By making it forgettable. All The Money in the World, The Last Duel, and even Napoleon are nothing compared to Alien, Prometheus and Blade Runner.

I laughed so hard when he said this. It’s like something a 12 year old would say.

Unironically when did he lose it? It's been so long since he's done something above average that senile Ridley has become the norm at this point

            He's a glorified cameraman/vfx artist, he's not a screenwriter
The moment the quality of Hollywood scripts dropped, so did his movies.

It'll be a new, self insert gladiator and while he's fighting in the arena it'll cut to a scene of him in a Roman orgy.

They’ll probably retcon the first one and reveal Lucius is actually Maximus’s son or something stupid. Probably why they recasted the actor with someone who resembles Russel Crowe

Ridley has produced many kinos. Paul Mescal is kino. The first film is kino. I'm hoping this film is kino.

    >He asked an assistant for another espresso. He’d been busy. After finishing the extended cut of “Napoleon,” he started storyboarding the Western; he showed me pages of Ridleygrams, featuring a snowy fight scene. With sag-aftra and the studios back in negotiations, he was preparing to pick up “Gladiator 2,” which stars Paul Mescal, the moment the strike was resolved. “I could shoot on Monday,” he said. (The talks fell apart a week later.) In the meantime, he’d been polishing the ninety minutes he had, including a scene in which the hero fights a pack of baboons; he’d been haunted, he said, by a video of baboons attacking tourists in Johannesburg: “Baboons are carnivores. Can you hang from that roof for two hours by your left leg? No! A baboon can.”

He might die while making it, we may end up with another "AI: Artificial Intelligence" situation where another big name director has to come in and take up the slack

Gladiator fricking sucks after the prelude, so ironically the entire time Maximus is a gladiator. I rolled my eyes at the prospect of a sequel, but the setup of it being about a destitute Lucius presumably on a hero's journey following in his idol/father figure's steps seems like a solid foundation. Denzel Washington will certainly elevate it. Only thing that might kill it is a Russell Crowe force ghost.
    >tl;dr
Looking forward to it, but have zero expectations and will ignore all pre-release material, including trailers.

I hope he directs Sicario 4 or some equivalent with Taylor Sheridan before he dies.

He's singlehandedly killing off whatever remains of the historical epic genre.
    Wish he'd croak already
