Has this ever happened before? As in, a tduio literally finishes a movie then just decides not to release it. Closest I can think of is the original cut of Solo, but even then that was released after reshoots.

Yes, it's happened plenty of times, but not to this scale. With COVID inflating the budget, Batgirl's production budget ballooned to 90 million dollars. There isn't a single studio that ever has or ever will decide to willingly take a nearly 100 million dollar bath on a movie.
And not just because of the money. Also because you would piss off every single member of the production and potentially burn bridges with important people you might need for other films. Add on top of all that, other talent might decide to go to other studios because they've lost faith in your ability to keep them happy.
this is all just a pr stunt, they're trying to artificially recreate the #releasethesnydercut campaign so they'll build up more hype.
Kinda hard for that to happen for a movie that hasn't even had a trailer released. Not to mention this wouldn't make sense as a PR stunt because all of this is horrible publicity that has people questioning the leadership at Warner Bros., including WB's own employees
They knew nobody gave a shit about this movie, pretending to cancel it has gotten more people talking about it than if they had released a trailer. They'll give out little bits of info online and get lots of people talking then announce it's being released and get everyone talking again, they'll barely even pay for marketing. They probably told most people involved what they were going to do too.
It has the stench of death around it. Only a few nerds will see it out of morbid curiosity if it ever sees the light of day. It's dead.
We'll see.
It might be barely believable as a PR stunt in normal times, but due to the recent merger, it's clear this is the new guys doing cleaning house after discovering Batgirl was a huge turd on the living room carpet. Going back on their words now would make them seem weak and indecisive. Not going to happen
You seem to be under the impression WB are competant at making superhero movies
good luck doing that with a movie no one is excited about at all
Dude, even people who actually like Batgirl are relieved this movie us getting fricked. Nobody's going to petition for its release.
pretty bad plan since there's lots of support coming from normies to never release the film
the movie doesn't exist, dumbfrick, it was money laundering. look at the outfit they gave her for christ's sake
>And not just because of the money. Also because you would piss off every single member of the production and potentially burn bridges with important people you might need for other films. Please stop parroting Grace Randolph. I work in the industry there are barely any jobs. Warner Brothers could shit on my chest and I would still report to work
WBDiscovery is going to just produce reality TV crap. They don't need to hire a bunch of entitled expensive buttholes. Trust me talent will be lining up to suck their wiener for the few roles that will be available.
>potentially burn bridges with important people
They worked on Batgirl. The rigger doesn't care. The director deserves a rope for accepting such pathetic project.
>100 million dollar bath
I now believe that Hollywood (mainly Netflix) are using these "bad" tv shows and movies as vehicles for "exclusive cinematic art porn" where these literally who actors are filming real sex scenes that are meant only for people in their circles. Thus, something like this isn't a complete waste if it isn't released to the public.
It's an idea I came up with, and I'm starting to assume more and more that every "dark" good idea I have is already being employed in secret by the elites.
Jerry Lewis' holocaust kino.
will it ever be released??
I hope so, it's been built up to be a good fricking laugh.
Supposedly it will be released after he is dead.
he died in 2017
That 90s Fantastic Four movie
That was made on the cheap just to retain the rights, which is funny since the costumes were more comic accurate than anything released since.
That was made to never be released. It's completely different
And yet trailers for it were sent out to theaters and featured on VHS of Corman's other films, and it made it through the MPAA. Could be they were considering releasing it but made a last minute decision not to.
Anti-white woke garbage movie isn't released? This is a great thing.
>We never got to see JUSTman as Firefly
Damn…
this is my only problem with the cancellation
Anyone remember the Nick Cage Superman?
That shit was bizzare
>Filming was recently completed on the project and it was officially in post-production, set to drop on streaming service HBO Max later this year.
>However, the film will now not see the light of day (for a streaming or theatrical release), with WB confirming the news.
>Several media outlets report that the sudden move follows a change in leadership at the studio, notably the arrival of Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav who has focused on cutting costs where possible and prioritising theatrical films as opposed to movies that are created solely for streaming audiences.
So he's cutting costs by... not releasing a movie that's 90% complete to not make any money off of it back? I dunno, sounds like fricking bullshit to me bros. What's the real score here?
It would cost probably $50m plus to do reshoots, finish cgi, etc. The movie may not fit into the DCEU timeline which keeps changing. The movie is allegedly bad, and would hurt the brand. And getting rid of crap projects quickly allows you to focus on the projects with a lot more promise. he doesn't want to start his tenure with a few back to back bombs being released
It sounds really weird.
The only reasons I can think of:
>The movie was really, really fricking bad as they say it was and it really wasn't worth the cost to finish it
>The movie is tied to the Flash film, which is causing massive problems because of Ezra Miller
>The directors were Will Smith's proteges, and now that Will Smith is all but persona non grata in Hollywood over the slap, Hollywood is cutting ties with them
>Some kind of power move by Zaslav to kick around WB people
aren’t they getting money back from taxes for it?
Yes.
100% this is a marketing tactic intended to build "grassroots" buzz.
They kinda fricked up though, the Snyder cut buzz was fabricated by bots, and even fewer people give a shit about yet another Batgirl reboot.
This is Putin's movie cancellation.
lmao
>implying this is unprecedented
Remember when WB pulled the plug on an Aliens RPG by Obsidian which was 90% complete?
>obsidian
>90% complete
So 50%?
The lead actress was probably so shit it wasn't salvageable. They pick these random spic-nic instagram influencers or whatever and give them top billing, only to find out these morons can't act to save their lives. Same thing with that Elle Balinska broad
Sounds like this. It could salvaged with reshoots but if the lead actor is terrible there is nothing you can do.
I can't believe this will never surface. Surely they just shit it out to their streaming service in a year or something, right? If they genuinely do decide to can it after it being finished, I can see it becoming one of those lost medias that everyone tries to find.
Somebody will leak it
lmao, based zaslav, he should cancel ww84 and birds of prey
kek. i guess they realised that the snydershit has ruined DC. how do you frick up your franchise so hard that fricking aquaman and shazam have 2 movies but batman doesn't even have a solo movie?
they rushed in too hard and tried to catch up with the avengers and but got burnt. i hope they do a proper reset from the batman 2 and build it up slowly this time. with the way the MCU is collapsing they have the perfect chance here
After the Batwoman thing I'm not surprised
If they don't clean the slate and do a fresh reboot of the DCEU, then they are just going to continue to be fricked up the ass. Bringing Snyder back will mean double or triple anal penetration
The Flash WAS GOING TO REBOOT. Batgirl would set up a new continuity of movies lead by women and PoCs. Discovery said frick that shit.
You might not like it but their only recourse is Snyder.
The Flash reboot was complete pants-on-head moronic in every possible way. The people responsible need to be fired and find some proper talent to come up with a good way to bring these comics to screen. There have to talented people out there who are not named Snyder
they will obviously rework the ending of the movie so that Keaton is a one-time thing and he doesn't become the main Batman
which would make the movie a stand-alone, not a reboot
What was supposed to happen in the flash reboot? Something about him running real fast and messing up the timeliness? I have never read the books so I don't know how he does it or even what he's supposed to do
I dunno, but if that was the plot in order to reboot, and they are no longer planning to reboot, then The Flash is hopefully gonna get trashed too
>The Flash is hopefully gonna get trashed too
Or they just change the ending to not be a reboot. That Supergirl could be the greatest actress to ever live and people would still hate her if they murder a fricking baby to replace Superman with her.
but if the whole movie is conceived as building up to a reboot in the last act, but then you cancel the reboot, the movie wont really make much sense
Kal-El was killed in Keaton's timeline, not ours, so Supergirl was never replacing Superman
if they fix the Keaton issue, the movie could easily just be standalone without rebooting anything
>Kal-El was killed in Keaton's timeline, not ours, so Supergirl was never replacing Superman
The universes were merging. The after credit scene is Flash talking to Aquaman and Aquaman having no idea who Superman is
So they can cut that scene
And a lot of others I'm sure
No the Flash was a half baked "Reboot". They need to wipe the slate clean
This is on you, chuds, Because of you we won't get the first latina trans superhero movie
>Has this ever happened before?
Plenty of times, but one of the most egregious in recent memory was Black Water Transit. Laurence Fishburne and Karl Urban were the leads. It was about a shipping manager working with the police to stop a smuggling ring operating in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina who are moving contraband through his port. The shooting went fine, with eventual additional shooting needed for scenes near the films end. The problem came with the financing. Apparently one of the producers bullshitted that he had the money. Then he had to go out and get more from some organization out of the Caiman Islands. Then the studio went into bankruptcy while the Caiman organization demanded they be paid back. Then they sued over the rights to the movie going back and forth in court. Then they had an auction after the studio went backrupt, and the two biggest bidders turned out to be shell corporations belonging to the producer and the Cayman group. Eventually the producer got convicted of fraud and went to prison.
Basically the movie will probably never be released because it technically has no shot ending, all the actors moved on, the production company/studio is gone and everyone else is fricked do to legal problems. It cost at least $26 million.
>Laurence Fishburne and Karl Urban
Damn I would have watched that.
We've all been laughing about how Disney execs have tanked Star Wars, meanwhile these hacks are somehow even worse.
How much incompetence does it take before people start losing their jobs over there?
>How much incompetence does it take before people start losing their jobs over there?
Are you slow? It's already happened
i can see the CW airing it with 20 advertising spots in between
