Sounds like they are retconning the Sequels. Now:

        - Luke knew of and helped hide Rey
        - Luke’s Jedi Order was pretty large and had multiple generations of classes and included big names from Legends (Horn)
        - Ben is a Jedi Knight who was left in charge while Luke went on New Republic missions
-Luke and Ben are actually really close
-Ochi comes out of the closet

Correct. They need to fix Luke. As goes Luke so goes Star Wars. Disney needs to restore most of his achievements and power or nobody will come back for post ST content. As it is, Disney Wars is struggling to keep their much smaller fanbase in line. They won’t survive like this unless they change the ST lore to make better sense

Right. Corran Horn needs to be side by side with Grand Master Luke on missions, in essence be his Lancelot to Luke’s own King Arthur. Maybe after many years they have a falling out (look up what happened with Lancelot and Arthur) and Horn leaves the order to travel the unknown territories

Rey needs to have had a lot more training prior to the Sequel Trilogy- otherwise her skills don’t make a lot of sense (and makes everyone hate Rey). So whether Luke taught her when she was young and then somehow used the force to bury her memories until she needed them (like in TFA) or Rey was trained by the Sith Eternal as a child, something needs to be done to fix that 2 hour force mastery shit. It’s embarrassing and ruins the saga.

Also, Rey needs a much better relationship to Luke to justify taking his surname. So that needs to be fixed too. Because right now it’s a punchline

        Anonymous

You can't save Rey's character with the help of training and shit. She is Palpatine, she will be forever, she can only enter the Skywalker family through Kylo - the last Skywalker and Vader's grandson - and nothing else.

The Force itself bound the two. They are a dyad that is "stronger than life" and this is canon. After Kylo's disappearance, Rey's force sensitivity should also go away. Or she should be "pulled" to where Kylo is.

          Anonymous

The Palpatines are only canonically half as powerful as the Skywalkers. So that doesn’t explain her skill. She needs training somehow

I will never get why they didn't have the premise simply be that Luke leads a new jedi order while Leia is like the leader of the new republic or something, then the new generation of jedi have to face some new threat. It just seems like the natural progression, and would make it really easy to introduce a few new diverse jedi without worrying about the backstop of them

Luke was never there, he actually became one with the force years before. He appeared to Rey and Kylo and did only what he needed to which is why he vanished. All of the events of the trilogy really just happened in Rey's mind.

Honestly, they're going to need to pull some kind of major retcon to get out of the mess Disney's bad writing got them into, and I don't think they can write their way out of it without basically just writing it out or rebooting it like they did with Clone Wars.

I'm convinced the initial plan was soft reboot of Episode 4 with the Force Awakens, and then do a sort of loose adaptation of Dark Empire.
Except "Last Jedi" fricked up everything, and then nobody cared about "Rise of Skywalker" which wound up just being a mess as it tried to fit in a ton of the originally planned content and solve the problems Last Jedi created like the "Resistance" having no military resources, and there being no clear bad guy, etc.

        >Let’s reboot the most popular movie of all time that made $4 billion dollars, is the absolute lynchpin of the entire saga, and is beloved by tens of millions.. what could possibly go wrong

This was their first problem. Nobody wanted a reboot. Everyone wanted a continuation of the Skywalker Saga. And if Kathleen didn’t feel like honoring the Original 6 films then she should have set her stupid movies 500 years after RoTJ and left them alone.

          Anonymous

          >Everyone wanted a continuation of the Skywalker Saga.
Lets face it, everyone who cared wanted an adaptation of the Thrawn Trilogy or the New Jedi Order. Either of which would have been easily doable for a company with Disney's resources. Kathleen Kennedy decided to throw everything out and just put no effort into writing up a coherent setting, overarching story that would make sense, creating characters that people would care about, or even at the most basic level that would be marketable.

Disney could have been selling boatloads of "Yavin 4 Jedi Temple" Lego sets. Or stuff for little kids doing Jedi Training without the whole 'getting brutally murdered by Vader' baggage. Lego made sets based off of stuff that was only in the EU because of video games in the 90s and it sold better than the new Star Wars toys.
500 years later might have been better, but even then its pretty clear the people in the drivers seat for the Disney movies just didn't give a shit.

Correct, but they could still conceivably do both. Luke’s Jedi Order is apparently pretty big in this new book. And it’s on Ossus. So it does seem like Lucasfilm is actually trying to align Legends and Canon together. It’s like free money to do so too.

There was a great post on saltier than crait that explained that the reason the sequels were so bad was because they were never meant to be serious adult follow ups. They were meant to be YA movies in the vein of Hunger games, Divergent and so on. They even posted leaked instructions from the initial auditions for the characters instructing the actors to act like they were in that kind of a movie.

That's really no excuse, even kids know when you're not putting any effort into making a story make sense. Even with a kids or 'young adult' audience in mind Disney upper management should have made sure they had a solid story bible for the trilogy, and what the toys would be like for each one well in advance.
The Clone Wars animated series for instance was clearly for kids, but had decent story telling, and was bearable to watch as an adult watching it with my 5 year old.

            >The Clone Wars animated series for instance was clearly for kids, but had decent story telling
A lot of the political themes in that series would fly over adults' heads, let alone kids.

              Anonymous

This isn't unusual for good content aimed at kids. You think that when I saw Return of the Jedi in the theater as a kid that I grasped its message about the dangers of religious extremism, or how violent resistance against fascist authoritarianism is justified and is often the only way to make progress towards a fair and just society?

That's really the big problem with Disney's trilogy, they clearly gave no thought to the messages in it, other than what Chinese censors would object to.
