He's never going to finish because everyone keeps paying him money to do other things. Interviews, appearances, consultation, and, worst of all, WRITING for more fricking shows.

The one thing he is truly guilty of is thinking that people care about the spinoff shows and that he has to put effort into them. No one gives a frick about House of the Dragon. No one. Anyone who thinks they do is delusional. If a remade seasons 6, 7, 8 were announced and HOD cancelled, no one would notice HOD even missing. HOD is just a placeholder for more GOT, and he doesn't seem to realize that. Likewise, people will buy the shit out of the next HOD book, but it doesn't mean anyone gives a shit about it, it's just a stand-in for WoW.

Yes, but he's always had his other hobbies, and they took far less time away than say... flying to a different country to consult for a show then spending months writing the outline and doing press tours. For instance, the dude's been obsessed with football since like the 70's and been doing fantasy football for decades, yet in those decades preceding WoW, he wrote more per MONTH than he has per YEAR for WoW.

The reality is he has no motivation to write anymore. Back when he wrote the original 3 books he was poor. At best he was just a relatively normal guy living on a middle income salary. His books were successful but not overly so. Then they blew up. Now he is rich and loaded as frick and he is at an age where hep robably doesn't want to work anymore. He can spent 30 more years just sitting on his ass and he'll still be rich. So what motivation would he even have of writing except maybe cement his legacy? But the problem is he has always been a gluttonous fool on excess trip, even before he became rich. But at least back then he was forced to work like a normal person. You can see his book trajectory - the first 3 books released very fast, the rest took longer and longer.

Yeah, honestly this. Plus, the mediums are not the same.
      >The book is the book, the film is the film.
It’s only moronic when they use it as an excuse to change something. Like ”the queen of england is actually a drag queen!” or “This book about a straight white couple was never for straight white people, hun.” If they have to write something to make sense on screen, that’s another matter. A book can paint a picture, but also has a narrator, you can just say what you want the reader to think, express a characters inner thoughts, fears, emotions, but without this voice, you have to write it into a scene in some way, or do a flashback in the middle of a scene, so it won’t always translate perfectly 1:1. Anyways, he should have retained more rights if he gave a shit about his adaption, or maybe worked on it with them. Sitting back and being happy when all goes well, then crying like a b***h when it doesn’t is pure fat homosexualry.

She's absolutely right. Making the Velaryons black fundamentally changes Valyrians and by association Targaryens. How does an incestuous band of intermarrying, blood obsessed dragon lords maintain strict separation of distinct sub races? It's not as though Corlys is a one off character. House of the Dragon made the entire House black. Why is the actor who played Jaehaerys "white" when his mother was "black"? Aegon the conquer's mother was also Velaryon. This era of Targs is arguably more Velaryon than Targaryen. Zero coherence or forethought was put into this decision.

It works because in the book Rhaenys is a black haired Targaryen with Baratheon blood. The whole thing is still doubtful enough to cast suspicion, but not completely impossible that you can be 100% sure about. In the show no way can anyone even for a second believe that these are Laenor's children.

                Anonymous

that was their thinly veiled excuse, even though the hair color and facial features were unrelated. she had black hair, but that’s not mousy brown, and her eyes certainly weren’t brown. the hair wasn’t the only reason it was super obvious. So no, still not ambiguous.

                Anonymous

That's not how genetics work. Just because you have certain features doesn't mean your kid will otherwise it'd be easy to make a 10/10 Aryan ubermensch by pairing hot people together. As I said, it's suspicious enough but not impossible. In the show it's impossible because the kids are not even 1% black. It's not even a matter of even looking like Laenor facially speaking.

                Anonymous

                >That's not how genetics work.
nothing in asoiaf is how genetics work, so that’s irrelevant.
and I never said kids would have the exact same. I said they wouldn’t have features that come from no side entirely. last non targ ancestor (aside from Jocelyn) would be Alyssa Velaryon’s mother. but the only indication of her looks was in Alysanne being honey blonde rather than silvergold, which is still not what the boys are. and it certainly wouldn’t be 3 all in a row with the same coloration.
They’re not going to have noses, eye colors, or skin tones that match none of their recent ancestors.
For that matter, grrm never showed such an output occurring from Targ hair + non Targ hair. it’s either totally non-Targ hair (Rhaenys, Daeron 2’s kids, aegon 4’s bastards), full Targ hair, or weird patchwork combination.
still not ambiguous. the Rhaenys claim was part of the farce to show badly they did at trying to cover it up.

This was such a grating and needless change in the show (along with others like Rhaenys girlboss moment). What purpose does it serve making Corlys a nig? Not only does it completely frick up the story and lore, but also Black folk are not present at all in GOT. Did they go extinct or something? Suddenly Westeros is 56% white in HOTD while apparently non-whites all got holocausted in Robert's Rebellion or something.

If they wanted their beloved diversity or whatever, just make some Summer Islander pirate or something. It'll still be annoying, but at least it wouldn't make you scratch your head on how stupid it is.

He doesn’t want to finish the books because deep down he knows the majority of his readers are ungrateful pieces of shit that take everything for granted and treat everything they are given like fast food to gorge themselves on.

Also, the books thrive on mystery, and it having no clear ending or resolution isn’t exactly out of theme. Tough shit.

lol what a hypocritical piece of shit
when Game of Thrones was a thing, he would say
    >"How many children did Scarlett O'Hara have? Three, in the novel. One, in the movie. None, in real life: she was a fictional character, she never existed. The show is the show, the books are the books; two different tellings of the same story." - George R. R. Martin

and now he says that's bullshit?

To be fair to George, D&D were fricking with the books long before they ran out of source material to adapt.

How a writer of an adaptation apporoaches the source makes a world of difference.
George has been moderately lucky at the least. Take Andrej Sapkowski for instance: he had a shitty deal with CD Projekt and the Netflix adaptation is a frick you and all your novels kind of adaptation.

        >Take Andrej Sapkowski for instance
he shouldn't have given the rights to people who have not read the books and only knew about it from the games in the first place. Plus it was israeliteflix so there was never any chance of it being good regardless of the people involved

There is a difference between adapting and abridging a book to television/film for brevity's sake and a failed writer changing the source material for their own vanity.

Agreed. The delusion of these creators knows no bounds. From Stan Lee to Jane Austen, they arrogantly believe they can enhance timeless literary works. Yet, their adaptations consistently fall short, disrespecting the original material. It's a pattern of arrogance and incompetence that undermines the integrity of literature in cinema.

I wonder who he's talking about

      Anonymous

It is pretty obvious he is talking about HotD. It is going to start airing soon, so George probably just got to watch it early and maybe talked with the writers around last week.

They probably did something silly that fricks with the themes/foreshadowing, like Yas Queen-ing some characters, bringing the Norfmen early/more prominently for Nostalgia or having a character die earlier for shock value, and when Gurm asked why they did that, they probably just told him "Oh, it is needed to make the story better for streaming!" and Gurm is pissy about it.

I bet it is probably one of the two later things, since Gurm probably wouldnt mind more Yaas Queen moments. So expect something like the Starks immediately joining the fray and being fully the main force of the Blacks instead of basically just sending four hundred elderly soldiers that wouldnt have made it past winter anyway. Or maybe they are going to have Aemond die fighting Rhaenys or Rhaenys just defecting the war and fleeing.

        Anonymous

They already ruined the show with Rhaenys' blowing up the sept, Daemon killing his wife with a rock, Black Velaryons, and letting Laenor live.

More likely he’s upset they cut nettles and gave sheepstealer to rhaena. They are also making Daemon more evil and he’s George’s favourite character.

I wonder if George is still writing that tie-in comic for Paul W.S. Anderson's adaptation of his short story In the Lost Lands. I wonder if he resents the changes Paul has made, or whether he accepts them as part of adapting short stories that have a twist so obvious it's on par with Owen's murder mystery in Throw Momma from the Train.
