He's literally me
its william fridekin with wienerney accent instead of israelitecago accent
Starship troopers threads
It would have turned bad if they tried to milk the premise. Just be happy with how much gold it produced
who says it's not being milked?
The books are good though
First person to tell him gets a knuckle sandwich.
it got one, man to man with dean learner.
the first time I've ever seen someone else mention that excellent show
I've only seen the Garth episode, was worth it.
The final episode was hysterical
Women like you are the reason the show didn't get renowed in the first place!
like a candle in the wind. UNRELIABLE
She's got a face like the proverbial! I think it's her time.
It was called Possum.
Man to Man with Dean Learner
where's that flippin chicken
WHERE'S HIS FLIPPIN CHICKEN
There's 2 books if there's any consolation. They're still funny but I feel the show definitely had more layers. I've read the first story in terrortome and the gimmick of being in one of Garth's shit stories gets a bit exhausting without all the behind the scene context from the main show
the line
>she was like a candle in the wind, unreliable
has been living in my head rent free for 20 years now
Sometimes, dead is better.
I love how everything related to proper filmmaking is purposefully shit. great attention to detail.
>I know writers who use subtext and they're all cowards
It exists perfectly as its own thing. Garth Maranghi as a character still exists. He features in 2 episodes of Man To Man With Dean Learner and Matthew Holness does liveshows as the character, still. Also there's a book he wrote as Garth.
Thing is, what could they do to expand upon the Darkplace concept? You can only parody 80's TV for so long before running it to the ground. Just look at Alan Partridge. After I'm Alan Partridge the whole gimick of a washed-up tone deaf TV presenter became stagnant.
An Office-esque mockumentary following Garth trying to keep up with modern publishing and trying to stay relevant could be funny, especially if he uses social media like other schizo authors like Fatrick Tomlison or Stephen King but it wouldn't reach the same heights as Darkplace.
>After I'm Alan Partridge the whole gimick of a washed-up tone deaf TV presenter became stagnant.
The books and the movie prove you wrong.
I was unaware of any Alan Partridge books. What ones are the best?
Just watch youtube compilations of Richard Madeley
>I had a cat once. I dropped a sofa on it. It was a write off, so I stood on its head.
This is by far one of the funniest bits
>tfw when you understand
>13 and up
If her age is off the clock.
look the other way, it's not a popular opinion
This used to come on on adult swim at night back in the day right? If so I remember it being kinda boring and stupid. I'll have to watch it again and see how it is sense you guys seem to say its good.
Ok just check it out, yeah I remember this on adult swim at night. This show is incredibly stupid and boring. How do you guys actually like this nonsense?
watch a bunch of bad movies, like ineptly produced movies like Samurai Cop, and pay attention to what's wrong with them (bad ADR, bad shot framing, bad acting, etc) - then watch this show and you'll understand what they're parodying and it's amazingly funny
Frick off shit sense of humor zero attentionspan broccoli headed homosexual.
You’re very dumb for trusting us
don’t bother it’s wacky le random reddit shit.
Rich Oxford graduates being le ironic and mocking American paperback writers...simply intoxicating, dahling!
but there is a followup
the directors commentary is in character and effectively a sequel
>That moment where they all start dogpiling Garth and by the end of it, the entire commentary falls apart
Kino
>everyone breaking at the ethnic cleansing gag
kino
I must watch this
Here you go man.
Watch it alongside the show, it's basically another season since the jokes are just as good
Thank you!
can add to this the full length interview segments.
It's right here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZFaahUyRCrE
>makeup for black women called Ethnic Cleansing
>There's PC and there's just being offensive
I'm dead
you guys are the fricking best, I had no idea
the line that's always stuck in my head:
>I just graduated from Harvard College Yale. I aced every semester and I got an A.
This probably had one of the best DVD's of all time honestly. On top of the commentaries and the character interviews (which is already 3 hours) it had these extras
and a full version of one track lover
as well as more bonus shit. God I wish people tried this hard for DVD's now
Is that music cue on the title cards from Twin Peaks?
yeah I'd recognize that anywhere
>The sound to this footage has been lost
jesus, unbearably kino
but he's not jesus, he's come to accept that now.
Dean Learner's rap killed me hahah wasn't expecting that
Are there torrents of the dvds with the commentary?
never looked, we all have the dvd.
Yeah, just found one of a public tracker aggregate site.
Got all the extras, so I assume it has the DVD commentary too.
Why won't she love me like Daglass?
You and him...were buddies...weren't you?
Only a consummate professional can deliver a line like that properly.
you're an actor when you're a publisher
This and (the first season of) Danger Five are just perfect.
Second season of Danger 5 is pretty good, just slightly different and set in the 1980s. People misunderstood that Holly was purposely obnoxious and supposed to be a hate sink. They even treat her as such in the show.
JOHNNY HITLER?!
Please never follow it up. It's 6 episodes are perfect
SHE'S SMOOTH
LIKE ICE
COLD TO THE TOUCH
AND ISN'T VERY NICE
PLUS ACTOR
Back in the day people knew when to stop.
Bongs are famous for letting shows end when people still want more.
It's a good practice t b h, just look at the state the US Office ended up in.
The British are good at not milking an idea to death. Just look at amerimutt shows and see what happens when you don’t have that self-control.
It was a pretty limited concept.
I look like this and do these things.
MOOOVE ASOIDE
thats the mother rick!
>Dean just shooting in a completely random direction at a different time of day in a different shot while also being in a different location
Thats the good shit right there, it takes talent to be convincingly shit
How come Matthew Holness did not have a more successful career?
It’s pretty common for UK shows to have like ten episodes max and that’s it
