Mia was better as a deadite than the mother in Rise, and better as a protagonist than the protagonist in Rise tbh. 2013 in general didn't hold back at all with how the characters got messed up, and I especially liked how cruel the deadites were with their dialogue, mutilating themselves to scare people, etc. Mia got the worst of it all, which made it rewarding when she became the last survivor in the end.

It wouldn't be Evil Dead if someone doesn't actually stand up for themselves and kill the demons in a gruesome manner, the suffering they endure is meant to desensitize and prepare them for the violence they are about to be immersed in, from victim to hero. All the movies except Army of Darkness follow this pattern.

I haven't watched it since it ran theaters, but I think I thought it downplayed the deadites resilience compared to the original, and I seem to recall it being more strictly linked to a christian hell rather than an ancient evil that might have just informed christianity among other beliefs. Haven't seen the new one.

One thing I didn't like and probably my least favourite part of the movie was how the Deadites didn't mock their victims enough other than repeating dialogue lines from previous movies like when they all started chanting dead by dawn. The closest to this was when the mother mocked Mia for being a whore who couldn't keep her legs shut and calling her unborn child a bastard. The deadites using their current victims to mock their intended ones is part of what makes the series, more of that would've been better. Overall I'd say Rise was a good horror movie on its own but not a very good Evil Dead movie.
>most of the movie is terrible character interraction >none of the gore is impactful >fodder characters are wasted on a minute scene where two of the characters die in throw away deaths and a third is killed off screen >never any tension or stakes or investment >deadite dialogue is incredibly lame >pacing is terrible
If you think this movie is good you should just stop sharing your opinions
>cabin from midsommar >blood elevator from the shining >creature design stolen from the thing at the end >recycled lines and one liners from previous evil dead movies
This movie was le epic member berry, total hack job
Honestly this movie makes the writer's strike all the more absurd, because it is a new low in writing.
This gore was lame, nothing came close to the 2013 movie, which should be the new standard
2013 had its issues, as a stand alone horror it was pretty good, especially for a generic 2013 horror. It still has nothing on the originals. Way better than Rise though.
Literally the opposite, the limitations of the makeup, prosthetics and effects give the originals a heightened feel and have actually made them timeless.
Evil Dead is a midling horror movie.
Rise is a terrible movie full stop. It's just not good. I've seen people insist it's good but they never say why nor do they have anything to say to the criticisms.

Not everybody looks at movies the way you do.
Critics are the worst kinds of people.
Not every piece of art needs criticism you ape.
And no one needs to justify why they enjoy something.

So then don't say it's good, say you enjoyed it so that everyone knows you have shit taste and they don't have to go see this pile of shit. >Critics are the worst kinds of people
Having taste doesn't make someone a critic, thinking that everyone should just chow down on goyslop and not complain is npc tier thinking.
The movie is objectively bad.

I see. So you're not actually talking about the movie one way or the other
>Everything looks goofy
In my opinion that is part of what creates unsettling visuals, kind of like claymation. >the plot is incoherent
The plot is incredibly straightforward I don't get what you mean.
Regardless it is still a masterfully filmed and directed unique movie with a distinct style and setting.
I see. So you're not actually talking about the movie one way or the other
The latest one looked the worst. Like every lottery funded British genre film of the last 15 years. They love that torquoise and orange look on cheap sets. Also the second movie doesn't look cheap. Pretty good DP.
Evil Dead is a series that work both if you cake the goofy route and the super serious route, so it's hard to fuck up, that being said this movie was just by the numbers. The two main sisters did a great job though
Watched it last night. Worst of the series, but still a decently entertaining watch. Main problem was the kids. The bizarre chud thing was just...unaddressed and distracting to see on screen. The tomboy was a qt, but incredibly bad at performing as a deadite. Almost don't think they needed the Aunt character. Small scale and low budget were a bit dissapointing since even some episodes of Ash Vs ED looked better. Really liked the tone of the opening. The title shot was genuinely unsettling. The cheap Britcuck photography bothers me a lot though. I was also hoping it would be a bit more Demonish - the whole block, not just one floor.
chud bothered me too. They're a poor family which mean they wouldn't have the money to pay for her transition. It's just unrealistically. Unless she was meant to be a normal boy, which c'mon now. Get real.
chud bothered me too. They're a poor family which mean they wouldn't have the money to pay for her transition. It's just unrealistically. Unless she was meant to be a normal boy, which c'mon now. Get real.
Lots of boys look like that. They tend to get bullied, but they exist. I didn't even know when I saw it.
It was a bit weird because it doesn't pass at all, but I couldn't tell if it was just meant to be a boy in universe. Distracting. I thought the filler neighbours should have had a bit more character too.
>Bitchy feminist tattoo artist single mom
Dies >Her FtM pooner chud "son"
Dies >Her dykeish daughter who goes to labor day protests to cry about global warming
Dies >Her only daughter young enough to still be innocent and kind
Lives and gets a better mother >Penitent pregnant woman who chooses life
Lives >Her unborn child
Lives and is recognized by the demon to have a soul
I get where you're coming from but this movie kind of blue balls that anyway. The characters aren't even fun to dislike and when they die you're still not rid of them, plus nobody has a fun death. It robs you of even the catharsis of seeing the characters you don't like suffer.
Similar thing with the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie, all of the lefties die horribly and the gun toting rural White guy is the only one brave and capable enough to fight off Leatherface (despite jobbing). Even the end of the movie has the anti-gun tomboy pick up the White guy's shotgun to fight off Leatherface. I wonder if some modern horror movie directors use their films as a way to blow off steam by having a bunch of obnoxious leftists and diversity hires die in horrific ways while killing tow birds with one stone by hitting diversity quota checklists in doing so.
>Evil zombie goes coo coo >NPC stands still with both arms hanging with a not very believable face of concern >Bad things happen >NPC still standing still until it's xer turn to get fucked
Terrible movie.
rise felt really pg13 at times with how much it held back on the gore and action
there's so many scenes of the mom just standing there being creepy instead of attacking or trying to rip people apart, a lot of the hallway carnage was off screen
i really liked how the film looked and it had some nice moments but the lack of danger in a lot of scenes made me not enjoy it as much as 2013 or even the originals
too many scenes of demon's throwing people or doing little things instead of just full on ripping people apart or actually being scary
instead of a rollercoaster the movie was like the little dragon ride at the town fair that just circles over little hills over and over
I wish the newer Evil Dead movies had something as outrageous as this in it. I was thinking when they said the woman was pregnant in Rise that maybe her baby would get possessed while it was still in her womb or something.
Where?
at your local movie theater fuck face. See this with an audience, if you're not a pussy.
>See this with an audience, if you're not a pussy.
What is that even supposed to mean
It has to be bait at this point, I've seen more than handful of people talk favourably about this absolutely dogshit movie.
Not OP but I am being unironic. It's a great moobie.
How?
She was hot af I'll give you that
she's so pretty...
What are you implying?
She has such an odd facial structure, I shouldn't find her hot but I do, she's stunning
She's really funny too~
>odd facial structure
Average Scandi woman.
She's an Australian mutt I think
>Australian
Not a race. She's obviously genetically Norwegian or something.
She's a model, models often look a bit weird
"I shouldn't find her hot"
Dude, she is literally a runway model. You're undoubtedly a fat neckbeard.
I'll let your eyes tell you
Too scared to sexo / sexo

This gore was lame, nothing came close to the 2013 movie, which should be the new standard
This was clearly inferior to the 2013 movie and I was massively disappointed. Still a decent flick.
No, Rise is better. Has better atmosphere. 2013 is tryhard and unfunny. No charm.
damn I will fuck her
This movie actually felt like an Evil Dead movie, the 2013 one did not.

the originals aged like absolute dogshit
Not if you have taste. Raimi goofiness is pure SOVL
Literally the opposite, the limitations of the makeup, prosthetics and effects give the originals a heightened feel and have actually made them timeless.
The originals are /b/ horror movies.
These new ones are modern horror movies.
Both Evil Dead & Rise are great horror movies.
Evil Dead is a midling horror movie.
Rise is a terrible movie full stop. It's just not good. I've seen people insist it's good but they never say why nor do they have anything to say to the criticisms.

Not really. Everything looks goofy, the plot is incoherent, with water that was dyed red for blood.
No idea what you're trying to say.
No wonder you liked ED 2013. The most boring horror movie in history.
Not sure if b8. Care to explain?
Just watched the first two. I had to assume people like them because they're ironic. They look like they were made in the 60s with no budget.
The latest one looked the worst. Like every lottery funded British genre film of the last 15 years. They love that torquoise and orange look on cheap sets. Also the second movie doesn't look cheap. Pretty good DP.
Not to forget single mothers and pregnancy, elements that have no place in an evil dead movie.
Evil Dead is a series that work both if you cake the goofy route and the super serious route, so it's hard to fuck up, that being said this movie was just by the numbers. The two main sisters did a great job though
This is all you need to know about the new one
So what James Cameron produced terminator deep fake, doesn't mean it's good
what? no it isn't. of course they'd fund their own attempted launch at having Evil Dead make money for them without them having to do any work.
Also, isn't it Sam that decided to not release any non-George-Lucas'd version of the original on bluray, so why would I trust him?
pic unrelated?

Wish I didn't knew either, probably wouldn't have taken me out of the movie as much

This is as retarded as thinking a movie is good because they forced diversity into it.
A movie agreeing with you doesn't make it kino.
It's a horror movie, it just has to be fun. And these people dying is fun.
I get where you're coming from but this movie kind of blue balls that anyway. The characters aren't even fun to dislike and when they die you're still not rid of them, plus nobody has a fun death. It robs you of even the catharsis of seeing the characters you don't like suffer.
It must be hard being white. To only see people as different than you.
You guys are sad, man.
Nah you just have to pretend it's good to play them at their own game.
Stay mad cupcake.
You got to hand it too them. I think know the son was supposed to be trans till I stumbled on somebody bitching about it online.

>b-but I-
You didn't watch the movie.
>good
the 2013 remake was better.
Has to be a shill thread because this movie was shit. It was saved financially because all the best bits were in the trailer.
This was the rare film I gave generously 15 minutes. 10 of those minutes were at the stove.
>look at me I didn’t watch the movie
No one cares retard
>Evil zombie goes coo coo
>NPC stands still with both arms hanging with a not very believable face of concern
>Bad things happen
>NPC still standing still until it's xer turn to get fucked
Terrible movie.
I thought it was weird they did "discover mom, get crawl attacked bit" twice and back to back.
>2>1>3>Remake>Rise
Can't rank the show because quality varies wildly.
This is objectively all correct though the gap between 3 and remake is a power gap and the game between remake and rise is huge.
rise felt really pg13 at times with how much it held back on the gore and action

I wish the newer Evil Dead movies had something as outrageous as this in it. I was thinking when they said the woman was pregnant in Rise that maybe her baby would get possessed while it was still in her womb or something.
It would be so silly if her and Jane Levy got into a kissfight haha
It would be very sloppy.
IMAGINE...
She's so adorable. She's always sharing fanart and responding to fans on social media, she's like the cutest I swear
True actually, her tweets are comfy.
cute gals
Left ones pussy must be the hairiest.
Left is hairy, middle has a cute red soul patch and right is bald
no tattoos, no piercings, not fat, no crazy colored hair, really a sight to behold.
they really do look like sisters, good casting
oh my god she's taller than me
>Kissfight
Is that a thing? I've never heard or seen that.
nah it was mid af vlud main girl was wildin tho
