Yes, it's a webcomic. Normally I post the link in the OP but Cinemaphile's been treating everything as spam lately.

Speculating on this comic is impossible, but I'm pretty sure she's part of ascended Kat
      >Zimmy has godlike powers of ether manipulation but can't control them. She also fricking hates Tictocks because she feels them watching her.
      >Omega knows everything except things that got messed up by Annie's existence
      >Gamma can negate Zimmy's ether hallucinations
      >Kat has few limits in the physical world but can't interact with the ether at all despite the robots ascending her to godhood
      >the court needs Zimmy and Gamma nearby for their stuff with Omega (pic follows Reynard saying "I thought the court had finished with you")
I'm pretty sure they're each part of godkat's omnipotence.

Yeah, it's completely impossible to say.
        Here are my thoughts:
-Annie fits into absolutely none of it, she seems to just be some random girl who happened to become Kat's friend. Unlike with Coyote's plan, which is also impossible to predict, Annie simply doesn't seem to fit into the Kat/Omega/Zimmy situation. She seems to only be incidentally connected to it because she fell off a bridge.
-Kat is probably at the center of all of this, as made evident by the Norns and Kat's importance on a cosmic level, as she is now officially a god. This probably also implies that the whole situation mainly concerns temporal affairs.
-If Annie really is incidental why would the norns help Kat in saving her? Especially since as Kat herself proved, you can only ever save n-1 Annies anyway. Is it really purely because Kat as a god has authority over them? Kat wasn't even officially a god at that point! It doesn't make sense to me! Especially considering that the norns have ultimate authority over the fate of mortals in their own pantheon. Not even Odin superseded them in that regard.
Therefore, I propose the norns are trying to fix some problem by helping Kat, likely that the timeline repeatedly goes wrong at the moment that Annie falls off the bridge. For some reason that just isn't meant to happen and somehow it keeps happening. Possibly, Coyote's plan fits into this event. Robot and Shadow 3 came from the Forest after all and the shadow people were created by Coyote. If any god was able to pull a stunt like changing a fate that's been decided, it would be a trickster god of such power as Coyote. We still have no idea why, but in this scenario, all the pieces fit together. Omega has issues predicting the future because Coyote managed to unravel it with that action. The question is, why would a girl being pushed off a bridge be such an important event. My best guess is that Kat is simply bound to be uniquely powerful, even among the gods... (1/2)

          >Kat wasn't even officially a god at that point!
That's the fricky thing about this comic's setting. Godhood is retroactive, like how Coyote has existed since the dawn of time, but was summoned into being by Humans' belief in him.

If the Court is man’s endeavor to become God, then perhaps Kat is the true fulfillment of the Court’s goals? And the astral ocean and plan to leave Earth is some kind of red herring.

            >And the astral ocean and plan to leave Earth is some kind of red herring.
There's this page where they say the Court's plan to leave to an etherless world is all for Omega. I think they mean they want to go somewhere that Omega's predictions will be completely accurate without interference from Annie. Especially since this exact same chapter says Annie won't be allowed to go since she can use the ether.

But if Omega is really a woman (or her remains) with etheric powers, then isn’t it all a lie?

The court also plans to bring the goddess of robots along, so I don't think they're very smart at detecting etheric influence

That part never made sense. Humans make the ether by being thinking beings with a concept of "the ether"

If you take people that know what the ether is somewhere else you're just going to retroactively make one there

None of the court's plan makes any sense. They invited a goddess along with them. I'm sure there will be more revelations about their true intentions in the future.

Heck, it's possible that in the gunnerkrigg universe all of space is just an ether invention by humans, just like how Lindsay is an alien. Maybe that one panel of Zimmy talking about how Kat is looking beyond the firmament is foreshadowing for that being how the gunnerkrigg universe works. Maybe ALL of existence is just ether make-believe. Who knows. It's impossible to predict Tom. Many have tried, all have failed.

I assume they think that they can avoid making a new ether if all their people are perfectly logical and STEMpilled.

                Anonymous

                Alternatively, just don't die.

That DOES make me think, though, maybe their plan makes sense after all. Even if they died, would there be a place psychopomps can't reach? If they go so far away that no gods can claim their souls, they would stay ether free, theoretically.

          Anonymous

... Possibly because the new people will quickly outnumber humans and become the greatest religion in the universe or whatever, who knows.
In any case, Kat seems to somehow have managed to mess up time and fate in the first loop of the timeline we are currently in.
Timelines are generally assumed to be parallel to one another, but the Norns' comments seem to make it clear that they are actually repeating one after another, throughout some higher timeline that the norns perceive linearily.
They talk about how Kat has come to them before and will come to them in the future.
The arbiter's interpreter, however, claimed that usually there is only one timeline.
I propose this theory, based on all of that:
There is an original timeline in which Kat saw Annie die and then either invented time travel as a mortal or used her powers as a god to screw up time in an effort to save Annie. This inadvertently created a situation that the Norns are not happy with, a constant loop of new timelines where Kat needs to figure out how to do time travel without breaking everything or just accept Annie's death. It is also likely that this is all part of Coyote's plan, in order to unwrite fate as a whole, which he finds boring because he likes not knowing everything that'll happen.
In any case, the Norns can not interfere directly, so they are hoping that Kat can somehow figure her way out of this loop she created. They let her save Annie, because they think that leads to the best results and they just keep letting Kat do her thing because they are infinite.

A good, dramatic conclusion to the comic would then be that Kat has to accept Annie's fate and let go of mortal life, herself. (That's my 2/2 cents. That's what I'd go for if I had written this story.)

Oh, and I forgot to tie it all back to Omega.
I've had the idea that Zimmy is some kind of aspect of the original Kat. It is possible that Zimmy, Omega, Anja and Kat and likely many many more people in Kat's and Zimmy's families are all reincarnations of the same entity or parts of that entity, based on them all looking sorta similar. There really isn't much to work with here. It is notable, though, that Kat's mother is a witch and Omega was called a witch. We really haven't learned anything at all about how witchcraft works in the gunnerkrigg universe, it just does whatever it needs to so far, so this connection could mean nothing or it could mean everything.

I'm pretty sure Anja is Alpha

              Anonymous

Actually, I don't think Anja is ever called a witch.
She does use seals, but like I said, I have no idea what delineates witchcraft from other magic in the gunnerkrigg universe, so who even knows.

The most likely answer to all of our questions is that nothing means anything, anyway. All of the symbolism Tom has ever used in the comic has been purely aesthetical, for the vibe and it's all just a story about some weird kids in a weird setting and it will have no conclusion. They'll just finish school and that'll be that.

I'd say Annie fits into the Kat situation by way of introducing her to the robots. Kat basically treats them like everyone else at the Court does until Annie rescues Robot from robo-jail (notably this happens after her death was averted). Kat doesn't become a god if Annie dies.

            Anonymous

Sure, I'm just saying Annie could be Annie-one. Any Annie would do. There's nothing special about Annie that makes her inherently important, she is just Kat's friend.

I was one of those anons, I am totally hype for this and hope this Mignola-esque heavy shadow style is for most of the chapter.

I'm getting real whiplash from the art in this comic now. I only got back into it a couple months after years and while I feel Tom is still a very skilled artist the way he draws the main cast has suffered from a kind of style deterioration of sorts, like he's drawn them for so long he no longer can see when there's some wonkiness going on in the faces or proportion.

        Anonymous

Yeah I agree, the art in the chapters around the time of the two Annies started to get kind of wonky and inconsistent. There are some stretches where for several pages the characters feel off and then it's like the style snaps back to normal. Tom's clearly still got it as this page alone shows, but man compared to the middle section of the comic it's just not nearly as consistent.
