Manga moves faster than this, and when it doesnt, it at least give us important stuff per page.
That's just bad composition by Tom, as I remember the old portions of the comic always had times like these where a dozen pages are required to do something that realistically is worth 2-3 pages, of course you'll notice it much more easily when you're reading the pages as they update but it is not entirely new of an issue, to say Tom doesn't know what pacing is would be generous to his lack of knowledge of basic comic principles for someone who's been doing it for a decade.
How many decades will this storyline continue
Well 'Gunnerkrigg Court' as a location is shutting down, so they must be ending soon in some sense.
Yeah, Tom said the two Annies thing was wrapped up the way it was because it messed with his ending, which means it is ending soon. Though at the rate he updates, soon could be a few years from now. Can't imagine it being much longer than 20 years.
