She isn't explaining at all why this would make her powers stop working.

imagine her perception like the strings Jeanne saw on Smitty. Those strings do not reach inside the distortion.

        Anonymous

No, I get that the distortion would affect it, obviously. I meant Annie's not-death.
Although, upon further reflection, I guess it does make sense. If she just pulls information from the ether, I guess there is information on some kind of universe, spelled out in every detail, stored in the ether. It's a universe in which everything is the same as the one this story is set in, except Annie dies and from then on everything is different. And Omega is getting readings from that universe, instead of from the one she's currently in, I guess. Otherwise, now that we are in the timeline where Annie lived, Omega should get correct readings again, shouldn't she? Annie lived, for a fact. So, the only explanation that makes sense would be that there is some timeline, maybe a prescribed, 'correct' timeline spelled out somewhere in the ether.

          Anonymous

that is what I imagine it to be too. there is one "should be" universe in her head going to some point and the current "as is" universe confusing her. and things overlap here and there which ads to the confusion and throws her off enough to bother her plenty.

          Anonymous

It's because kat sent the robot bird back in time, she only sent ot back in time because annie said she did. So time is a circle with the starting point being annie living. An ontological paradox, annie is only alive because she lived.

            Anonymous

Well, I'm purely concerned with how her powers would make sense given the information we have, less so with why Annie and Kat's nonsense adventure caused it it get screwy.

              Anonymous

Though, going back a few pages, Omega said that there will be a time when her predictions will become 'less and less acurate', which doesn't sound like she's reading one particular 'correct' timeline where Annie died at all and rather she's getting conflicting readings, so this once again brings up the question:
Since we are now in the timeline where the event has happened, where Schroedinger's Annie is confirmed alive, why (or maybe rather HOW) would Omega still get readings from different timelines? It doesn't really make sense!

                >why (or maybe rather HOW) would Omega still get readings from different timelines? It doesn't really make sense!
that's a can of worms Tom opened with timetravel and "shifting". Personally I do now know for certain how the GKC universe operates now in terms of timelines (stable timeloop, different timelines, multiverses, alternate realities) so it's impossible to tell.

                Anonymous

I'm still fairly certain the only possible way the universe could work with what info we have is that there are subsequent 'timelines', (they could either be branching off into new timelines that start from 0, or the timelines are finite, they end and a new one starts). These timelines would actually be some kind of sub-timeline, though, because there is another timeline, a super-timeline, that is running concurrently, the one the Norns inhabit, which is linear and infinite.

It's still funny this all happened after a version of annie died like....a week into the school year and that version of kat gave so much of a shit to frick with the time stream.

The current versions of them? Yeah, sure. But that version of kat only knew annie for a couple days and still decided time must pay! If she didn't frick with time kat would have forgotten about annie by the time she graduated.

Annie fell on page 119. They knew each other longer than you remember. Although I don't think you are serious anyway.

Dude, they first interact on page 20. Toss in some minor time skips, and they knew each other for like a month max. Many of those pages are even focused on mort and zimmy.

They barely knew each other at that point.

Omega effectively has information powers that spans FAR into the future. Annie should have died on the bridge, but she didn't because Kat meddled. Because of this, a substantial amount of information is corrupted due to Annie being dumb enough to fall. In fact, most of gunnerkrigg's tests on Omega information seems to be "is this information still accurate?" Tests judging by the few mentions of Omega the scientists make.

        Anonymous

        But that's moronic.
        >Omega can see the future
        >but knows the future gets fricked up by Annie
        >so she knows Annie would already exist, and the alternate future created by that frickup
        >so her powers don't work, but do?

          Anonymous

Isn't it more like she knows the future up until the point where they frick up? This makes even less sense because we know that the norns didn't give a frick about any of this though.

          Anonymous

imagine a row of dominoes. you see the way they're set up and you can predict how they will fall by virtue of knowing their behaviour and the effect each falling piece has on the one it hits. so while you can not "see" the future, you see the outcome naturally because there is no other way it can go. until one domino changes into a gorilla all of a sudden and starts eating other pieces.

The previous page literally says she still can see the future.

I feel like Tom only JUST NOW decided he wanted this character to be hella epic and emotional and cathartic, like he was gooning himself the whole time during that flashback and came up with a big significant closeup panel that he thought would mean anything to anyone.

Anja is supposed to be Roma and her family probably came to England after Omega's time. Donald didn't really know much about the supernatural as a young man so I doubt he's related to Omega either.

        Anonymous

Why couldn't Omega be roma? Or have been taken advanrage of in her immobile state by roma, or her potential child have ended up with roma in some other way?

          Anonymous

I don't think Tom is really gonna go with "Omega was raped while immobile". If Omega was Roma and had kids with that scientist then idk, I think their kids would just integrate into normal upper class English society and then Anja wouldn't really identify with being Roma herself.
I guess "Omega had a kid who was kidnapped by gypsies" is possible, but it probably would've come up during that flashback.

            Anonymous

While I agree that 'raped while immobile' is WAAAAY out there for a kids' comic, it would have been likely to have happened, particularly if she was an outcast and seen as a witch, which is already defined as the devil's prostitute. People would probably have had little remorse raping a witch.
I don't think Tom would ever put anything like that in this comic, though, yes, I fully agree.

Right. No, that would actually make sense! Not the snipping off, I don't think a crow would be capable, but I wouldn't wanna rape a witch if I was harrassed by talking animals throughout. That's scary!

Eh. 1) It kinda robs Kat of agency. She's become a goddess because the the robots/new people worship her due to her actions.

      2) It kinda stretches credulity for even the Court to be that nigh-omniscient. Anja and Donny would HAVE to be in on it, and they have never once indicated that there's anything odd about her. I mean I guess you could cite how they refuse to let her go to the woods, but that's just them being protective.

So yeah, obviously it as the bridge thing. Cue the drooling memetards whining that it turned out to be the obvious point that the story had spent years building up to instead of some random nonsense that makes no sense. Because "professional" critics have turned 'predictable' into a dirty word.

    >Here, for now, I am free.
... Anyone else getting a serious red flag from this line? I suddenly have a feeling Omega is going to become Jeanne 2.0.

evil in this context could just be her odd dedication to the "future" (or dissociation from the "present"). her disregard for her own body could translate to a disregard to the bodies and autonomy of others.

I feel like it's impossible to be hyped about anything in this story. It's all too blasé. Normally you'd think
    >the mysterious supercomputer omega is actually a person with godlike powers
Would be a big reveal, but it's just another meaningless addition to the plot that will be forgotten as Tom gets bored. Even coyote, zimmy and kat and loup fighting each other is something that will be resolved with annie walking into a room where they'll all be playing poker or some shit and it'll be a cosmic representation of a massive war that will be offscreened and then this plotline will end and it'll be on to the next thing, maybe the court is trying to find their favorite cereal but coyote destroyed the factory in his rampage with loup, so now annie has to call the corporate branch to get them to ship in cereal from out of town but it's actually magic psychic cereal that gives the robots superpowers which are never mentioned again.

I hate that the leadup of this character was a vague bait and switch for no other purpose than to keep the reader guessing. Her earlier behavior with Antimony doesn't jive at all with her omniscient exposition dump and there's no valid reason for it to have been intentional misdirection on her part. It's just the author being bad.
