Once I realize what was going on, I screamed “SCORSESE’S A HACK!!!”, got up, told everyone in the theater my lifting totals and told them they had better get the frick out and follow me on my walkout or I would be kicking their asses. It's really not that big of a deal. It's more cute than "deep." Your misinterpretation of the directors intent is ruining your experience more than what actually happened on the screen. Every time I watch it I don't even remember the rat in the end.
