matthew mcconaughey didnt know they were filming during this scene. reportedly, he misheard the armorer, thought he was handed a live weapon with actual bullets, sighed, and said "finally" and just opened fire into the film crew just behind the camera. its why the jarring scene of rust breaking character and just firing at nothing for seemingly no reason appears in the show.

IIRC so far, its mostly just been mild mentions of what the scientists were attempting, ghost esque appearances/whispers, and the idea that they have a cult like symbol
              thats about it
if you weren't looking for it/knew lovecraft tropes, it could just be a cult/disease angle (which it probably is)
probably for the better that its not overt

Yes but it's moronic so they're trying to salvage it by artificially connecting it to S1. Like the Cloverfield sequels/prequels, S4 is an entirely independend script with a tacked on TD branding, hence the subtitle.

well this is gonna be mostly unrelated, but i grew up wit a kid called catlips. well, cathlitsh or something, but you know how kids are. anyways, the actual connection here is they had a dog called "cheese", and one day, they went to go somewhere in the car, and backed over their dog, and turned cheese into cheese.
miserable, right. i know im supposed to feel bad, but

also they kept hamsters as pets, and they would put the hamsters into a plastic bucket when it was sunny with some chicken wire over it. they left for a day, put them outside and it stormed like crazy, and got home and found a bucket of drowned hamsters, with all of their legs and arms sticking out of the chicken wire n a final desperate attempt to survive

catlips, if your reading this i hope your doing fine dude. but bruh, your misadventures had me gigging for almost 2 decades now

Errol, Tuttles, and Ledoux are unironically connected to the "infernal plane" as Errol calls it, due to them ritually raping and sacrificing children in the name of the cosmic force they called "Yellow King". That in fact gives them additional virility (all of them are noticable taller, larger and stronger than overy other character in the show), as well as clairvoyant abillities.

Rust on the other hand is inadvertently tapped into the "infernal plane" (he calls it "psychosphere") as well, all the time, because he fried his brain with drugs and because of his proximity to the occult and esoteric practices. That's why every clairvoyant bad guy he encounters recognizes him as someone who is ESP sensitive as they are. Dewall says that Rust has a demon in him and that he can see it's corosive soul; Ledoux says he recognizers him from a dream; and Errol calls him a priest.

It's highly sybolic that the last showdown between the Rust/Marty and Errol, i.e. the battle between Light and Dark, was fought in the labyrinth, a powerful emblem in occult imagery.
