Okay, so she does see, like, newtonian physical causality... But without being able to read minds or anything, how could ANY of her predictions ever even be correct?

What's got Rey worried she'll see in his mind?
      HANG ON!
Rey doesn't even have a brain! He's made out of cotton, plastic or glass for the eyes and metal from Annie's lockpicks! How could she possibly see what he would do? Or the robots of the court! They were just fake robots, moved by magic. I guess she sees the forces of the ether, too, but that would mean the ether can be understood scientifically and the court says it can't! That's their whole reason for leaving!

        >Because behaviour, like everything else, is deterministic.

Thought and behavior is a product of the atomic determinism of the materials that make up the brain. If we are supposed to believe that Omega's power works at all, then yes she can absolutely 'read minds' because she knows exactly what you are thinking and what you will do at every moment in time from your birth to your death. The only difficulty would perhaps be pinpointing exactly which one of those pre scripted thoughts you are thinking at this specific moment, like having a book that you know the contents of but not being able to remember what page number a given scene happens on.

It's not even about whether he has a brain or not. He's a creature of the ether, which doesn't follow any kind of physics and can ignore linear causal relations. Omega's powers should be absolutely useless in a world where ether exists.

        Anonymous

Our only hope for this comic is that Omega was the only person to know that the ether follows causality and she lied to the court about it for whatever reason. That's the only explanation I can think of right now to fix this situation.

          Anonymous

OR, alternatively, another explanation would be that due to the court's diligently enforced isolation from the forest (let's assume she came to the court post Jeanne) she only ever happened to predict humans with no connection whatsoever to any and all etheric goings on, even in their lives before the court, but that's INCREDIBLY weak.

            Anonymous

She predicted Tony and Donald looking at snail sex, not Tony and Surma, because Surma and Anja are both ether users, but it made no difference on her prediction, which I assume to be the snail sex.
The only reason Annie is special would be that she was the first and only ether user she happened to try to predict.

From the perspective of a different person who had only cursory knowledge of Omega and mostly told through inference, yes, I suppose you COULD make that point if you really wanted to, but it's not the same at all, obviously, as hearing it directly from the source. Even Annie understands that.

We had a flashback with Omega saying this stuff and I assume it was being told to Antimony because she asks a directly related follow-up question. At least some of this is double exposition. She said the thing about manipulating small animals 7 pages ago.

Literal gods have been fricking around with the court since it was started. The giant hole that annie fell into was put there by coyote with his magic god powers. My issue is saying that GC's quality is 10/10 at any point in its run which is frankly bullshit when compared to other webcomics like Unsounded or KSBD. I'm not necessarily saying that GC is bad, but it simply doesn't match other ongoing webcomics that frequent Cinemaphile that fricking annihilate it in quality.

I disagree, I think Gunnerkrigg at its height easily matched Unsounded or KSBD as they are now. There was an incredibly strong run in the middle of the comic that honestly I think reads just as good as either of those, albeit with a very different dynamic to itself. That's also really not an insult to either of them, I don't understand why you're being so defensive about their quality. I consider them to be easily some of the best webcomics ever produced, I just think Gunnerkrigg was also, briefly, in that category. Definitely not anymore mind you, but I think there was a time that it was.

Wonder how many pages till they reference the fact annie's dad is currently arm deep in omegas computer body? Obviously it's no different then when you replace the hard drive in your computer, but it's still a thing that's been going on.

And I did question a few pages ago when this reveal happened how they're going to make tony not look like a monster experimenting on a person, and the answer is there's nothing left of her organic body.... Neat.

Tony has barely anything to do with Omega, though, anon.

        >Tony has barely anything to do with Omega
??? The entire reason he's at the court is to work on Omega.

Yes, obviously he's done very minor, unimportant assignments regarding Omega. There has been absolutely no indication that Tony even knows it is a person, though.

there's no direct indication of that, but he's a surgeon. why would the court have him involved if he only knows omega to be a computer? not to mention, after tony went AWOL trying to contact surma's spirit, the court was willing to overlook annie's cheating if tony came back and worked for them again. if tony wasnt that involved with omega i dont think they would have done that.

idk, if Aata's right hand woman is saying that Tony is the best person to go to on Omega, then he's probably doing more than minor unimportant work. Idk if he knows it's a person, I was just refuting that he has barely anything to do with Omega.

The ether clearly interrupts newtonian causality, which is why omega couldn't predict fire girl. The court wants "control" whatever that is, and is trying to escape the ether.

But no matter where they go they would bring the ether with them?

Zeta&co must have been one of thier lesser experiments.

The ether should make her prediction powers worthless, always. Whenever an etheric being shapeshifts it is moving mass and matter around in a way that rapes the laws of physics. Every action of all of them on the planet should be changing the directions of atoms constantly.

    Annies Boobs

I also wanted to do some saggy Omega breasts. Ignore the hands I started getting a bad headache right at the end there.
