The drop in quality is so large and obvious i don't know why others cant see it
What do you think about new Futurama?
I will say though that there is a sliver of hope for a decent episode as some upcoming episodes have classic writers like David X. Cohen
A lot of classic writers coming up
Didn't zapp already get cancelled?
>Quids Game
Oh boy.
Sometimes their titles have nothing to do with what it's referencing. Jerrassic Bark has nothing to do with dinosaurs
>I know what you did next xmas
>Rage Agains the vaccine
>Zapp gets cancelled
>Quids game
Someone please tell me American Dad is still alive and running.
>zapp gets cancelled
oh boy
They already had made the squid game twice in the show
>"Rage Against The Vaccine"
>Written by pic related
>Also wrote for She-Hulk
>Is also an excusive story editor
>who hired this guy...
This dude seriously needs to get blacklisted at this point. It's like he exists just to make shows worse, its impressive how consistent his track record is.
Actual scene from the vaccine episode
they are on some shitty zone clone and the
professor accidently uses some face filter....
later on there show to uses giant q-tips to check for the virus
Parodying comical things should be illegal with a death sentence
zero chance this bit will be even half as humorous as the real thing
He's a diversity hire.
this guy definitely has a rich dad. there’s no other reason why he’s a writer.
>Metoo episode written by a woman
It´s gonna suck balls isn´t it.
this show has zombied out like the Simpsons. Why can't Groening retire already?
How about a show that was zombied from the start?
Again, there's just no fricking passion for the genre it's supposed to be parodying. The second it got to Steampunk land was proof that it wasn't gonna be that good
Steamland had some pretty kino background art. Felt bad for the artists.
The art was good, but someone's fricking steampunk wet dream does not belong anywhere near a fricking fantasy show. Some dickhead who hot glues cogs to top hats and calls themselves 'Lord Windingham Fallstaff III, Inventor, Explorer, and licensed dirigible pilot' had to shimmy that in there to please the other tea drinking dipshits on their dr. who message board. I kept watching the show because I wanted it to get better, but as soon as Steamland was introduced it became clear that there was absolutely no creative oversight whatsoever.
The backgrounds were well drawn/painted. I don't hate steampunk as a concept (even if the cosplay dorks are intolerably cringey), but it didn't belong in the show.
This shit is so zombified it becomes watcheable somehow. It's easier to watch something when you're not expecting anything from it.
I want Futurama to be Futurama but the jokes are fricking shit so far. So I ask, can they at least turn Futurama into Disenchantement? Actually give it some identity and put the characters into real adventures that won't reset right in the episode after? Because trying to land joke after joke and failing hard isn't fricking doing it for anybody.
> but the jokes are fricking shit so far
people in these threads are always talking about the "jokes"
but the plot and the characterisation and the emotion/atmosphere are all fricking crap aswell
I'd take an episode with no jokes if it was as good as classic futurama in all the other departments
oh I take that by granted. After all, everything pretty much resets in the episode after, you can't build any characterization like this. All I want is the skits to be funny but they can't do that even.
What else can they do? Can they make intelligent episodes like the backwards time machine or the evolution episode at least? So like, are we only getting one or two good episodes worth of this revival? What a fricking waste.
I think I rather fricking watch Solar Opposites, at least their cringe is mesmerizing, this shit is just boring.
"durr we're the Duune beetles" Fricking horrible. Are they not aware that they CAN BE SUBTLE with these references?
characterisation doesn't mean characters progressing other time
it just means the way the character is
they dont even act like themselves
It was a fantasy show written by sci fi nerds who didn't want to write a fantasy show, because they weren't fantasy nerds.
I watched however many seasons there were of this thing and can't remember anything that happened. It's the sort of show you put on when you've been so busy you don't want your brain troubled by something complicated or good. If you space out for a little while, it's fine, because you won't miss anything.
holy shit, my experience was identical to this, i don't remember any of the experience besides the mother being evil and the main girl being a lesbian
The mother being evil is like the cliffhanger ‘surprise’ for every season.
Is it good enough to be mocked with friends?
Nah it's just kind of a depressing watch with how much effort and ideas are wasted
It's more like 'unfinished handjob: the show'. Disenchantment tries desperately to have a serial narrative but it's pretty obvious from the getgo that they had no idea if they'd get more than one or two seasons. So they just string the audience with nonstop implications and no answers, coupled with plot threads that go nowhere and character arcs that mean nothing in the long run. Like I said, getting a handie but not getting to completion. And it's not even a good handie to boot.
god, this show is just "Wasted Potential, the animated series".
I don't know how people can fumble the ball so hard with such a widely anticipated property. I usually hate the dogpile on writers because in the context of animation, they get too much credit for what they do, but this is one of the situations where the writing team really really REALLY fricked up. It baffles me how someone can decide to try to do a continuous long arc show but have absolutely NO idea what that arc is or where it's going. It's pretty clear from season to season that there is no fricking plan because each installment just meanders aimlessly, then in the last fricking second tries to ramp up drama and intrigue to hopefully get people to stick around for another season. Then they resolve that plot IMMEDIATELY in the next episode and move on to aimless meandering again.
>Simpsons makes fun of Middle American culture during the 90's, predicting absurd conclusions to newfangled ideas
>Futurama makes fun of 1950's sci-fi concepts with 00's East Coast sensibilities
>Disenchantment makes fun of....stuff in a generic fantasy world
this show is aggressively mediocre. it’s not good or bad enough to be entertaining.
>Why can't Groening retire already?
come on, he basically has nothing to do with production and hasn't done for years
Last episode was awful, it had one good zoidberg joke but just that, otherwise unwatchable
i figured it was bad because i've seen zero discussion of the latest episode on here
New futurama new simpsons etc is shit, and i thought "man these new writers suck", but if you look at the writers a lot of the times its some classic writers from the golden age that wrote some of the best television ever.
And i have been wondering for years why this is.
Did something change in the way the writers are handled?
Probably a lack of good editors.
The problem is how classic Simpsons and Futurama episodes were written. Writers' meetings were basically a nerd frat party where everyone was drunk off the atmosphere and just saying anything they thought was funny. Then after a few days, the writer would compile everything funny that someone said into a 20 minute episode script.
Even if the old writers are involved, all it takes are a few new writers in the meetings to bring the atmosphere down. Or a corporate executive being more strict with them.
>basically a nerd frat party
Totally this. Pic related is from the Community writers room. No chance you'd be allowed bring in booze nowadays in case someone complained about it like they were pressured or someone acted obnoxious. Hell SNL back in the 80s used to have a coke room for writers.
That kinda explains why panty and stocking feel so "authentic"
I'm gonna hold my breathe until season 2 but yeah nips are piss hounds.
That's not Dan Harmon
You might need glasses anon
The "Harmon" in thr first pic looks nothing like the real Harmon you just posted
why do they need writers rooms of 20 people? Too many cooks spoils the soup. It would be better off with 4-5 writers max writing the entire series.
That's how you end up with 7 years between seasons. Venture Bros had 2 guys writing the whole thing and those hiatuses were fricking painful (but arguably worth it until it got the show cancelled)
Simpsons and Community claims that who wrote the draft of the script doesn't matter since all the guys write all of them but I just wonder how true it is. Maybe some writers have drafts that get changed less because I definitely find myself liking every episode that certain people write. Like say Swartzwelder for Simpsons or Ganz for Community. For the new Futurama so far that definitely isn't the case since we've seen some classic names already.
not surprised
it was stale as hell the previous renewal already, and this likely won't be the last
yeah in the previous renewal it was already bad
but its taken a huge leap into being even shitter
like all these eps are first drafts by first time writers or something
a lot of these episodes are written by people who have worked on the show since season one
The first episode wasn't even that bad but I refuse to watch the show even if it's pirated. The show should of never of been revived, it's like reviving a sickly old dog with asthma.
>The first episode wasn't even that bad
yes it was
get some IQ homie
He probably standed up and clapped at the "dun(g)e bettles" joke. If he got the joke at all, who knows, perhaps that's still too subtle for his mind.
sorry ill increase my IQ and then post better comments to impress you guys
It's odd the worms one was the straw that broke the back, they've all been about the same quality
Whatever, as long as the canon end to Futurama is no longer "everyone is doomed to abruptly trapped in an eternal time freeze purgatory every loop" I'm happy.
they fixed that in the very episode it happened
>The drop in quality is so large and obvious i don't know why others cant see it
M-I-C
K-E-Y
M-O-U-S-E
Local mousecucks will slurp up anything with The Brand. The shills use the same formula for the Simpsons, Futurama, Soi Wars, and basically anything else they've sucked up their distended butthole over the years.
>Wow, I love REBOOT!
>Sure, it's not as good as [period people liked] but it's better than [period people liked less]!
>Sure, it's not as good as [period people liked] but it's better than [period people liked less]!
I see the Sonic fanboy mentality has hit the mainstream.
Visually I don’t see the difference between the new episodes and the early ones.
Between the Hulu episodes and the CC episodes, you mean. The FOX era is WAY smoother and more expressive.
How long until Amy's metabolism catches up to her?
2>1>3>4
objectively correct confirmed by digits
Oh come on, it’s not THAT bad…
Guys chill they just got off the couch they clearly just need a warmer season to get their groove back.
Show should have stayed cancelled the first time, only had maybe 10 decent episodes to begin with
bait.
Haven't seen it. This makes me happy I got to experience the kino Futurama years when it came out in the early 2000s along with the 2nd revival of the series in the early 2010s. I can still remember the days when they show it on FOX & Adult Swim before being acquired by Comedy Central. Looks like Futurama just became nu-Futurama. Sad. Another zombified cashcow.
it's not anywhere near as bad as post first cancelation. how the west episode was the best so far.
Was actually written by Ken Keeler just under a pen name for some reason, so of course it was gonna be the best
I don’t know exactly what it is, but this season has felt very lifeless. I watched the latest episode on Monday and thought it dragged so much, and later that night I watched an early episode and consistently laughed. I don’t even have a nostalgic attachment to this show, it just feels worse.
>I will say though that there is a sliver of hope for a decent episode as some upcoming episodes have classic writers like David X. Cohen
Mate the first three episodes were written by veteran writers (Verrone, Horsted and Keeler respectively), even the fourth was not written by a complete novice to the series. I personally liked 1 and 3 but if you didn't like them I doubt you are going to like whatever episode Cohen has written just because it was written by him.
Lol why Fry got a hair dryer in his hand like that? Such a silly guy
>Stream episode: okay
>Amy episode: awful
>Crypto episode: okay
>Dune episode: good
Dune episode feels like FOX run would have done it, minus the joke density.
None have been great, but compare it to Solar Opposites season 4 where every episode is either good or great.
I found the Dune episode incredibly boring. Even the Amy episode at least had some good jokes and good character interactions, Dune was like "DUUUNG did you get the reference yet?" and was overall stupid with nothing happening.
I hate doing things that everyone is openly criticizing because then I'll be accused of contributing to the problem instead of having standards.
lol Apple Maps!
lol ivermectin!
lol bitcoin!
Who wrote this fricking shit? Isn't it supposed to be the year 3000?
>he thinks Apple won't still exist in 1000 years
I think an Apple Maps joke in 2023 is already dated.
>but they were much better at abstracting it pre-comedy-central reboot
That's my problem with it, exactly.
I don't think humanity is going to exist in a thousand years.
Futurama was always partially tied to commentary of contemporary events, but they were much better at abstracting it pre-comedy-central reboot. One of the reasons the CC era suffered in quality was because the episodes were a little too on-the-nose. I haven't watched any of hulu episodes yet, but it sounds like they aren't being coy at all with their references.
I just wish we'd get some heads that weren't from 1980-2010. Gimme some weird shit, like when giraffes enslaved humans.
Bitcoin is gonna exist forever baby! I'm gonna hodl for a thousand years!
Doing any requests!
Fry licking the hypnotoad like homer
Fry trying to strip and doing a bad job at it
Bean and Leela both naked and making out.
Leela displaying her big sexy feet but make it a realistic art style.
And use this color palette for her.
Bart slapping Amy’s ass and she’s in a Barts clothes expected his shirt is ripped and made into a bikini and has ripped Jean shorts.
Leela having eyes all over her and her body.

Scruffy
I've only watched the first episode but remember when Lela said "what the hell happened in that episode". That phrase alone sums up this revival and the streaming model in general.
There’s new Futurama?
I missed the last few OC, can someone repost ?
