Fun show to watch, but it has so many "remember this guy!" moments and callbacks that it's virtually unwatchable unless you've seen all of breaking bad. Would only work as a standalone series if they dropped the cartel shit and focused on the lawyer aspects.

Walter and Jesse are in one single episode. Gus and Mike and Tuco are the only returning characters but it's because BCS is in the same world as BB, what do you expect them to do? Would it have been better if they deviated completely from BB? What would the point have been? The show is literally focused around a side character of BB. Also considering the entire storyline is about Saul who gets next to no character development in BB I think it is completely watchable for those that have never watched BB

I wouldn't say deviate, but it's hard to imagine watching BCS and then BB without having seen either before. I agree that BCS gives much needed development to Saul and does a great job at it, but without BB certain aspects of the show don't make much sense.

        >Gus's hate boner for the cartel
        >black and white segments that are post BB
        >the conclusion of BCS talking about Walt and his Meth Empire being why Saul became Gene to begin with

Not to mention that BCS spoils almost all of BB's story by the end of it. So I mean, I guess you CAN watch BCS without any BB context, but when the Walt stuff comes up and Saul is getting life in prison, it won't make sense and you'll already be informed about Gus, Hank, Mike, The Salamancas, and Walt all being dead before even starting BB.

BCS started out trying to stand on its own but then went all in on being a BB companion piece. In the first 1/2 the show, when they introduced future BB characters, they gave them substance so that they made sense to someone who hadn't seen BB. Gus's intro was just like BB, Mike's intro seemed very organic. But S5 and S6 are completely dependent on BB, which disqualifies it from being a good prequel (due to mass spoiling of future events).
Source: watched it with my gf who had never seen BB. I never had to explain anything until around S5 and S6. Then I had to explain BB plot at least once per episode so that it made sense.

AMC has almost zero pull compared to the streaming services. These awards are about which studio can shill the most to the award members.

Mad Men ended 9 years ago. AMC isnt even a player in the game anymore compared to the streaming platforms and other studios. There literally a walking dead spinoff rerun channel now.

To be honest Mad Men was actually good, the Emmy committee couldn't snov it without looking evidently corrupt (I mean, they are corrupt, but at least they try to put on a facade).

Good. It's a terrible fan-service show. Without the breaking bad connection nobody would have watched it at all.
Breaking Bad wasn't great either but it was leagues better than this crap.

Of course not. It was actually a good show that wasn't full of blacks. Of course it's not going to win any clown awards.

I really liked the first season but then the show becomes Better Like Mike and adds too much cartel shit which turns it into diet Breaking Bad. Also Chuck was the best character.

The show wasn't trying to make a liberal political point, so obviously it was never going to win awards. You need to hamfist the feminism, homosexuality and anti-white shit to get those little golden statues.

Is yelling "MARDY" over and over and saying "frick" every other word really worthy of 3 straight Emmy wins? I personally don't give a shit because little israeli statues don't impress me. But if one were to look at it objectively, would they find some inherent bias in the voting?

Zero cultural impact. BrBa’s finale was over a decade ago and it’s still discussed 10 times more.

      Anonymous

I agree with your general point, but using the finale is such a misstep. Season 5 and 6 just coasted on the glory of Season 4. When people remember BB, they remember the "Im the one who knocks" scene, rather than, dunno, Todd shooting that kid down.

Zero Emmy's with that number of noms is targeted. You don't go like, seven plus years, and constant acknowledgement like that, and not win ANYTHING. Even a technical award. This is like a punishment for Breaking Bad being too successful.

Why does anyone care? Award shows are an embarrassing industry circlejerk.

It'd probably be best for the entertainment industry as a whole if they put a pause on all of them for at least ten years so that they're not even thinking about impressing each other. Maybe when they come back, people will actually find them interesting again.

Fair enough. I'll admit that it was very entertaining, but in all it was cheap and lazy, just like Breaking Bad.
I'm not even sure why I think that. For example I loved watching BB, and I'll still rewatch episodes and clips from time to time, but I can never shake off the impression that it's deeply unserious, kinda like a soap opera.

I think David Chase is right about the golden age of television effectively being over now, with BCS and Succession being the last two great tv series we’ll see for the foreseeable future.

It ended the second something like Season 5 of Game of Thrones was allowed to air on tv. When two unqualified hacks were allowed to adapt the greatest book series of all time and the entire HBO CEO board green lit it, it was over.
