Miller thinking some b***h can oneup Max

Ok, except it wasn't cool or fun.

George Miller wanted to prove that “women can be just as badass as men”, and he failed spectacularly.

They are trying to replace Max with Furiosa for future movies. Everything must have a female lead now.

If you want people to take you seriously, you need to hide your obvious troll attempt a little harder

      >makes a mad max movie without max
      >movie fails spectacularly
I wonder what went so wrong

      >2015
A Mad Max movie without Mel?? Tom Hardy is a shit actor. Frick that. It’s gonna blow
      >2024
A Mad Max movie without Max? Frick Furiosa and Anya

You homosexuals never learn and now you’ve stooped so low to pretending to care about box office receipts when pre-2019 you were supposedly cinephiles and auteurs.

for someone who lived in a radioactive wasteland, getting picked by immortan would really be a rescue - which is why while they escaped, none of the wives hated him viscerally in fury road (also in furiosa couple of the scenes with the previous wives make it clear that they are desperate to give him a son etc.)

but furiosa grew up in hitech hippie commune, so to her, being forced into becoming a wife of this weird radioactive warlord mf as a child (in addiition to almost getting raped by his freaky moron son) would probably be enough of a reason to hate him; on top of all his mistreatment of his wives and the subjects

that being said, i do agree with your post - i think miller should have explored the roots of furiosas disdain for immortan deeper. While i liked the movie as her origin story, rewatching fury road its clear that her pain and story is not motivated by the childhood/young adulthood trauma as depicted in furiosa but by deep personnal hatred for immortan in particular.

They should have either left out Immortan entirely, or better - focus more on why Furiosa came to see him rather than an ally of necessity someone who she despises with all her being.

          >on top of all his mistreatment of his wives and the subjects
Did he really mistreat them that badly though? He gave the Half-lifes a religion that gives them hope and unironically made them the happiest people in that movie.
We aren't told how much water Joe really has in the Citadel besides the fact it gets pumped from underground, so him only giving out a little bit at a time could easily be the smart decision when you live in a desolate wasteland.
The wives not being happy despite probably having the best conditions a woman could hope for in a desolate post-apocalypse is peak woman moment.

The closest thing to mistreat is his apparent "three strikes" rule when it comes to giving healthy sons. Which, while cold, makes sense when you're trying to maintain one of the few remaining functioning societies.

I think the key here is frame of reference. For someone living in a maggot infested shithole getting picked by immortan would obviously be a salvation, but for someone who got abducted as a child, the gilded cage sexual-slavery prison would really probably feel like shit.

Hollywood needs to stop making prequels. It's a plague in movie making. Nobody cares about prequels. It's watching shit that you know will end a certain way. I felt the same way about star wars prequels when I was a kid. It's not enjoyable because in the end anakin becomes Darth Vader and we know what happens. Then they made rogue one when Disney bought it and Hollywood can't stop making prequels where they fill in the backstory of every franchise to the point where it ruins the originals and takes away any room for imagination.

Rogue One is the best SW movie.
Empire is only fun because of the on screen chemistry among the cast but the plot is moronic. Don't tell me making Vader related to Luke was a good idea or Yoda's training.
I had a lot of fun watching Return of the Jedi as a kid but imagine being a teenager and walking in to see fricking ewoks defeating the empire and the empire fleet just staring doing frick all after the second death star collapses.

The only thing I can bad mouth about Rogue One is that it contradicts the videogames and you could say that maybe it was the plans for the second death star which would make more sense for the games. Then again I don't really give a frick about SW. for me only A new Hope and Rogue One are good, you have to be mentally ill to devote your life to a franchise that only has a couple of good entries. I am proud to say I never watched the Disney+ shows and I knew Rogue One was a total fluke plus the script was written almost a decade before the Disney take over.

Watched this and thought "Hey this feels more CGI-like than Fury Road I wonder if I'm just misremembering things" and then later I went on Youtube and of course the original film looks 10 times better.

It really is shocking how bad it looked compared to Fury Road. It's like a mockbuster rip off.

That mute little girl who was gonna be one of my wives somehow escaped.

Also there is a mute "boy" here suddenly who is clearly that little girl.

Somehow this subterfuge is successful for yeats and nobody ever notices that the tiny mute boy is now a tiny woman.

It was mediocre at best and less than Fury Road and I didn't think that was as good as people were praising it for. Of course a sequel that is a prequel released 9 yeas later wasn't going to get people to get off their butts to go see it if it turned out just okay.

They literally have a voiceover that says, "and then there was a 40 day war for the wasteland" instead of showing us some of that war in what should have been the action climax of the film. And then she turns Thor's pecker into a tree. The end. What the frick was this shit?

It feels like they ran out of budget and had to just suddenly wrap up the whole thing. Also that entire last "chase" sequence where Furiosa goes after Dr. Demento went on like 20 minutes too long.

The only narrative purpose of the wasteland war is for Dementus's side to get their shit pushed in hard enough for it to be possible for Furiosa to hunt down the last of them solo.

I’ve seen the defense of this as “well it’s not important cause the movie’s about Furiosa” but you can’t just have that scary guy go “HISTORY HAS BEEN FILLED WITH WARS, AND NOW ITS OUR TURN” and then just not show it.

      Anonymous

Worst of all they skip showing you this war so that furiosa and demento can have a tedious discussion about the futility of revenge. That's the problem with this film, too much talking and explaining of things. Fury road worked better because max barely says anything and the world is just full of enigmatic and evocative images that don't get explained because they are cool and don't need to be.

George Miller is a B movie director that got lucky with Mad Max becoming a cult film. Fury road ended up being a hit because it took 20 years to make and he unloaded all his ideas into one action flick. Now like all the old boomer directors, he's unable to make a follow up that is creative. Nothing is good anymore.

Anons here are correct about marvel and star wars, but it makes me sad that they overwhelmingly are whining about a well made, fun, original film. Their minds have been poisoned by youtubers and the need to be contrarian.

Furiosa is fricking awesome. Great action set pieces and costumes/vehicles, no woke shit, and horror film levels of gore

He is telling her in between pistol whips that she can't hurt him in a way that matters. That message would be undercut if his face were deforming under her blows.

No point in this movie whatsoever. We didn't need to learn Furiosa or Immortan Joe backstory and you already know basically how it mostly ends because its a prequel to Fury Road. It does nothing to further the MM story and it's kinda just there.

To make a female led movie with two "crowd pleaser" actors and justify it to shareholders by calling it part of Mad Max
They couldnt just gender swap Mad Max bc he is the title character, so instead it became a prequel about the only female character they could force into the spot light
I heard it was alright, but any movie goers with pattern recognition were turned off by a bald headed AJT, and many didn't even clock Hemsworth bc of her prominent placement on posters.
Women don't want action movies, they want boiler plate introspective shit like the Barbie movie.
The only audience then left were men into action movies, and really only the subset with a really open mind (or a fetish for men with breasts) were compelled to go.

Should have been obvious, but I'm sure Hollywood believed that it wasnt that actors don't draw audiences anymore- it was that the audience bringers had changed.
