The show has been spinning it's wheels so badly since s2. S1 really felt like it was building up to something which made it interesting, not to mention homelander actually felt like a threat and it loomed across the whole season. I haven't even finished s4 ep1 yet because I got so bored, the show just feels so bogged down in political satire and the whole ryan storyline which again feels like it's in constant loop.

My guess is that they originally thought they only had 3 seasons to work with, then later got extended to 5 seasons, so they had to scramble to mess up the entire last act of season 3 and have the gang go full moron to team up with HL to take out Soldier Boy so they can keep HL alive for 2 more seasons.
