From 2012 to 2019, Marvel movies were at their peak, but this didn't improve sales of comic books. Why?
It would seem that the popularity of movies like Avengers or Iron Man would increase comic book sales, but no. Comics are still dying.
On the other hand, if anime is successful, the manga from which the anime is based becomes more popular.
Why is that?

Adaptations improve the sales of the things they’re adapting. Even when they named a movie after a comic it was generally in name only and a terrible adaptation. So people had no reason to read the comics.

Add to this ANAD 2.0 making all the characters diverse and thus not reflecting what was on screen and it made little sense to follow comics about characters they didn’t know. They needed to do an ultimate line in 2015 not kill or replace all the iconic characters.

      Nice DC example homosexual

Because comics remain a niche industry sold through specialty stores, you have to go out of your way to get them, they've become overpriced for what you actually get, and the company wars manga shills do have a point about the comics trades which make it to book stores being structured in a way which makes "start at the beginning" frequently more difficult than it should be.

And all of that before we get on to the issues with the absolute state of the writing and art in a lot of modern big 2 books, or how sometimes they'll commit to making things more like the movies to try and attract new readers and sometimes they'll fight synergy and sabotage their own chances of success just because the writers or editors don't even like the characters the movies are pushing.

Also writers using the books as their political soapboxes or turning characters brown or gay, but everyone else was going to respond with that anyway.

What do you want? The fricking list? We will be here all night.
    >Industry baggage
Floppies, how comics are sold, entrenched strategies and tactics.
    >Creative baggage
How art and writting is handled, how industry has become entrenched in the creative side of things.
    >Cultural baggage
Perception of the whole fricking medium as being some dumb shit for kids.
    >Historical baggage
Industry crashed in the 90s, the CCA and all that shit.

The culture wars stuff is like the last piece of cake killing the obese man. People will mention how complicated it is, how expensive it is but then you have simple shit like, comics aren't cool and other things. You could also make the BEST COMIC EVER and still, because of issues like lack of comics media, marketing and journalism it will probably go no where. There are too many issues to name and most people will often name something that has been tried in the past 20 years and went no where to improving things. Heck print media is dying, the digital stuff isn't great either. Manga and other comic industries don't have the same problems or baggage.

Capeshit isn’t truly based on comics. It just cannibalises names, powers, and premises of stories and does its own thing.

Manga gets popular from the anime because it’s a 1:1 adaptation and if you wanna know what happens in the upcoming anime season you can read the manga.
If you want to know what happens in the upcoming Avengers Endgame goyslop you don’t have any comic to read so you don’t bother.

Comics crashed in the 90s, almost 3/4 of stores closed down. It DIED as a past time. Seriously, dead. At that exact same time:
    >videogames were becoming HUGE
    >the best mangas were being imported
    >geek shit was becoming big at the movies and on TV
So just as comics died, other shit took over and it never recovered. It has been on life support ever since. The truth is: people just don't like the medium that much.

because comic books are only sold in destination outlets

a destination outlet is a retailer that consumers choose to go to because it sells something they already know exists and have already decided they want

Comics are literally sold in supermarkets (grocery stores) where I live and no one bothers with them still. And they are anthologies too (like they put the bat title books together).

yeah it's too late to fix it by a couple of decades, and the content is so bad, so alien even compared to the movies, that the adults its aimed at who actually notice it won't buy it and the kids have fortnite passes to spend their b***hcoins on

but the reason people don't even think to look for them is because they disappeared from general retail 30 years ago, now they're a thing everybody kind of knows exists and nobody actually wants to spend the time to track down

destination outlets are like that, you don't go browse the plumbing store unless you've got plumbing shit to do

Both The Walking Dead and Invincible sold many, many comics thanks to their adaptations.

yeah cuz the adaptations are very similar to the comics, when iron man was in the MCU marvel had the galaxy brain idea of replace him with a black woman

They sold the same reason manga sells, it’s the same story and you can peek further ahead past where the show is. You can’t do this with almost any other western comic adaptation.

Why are people so triggered over legacy characters? That’s what’s killing the comic book industry. Incel man children who can’t shut the frick up about trivial things.
