i've recently come to the conclusion that i would be most happy ignoring all prequels and prequel expanded universe, ignoring all sequels and all sequels exapnded universe, and just read the original expanded universe post return of the jedi
The prequels were nice in that they established a lot of different planets with different people, but the immediately relevant lore is almost all terrible. The Chosen One prophecy stuff is tacked on nonsense, the Clone Wars as a conflict are dull and hollow plot expedience, the Sith are boring.
I don't know, the sith and the clone wars were exciting when on screen. What the frick deeper meaning did you get from space nazis vs space American insurgents in the OT?
To add to my post, I always saw the OT as a WW2 space nazi Guns of Navarone kind of thing with a personal narrative through Luke. The prequels, thinking about it, I can't actually imagine what they were about beyond Anakin losing his mind and making the empire happen. But I always thought they were entirely strange and very sci-fi, and yet somehow I could also imagine the OT coming from that world. Filling in the background to the what and where and why of this classically authoritarian bad guy added a lot of alienness that I thought was very imaginable.
Oh and finally I think the sequels failed utterly in seeming like an extension and continuation of star wars and that's why they are so universally rejected, and why so many have come around to the prequels. And yes, the extended universe material is a massive reason for this. Frick filoniwars.
>The prequels, thinking about it, I can't actually imagine what they were about beyond Anakin losing his mind and making the empire happen
Fall of the Republic. Got your Byronic hero, more renaissance-inspired aesthetics. They feel quite aristocratic compared to the OT.
>George Lucas had a singular vision.
Of selling you toys. He can't be both the legitimate artist with the valid creative vision and the humble toy salesman. Only one can take priority.
There's no reason it couldn't be more mature in its tone other than toy sales.
George's valid creative vision tier of shit is best exemplified by the fricking 50's diner. Why is it there? He wanted it there who cares, it's for kids, stop thinking about it so much. It's the worst kind of Stephen King "straight from the navel of Gan" bullshit hack storytelling.
it was a miracle that he got god tier editors for a new hope and a better director than himself for empire. his incompetence became apparent at return of the jedi
it's kind of the most rushed Star Wars film in many ways, not really in terms of production but like narrative and stuff. a lot of good can happen from things being rushed.
It trying to be more mature in tone would fix a lot of its issues. It being "for kids" is used as an excuse too often for the shitty parts and plot holes.
Because it focused on world building, which is why the story suffered.
the OT had the opposite issue, the story is polished but the world building is minimal, just a bunch of deserts and shitty corridors covered in LED lights.
The sequels have neither.
I'm talking about before anything had released but trailers and stills. >insert sweaty Black.jpg
No I mean the shots of the wrecked star destroyers and shit. That shaky cam shot of the stormtroopers inside the lander. The hype for all that before it came out.

This kind of shit. You don't like SW if this shot couldn't get you hyped. What a shame.

it really did justify the entire empire. pretty based
The heaping mound of diarrhea that is the ST doesn't help. Unfortunately something worse existing doesn't REALLY make something else retroactively any better than it was.
No, that's fine. It is funny but if that ruins it for someone, then honestly, that someone has some growing up to do. Life is funny.

>ruins it for
So any pointing out of any flaws means it's completely ruined, gotcha. Seems pretty childish to think of things that way, to think you can't like something while acknowledging its flaws, but you do you mate.

No need to get so defensive. There's plenty people genuinely sperging out about the funny stuff. Most of them are fat and not very intelligent.

These threads are basically just long term group therapy.

in my star wars story, a jedi is denied a lightsaber
Whether you like these movies or not, George Lucas had a singular vision. It was his story.

He didn't even direct the best installment. George is a saint though.
He didn't direct RotS?

No. The prequels are shit and always will be. And you know this. It's why you made this thread.
Cope and seethe.
It's kino in most everything but its actual execution.
Like most of star wars, really. The execution almost always falls short of the potential.
That's life.
>Berification not required.
ST is just shit.
Yes, of course, completely. It did LOOK really great in spots at first, but that's it.
Stylistically the ST is abominable.
I'm talking about before anything had released but trailers and stills.

Don't need to. I don't like that garbage trilogy.
You're literally at it right now.
It's what makes George dickriders so frustrating, not even George could really nail it and got sucked up his own ass so far he stopped trying.
>get accused of being arrogant
>pompously stands there at the worst possible moment in the entire franchise
it really did justify the entire empire. pretty based
I'm watching the Mandalorian it's pretty kino. Also tried the new Battlefront 2 game. Campaign is fun, playing as Imperial SAS troops
Andor is the only nuwars content worth watching
No. It's in fact the least watchable. Stop shilling that trash.
>zoomers become adults
>look back at shit when they were 4 years old as underrated and misunderstood masterpieces
You are legitimate gays.
The heaping mound of diarrhea that is the ST doesn't help. Unfortunately something worse existing doesn't REALLY make something else retroactively any better than it was.
People focus on the rough edges too much.
It's easier to ignore rough edges when there aren't so many of them that's it's nearly all rough edges in spots.
Even stuff like the Mustafar fight is tainted with that terrible "my point of view" line.
You need to grow up, man.
See, do I need to grow up to get it or is it a movie for kids to sell me toys I wouldn't play with anyway since MINT IN BOX, pick one, which is it
Stop being autistic over funny lines.

Gen X and coallennial old heads watched the OT (another gay story about how nazis are bad) and went yoooooo.
Only manchildren who couldn't move on from the cartoons and games like the prequels.
Only manchildren who couldn't move on from the original trilogy dislike the prequels.
