People started investigating further and discovered a private mailing list in which dozens of "independent game journalists" were colluding together to push narratives in tandem. That's when the shit really hit the fan, because they were caught red-handed. Then, almost immediately, a bunch of TV news networks started jumping in and pushing the same narrative, that "gamers are a bunch of sexist racist misogynists," which led people to learn that even big, mainstream media was a part of this scandal. The israelites in the media even made tv episodes in shows at the time dedicated to pushing their lie that gamers were sexist, racist, etc. There has been a war on wikipedia to censor the facts about the case as well, and last I checked, the wikipedia article also forwarded the lies of the media.
