Why would Lebowski hire those guys to organise a kidnapping? On what pretense would he be telling them he'd be giving them a million dollars which would be split? Why would he need to if he had money? What would he stand to gain? They just didn't know he wasn't actually rich, knew Bunny was out of town and took a chance to get a million dollars from him before she got back.
