he's a bumbling native the hero saves and who serves as his servant thereafter, it's a pretty common adventure tales tropes about brave white explores in darky lands, and the guy who voices him is black and uses Jamaican sounding pidgin English... this has all been noted when it came out, long before the current bluehair woke plague, so don't chud out about it
ST is just 1930's style pulp adventure transposed to space opera and carries the setting's cultural baggage, but the reason the prequel suck has little to do it, it's fine~

it's millennial homosexuals like you who write dissertations against his amusing and obvious observations about George's mega opus.

          Anonymous

No, this is completely laughable historical revisionism.

GenX-ers and older millennials always hated the prequels and it was practically custom to shit on them years before RLM ever even wrote the first Plinkett review. The Plinkett reviews were, if anything, late to the party in terms of prequel hate.

Younger millennials and zoomers were more positively disposed to the prequels because they grew up with them. Like the generations before them, they compared the movies that they grew up with favorably to the new ones, which is why they proceeded to b***h about the new Star Wars movies in exactly the same way that their predecessors b***hed about the prequels. RLM had nothing to do with any of this besides simply being part of the large GenX crowd that hated the prequels.

This is the vicious cycle of Star Wars. In 20 or so years you will see kids who grew up watching the sequels claim that they actually weren't bad in just the same way as prequel apologists today do.

            Anonymous

Plinkett put what we already felt into words.

I will say though, I don't know if the cycle will continue. As shit as the Prequels were, they didn't kill interest in Star Wars related media. The Sequels did.

                Anonymous

Not in the numbers the Prequels have. Too many of the characters are just fricking losers. Even the old characters are losers now. Prequels had the bad ending but at least the characters you liked fought valiantly.

And look at the outside media. Prequels had a ton of games. How many games do the new movies have? How many not just tacked onto existing games? It's fricking Star Wars, you can shit out games about any of it and be good.

That's what i think too, the worst sin the Sequels did was not even trying to be cool, i can only think of one moment it was cool and its the ship kamikaze attack, don't care about all the lore reasons why it shouldn't work, it looked cool
Besides that what else is there? That one Stormtrooper that Finn fought? The lightsaber with laser crossguard?

                Anonymous

I doubt it. As bad as the prequels were at least they had a ton of great spinoff content at the time. Disney has done nothing but try to stretch out the time period between the OT and the sequels and most of the nostalgia bait has been OT or prequel crap, it's like they're afraid of doing anything with the sequels.

              Anonymous

Agreed. People went into the prequels expecting and hoping for excellence. They got disappointed badly. People went into the sequels with low expectations but still got let down harder. Big difference.

            Anonymous

People only remember episodes 1&2 for the handful of good moments they had and the resulting memes. The only one looked back on now with any real fondness is RotS. Say what you will about the prequels but they were actually made by a human being who knew what they wanted to make. The sequel trilogy will never be held in high regard by anyone because they're entirely devoid of any substance. Ffs people are already forgetting them.

The Last Jedi is about how traditions and myths are important, but they require honest interrogation; they shouldn't be used as a crutch so you never have to grow, but instead should be used as a foundation to look towards the future and build something new, because time marches ever onward and we are only what we grow beyond.
Rian Johnson cleverly makes his theme of "people you look up to will never live up to the vision of them you've idealized, but they can still do good in spite of their flaws". It's a great message for children and parents. Simultaneously telling them to respect what came before but also letting go of the idealized past as that is vanity.

Luke being a disappointment to audiences was the point but of course you homosexuals were too stupid to grasp it. You need the story to explicitly tell you "Anakin is choosing now because Sisious said you must choose". Meanwhile, TLJ can be enjoyed on the surface level as well as appreciating the subtext beneath it. Everything from Luke's astral projection to Smoke being discarded like garbage all near explicitly tell you the theme and you still think it's "muh women and israelites are trying to destroy my childhood!"

The prequels are bad but the sequels are worse. There are good moments in the prequels and they inspired some of the best content Star Wars ever had, the sequels are just cologuos of shit that had little to no lasting effects.
