Well it depends. If he's playing a royal it makes sense as they don't need to do physical labour all day. If he's a peasant then he wouldn't be fat since he's labouring all day, burning up the calories he takes in. From the looks of it, the only way to get somewhere is by foot, horse or carriage so there would be more physical movement on his part if his character was on the go all the time.
