I wonder if people b***hing about Harry vs Voldermort in the movies actually remember the same scene in the book where Harry just spends about 10 minutes slowly explaining Dumbledore's plan to him... In the middle of an ongoing battle.

my biggest problem with the movies is in the tri wizard cup teleport to the graveyard and harry is literally in the grasp of a statue cant run and voldemort is back, he has a literal knife in his hand

to be fair at that point Voldemort had recently realized Harry and Dumbledore had been hunting and destroying fragments of his soul which terrified and enraged him. he doesn't "feel" it happening like in the film and has to physically check them. he realizes that he's likely lost possession of perhaps all his horcruxes and that all or several of them might be damaged. he also had spent most of that book agonizing over the ability of Harry to deflect his spells so he was desperate to hear Harry explanation. he would want all that info before killing him

If all you care about is the end, then sure.

but why? the last one was less than a decade ago.

      It was never faithfully adapted.

Tbh if you did a full page-accurate show of the books you’d run out of shooting days before the actors grew up and it would be hundreds of hours.

      >not 7
aren't they remaking the books? wtf are they doing with the extra 3 seasons?

Nah, the books also skip months at the time. 7 would make more sense though but i dunno

The most comfy moments were the days and evening in Hogwarts, sitting in the common room with a crackling fire and your housemates around, eating delicious foods cooked by a race of willing magical slaves.

I really hope they don't go full diversity though.

The filler and padding are the best parts, the movies leaving those out is what turned them into very generic YA-shit. But I don't know if straight up ignoring the suspense part of the story for 60% of your runtime would make for succesful tv.

The movies were shit. Not only they cut essential scenes but then they ADDED useless, stupid ones (like the Burrow being burned down and Harry running through the fields chasing Bellatrix).

She's gonna be a nog, because now all the truly smart characters need to be 1) female and 2) black.
The ~~*liberals*~~ in charge of this shit seem to think that replacing one negative stereotype with a positive one is the solution. Hermione will be black, it's guaranteed.

And Harry will be indian because Rowling was stupid enough to make up the bullshit that he has an indian grandmother. Years after the books were over, of course.

            The first two were good.

I really liked the third movie. Cuarón is a genius. Fourth movie is simply boring (though admittedly the book was as-well) and I didn't bother beyond that.

it wasn't a perfect adaptation but it was a great film. if he had continued the series and made the theatrical cuts 3hr long it could have been so much better

              Anonymous

The third was fine as a movie, but I really hate the decision to make them dress “normally”.
The unreality and surreal nature of them wearing robes and being a little bit more like Victorian England than anything modern is a big part of the fantasy. None of the costumes from the first two look outdated because they aren’t normal people clothes. But in the third movie hermione’s rocking some hipster jeans and slim-fit hoodies that just scream early 2000s even though it takes place in the 90s when nobody dressed like that. Which creates problems later on where you’ve pulled the story forward in time to 2010, but the existence of texting fricks up the plot when it doesn’t for the books which happened in the 90s.
Actually since enough time has passed for the 90s to be retro/vintage, they could do some sick fricking costume design even when they dress normally. But they will probably make the same mistake and give Ron a broccoli cut.

The third movie sucked. Cuaron turned Hermione into a mary-sue and sidelined Ron.
Also turning the Spectrum Patronum into a bunch of light really fricked up the plot for people who didn't read the books.

Sounds like a stupid idea, some people look young enough to play teenagers at 20, but you can't predict somebody looking older or younger at 10 years old. That's also exactly what went wrong with Radcliff, by the fifth one he was 17, looked 23 and played a 15-year old, it looked awful. Just filming for seven years and taking your time with the post-production like Avatar did would be much smarter, but I guess greedy execs don't like to wait for their money.

The most hilarious instance of this of all time will always be Merlin. On the off months between two seasons he very suddenly became a MAN so fast they had to reshoot the intro sequence and reword the intro narration from “a young boy” to “a young man”

That's simply how the UK ages. 10 years is a stupid idea though, why not just seven.
