Has this ever happened before? As in, a tduio literally finishes a movie then just decides not to release it.

Has this ever happened before? As in, a tduio literally finishes a movie then just decides not to release it. Closest I can think of is the original cut of Solo, but even then that was released after reshoots.

Yes, it's happened plenty of times, but not to this scale. With COVID inflating the budget, Batgirl's production budget ballooned to 90 million dollars. There isn't a single studio that ever has or ever will decide to willingly take a nearly 100 million dollar bath on a movie.

And not just because of the money. Also because you would piss off every single member of the production and potentially burn bridges with important people you might need for other films. Add on top of all that, other talent might decide to go to other studios because they've lost faith in your ability to keep them happy.

this is all just a pr stunt, they're trying to artificially recreate the #releasethesnydercut campaign so they'll build up more hype.

        Anonymous

Kinda hard for that to happen for a movie that hasn't even had a trailer released. Not to mention this wouldn't make sense as a PR stunt because all of this is horrible publicity that has people questioning the leadership at Warner Bros., including WB's own employees

good luck doing that with a movie no one is excited about at all

They knew nobody gave a shit about this movie, pretending to cancel it has gotten more people talking about it than if they had released a trailer. They'll give out little bits of info online and get lots of people talking then announce it's being released and get everyone talking again, they'll barely even pay for marketing. They probably told most people involved what they were going to do too.

It might be barely believable as a PR stunt in normal times, but due to the recent merger, it's clear this is the new guys doing cleaning house after discovering Batgirl was a huge turd on the living room carpet. Going back on their words now would make them seem weak and indecisive. Not going to happen

      >100 million dollar bath
I now believe that Hollywood (mainly Netflix) are using these "bad" tv shows and movies as vehicles for "exclusive cinematic art porn" where these literally who actors are filming real sex scenes that are meant only for people in their circles. Thus, something like this isn't a complete waste if it isn't released to the public.

It's an idea I came up with, and I'm starting to assume more and more that every "dark" good idea I have is already being employed in secret by the elites.

    >Filming was recently completed on the project and it was officially in post-production, set to drop on streaming service HBO Max later this year.

    >However, the film will now not see the light of day (for a streaming or theatrical release), with WB confirming the news.

    >Several media outlets report that the sudden move follows a change in leadership at the studio, notably the arrival of Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav who has focused on cutting costs where possible and prioritising theatrical films as opposed to movies that are created solely for streaming audiences.

So he's cutting costs by... not releasing a movie that's 90% complete to not make any money off of it back? I dunno, sounds like fricking bullshit to me bros. What's the real score here?

      Anonymous

It would cost probably $50m plus to do reshoots, finish cgi, etc. The movie may not fit into the DCEU timeline which keeps changing. The movie is allegedly bad, and would hurt the brand. And getting rid of crap projects quickly allows you to focus on the projects with a lot more promise. he doesn't want to start his tenure with a few back to back bombs being released

      Anonymous

      It sounds really weird.

The only reasons I can think of:
      >The movie was really, really fricking bad as they say it was and it really wasn't worth the cost to finish it
      >The movie is tied to the Flash film, which is causing massive problems because of Ezra Miller
      >The directors were Will Smith's proteges, and now that Will Smith is all but persona non grata in Hollywood over the slap, Hollywood is cutting ties with them
      >Some kind of power move by Zaslav to kick around WB people

The Flash WAS GOING TO REBOOT. Batgirl would set up a new continuity of movies lead by women and PoCs. Discovery said frick that shit.

The Flash reboot was complete pants-on-head moronic in every possible way. The people responsible need to be fired and find some proper talent to come up with a good way to bring these comics to screen. There have to talented people out there who are not named Snyder

they will obviously rework the ending of the movie so that Keaton is a one-time thing and he doesn't become the main Batman
which would make the movie a stand-alone, not a reboot

What was supposed to happen in the flash reboot? Something about him running real fast and messing up the timeliness? I have never read the books so I don't know how he does it or even what he's supposed to do

I dunno, but if that was the plot in order to reboot, and they are no longer planning to reboot, then The Flash is hopefully gonna get trashed too

                >The Flash is hopefully gonna get trashed too
Or they just change the ending to not be a reboot. That Supergirl could be the greatest actress to ever live and people would still hate her if they murder a fricking baby to replace Superman with her.

but if the whole movie is conceived as building up to a reboot in the last act, but then you cancel the reboot, the movie wont really make much sense

Kal-El was killed in Keaton's timeline, not ours, so Supergirl was never replacing Superman
if they fix the Keaton issue, the movie could easily just be standalone without rebooting anything

    >Has this ever happened before?
Plenty of times, but one of the most egregious in recent memory was Black Water Transit. Laurence Fishburne and Karl Urban were the leads. It was about a shipping manager working with the police to stop a smuggling ring operating in the aftermath of hurricane Katrina who are moving contraband through his port. The shooting went fine, with eventual additional shooting needed for scenes near the films end. The problem came with the financing. Apparently one of the producers bullshitted that he had the money. Then he had to go out and get more from some organization out of the Caiman Islands. Then the studio went into bankruptcy while the Caiman organization demanded they be paid back. Then they sued over the rights to the movie going back and forth in court. Then they had an auction after the studio went backrupt, and the two biggest bidders turned out to be shell corporations belonging to the producer and the Cayman group. Eventually the producer got convicted of fraud and went to prison.

Basically the movie will probably never be released because it technically has no shot ending, all the actors moved on, the production company/studio is gone and everyone else is fricked do to legal problems. It cost at least $26 million.
