If he pulled his 7 year shit and got out he wouldn’t be able to be with Kim anyway because she had moved on a long time ago, and without Kim his outside life would’ve been mediocre at best until he started getting in trouble again. By doing what he did he got to at least make amends with her and he’s gonna be easily one of the most well liked people in prison anyway. Not only is he a celebrity amongst criminals but he also has valuable legal knowledge and skills from being a lawyer that will get him special treatment and make him a ton of friends.
