Because he either used the drug money to buy the resturant or he invested everything in it from money he owned loan sharks so he needed to be a respected drug lord to not be bullied around by the criminals
because there are many gus fringes of the world that are running a legit business with a shady underworld business on the side RIGHT NOW as im typing this
In all seriousness though with endless disposable income couldn’t help just continuously grow his front business using his drug money? He could have just kept going until his main competitor was kfc. I highly doubt he makes more than KFC
I don’t care I only replied to (you) because it would make it more likely to get a response. It worked and I’ve had my fill. I’m done with you now. It wasn’t even relevant to your comment. now frick off

McDonald's owners make over a million dollars a month anon and he owned like 20 stores or whatever I don't remember I dropped this snooze fest of a show after season 3
Gus was the founder and owner of a chain of dozens of fast food joints. Even if we assume the meth business 10x his profits, he still has to live in a modest house and drive a shitty Volvo to not draw attention, and constantly watch his back and do 10x as much work to keep things covered up. The entire premise of his business is a massive plot hole, if even one Los Pollos delivery truck gets stopped and checked, its game over for his whole business.
His legit business wasn't profitable on its own. He used it to launder the drug money. That's why he was able to make it like literally 5-star quality, at fast food prices.
He could afford his soulless boring house and more with los pollos alone. Why did he want that much money anyway? He lived alone and didn't do much. He was a respected member of the community, friend of the cops, etc. Was it...his ego?
He did not seem to have a very luxurious life.
He lived in a medium sized house and never seemed to travel around.
My guess is the only reason he kept going was to get back at Hector
Making drugs is risky, and all, but successfully running a legitimate business in America is WAY more of a fricking pain in the ass. Especially a restaurant. The amount of government regulation and red tape will have you too worried to even fart on the off chance an inspector or official will show up and ask to see your permit or impose yet another tax.
And yet, he ran both with ease. He always had time for random trips out to the middle of nowhere, late nights that never affected his sleep schedule, etc.
Gus basically had a wormhole that allowed him to be wherever the plot needed on a moments notice. >Hey how come the chicken man always travels around in Black SUVs with armed guards?? Is having a chicken restaurant really that dangerous of a business??
This dudes never actually worked in a restaurant. Owners don't give a frick. They sit in their office and do blow all day while the kitchen staff is lucky to make it through the day without getting too much blood and sweat in people's food.
reminds of that gang that sold drugs and used a pizzeria too launder the money. eventually the pizzeria became so profitable because they actually made good pizza that they just stopped selling drugs because selling pizza was just way better.
He was forced to keep doing it just as much as everyone else though, at first when working for the cartel, or they would have killed him. After he’s too far in, imagine if he wanted to stop, what about all the people he’s paying that work for him? How does he know they’ll never talk and land him in trouble, or what about them worrying about him suddenly having a change of heart. That’s one of the major themes about the show, that once you go bad there’s no turning back. Nachos whole storyline shows the results of trying to get out.
After watching BCS I realize what a legend Walt was, a mild mannered high school teacher absolutely decimated the entire drug trade business. Who was left after Walt died? Nobody. Gus and all his employees? Gone. All the Salamanca? Gone. Bolsa and his crew? Gone. All the cartel bosses? Gone. Declan and his crew? Gone. Lydia and the Madrigal crew? Gone. The white trash neonazis? Gone. Jesse? Retired.
He did more for his community in 2 years than Hank in his entire career
He just needed money but then they killed his partner and everything else his him planning revenge on salamanca. He swore he was going to kill every one of them
Yet he couldn't kill a single one apart from Lalo. Who was almost killed by random goons in Mexico anyway. Tuco and the twins were killed by Hank and Mike, and Hector killed himself and took Gus with him
Hector and don eladio were the only ones he hated. He succeeded in ruin their whole drug empire. The rest of salamancas werent there when they killed his partner, they were small fries to get to hector
Also tuco and the twins would be hard for him to kill himself, they all died because they were careless as frick not because hank is some super-human cop
Because he felt the exact same way about making meth than Walt > I did it for me. I liked it. I was good at it. And I was really, I was alive!
It’s not about the money, respect etc. It’s finding your calling and going full tilt. Sadly, many men will never experience this,
I don't know anybody else who read it this way, but first time I saw that I thought he was just lying to Skylar to let her down easy, to keep her from blaming herself
So /tv, which fast food restaurant do you think best matches the taste of what Los Pollo Hermanos would be like?
I always imagine Peruvian style chicken, but that isn't fried, I guess. What FC is there besides Popeyes and KFC?
you dont make money selling people chicken for ten bucks a bag. even mcdonalds makes their nut on real estate appreciation and rent, not on the goyslop they put in that bag of yours.
its all a scheme. when you go to almost any firm don't be fooled, the actual business they are running is not what you're seeing. they just need an ostensible purpose for existing and generating enough cash flow to run whatever scheme it is they are actually running. when you boil it down every business in this country that isnt floundering is either a bookie, bank or landlord. zero exceptions.
I don’t understand why Gus would be in the drug trade because he doesn’t look like he does anything with the money and still works as a manager at a fast food chain. why out yourself in a compromised legal and safety position for shits and gigs?
Never made much sense to me why he didn't just run a legit business and not even bother with the drugs.
low testosterone cucks
he enjoyed power as well as immense wealth. why is that so difficult to understand
>immense power
To do what with? He couldn’t even have romance
>immense wealth
Yet he lives in a normal upper middle class lifestyle
>He couldn’t even have romance
He could, remember the scene at the winery? but instead he choose to pursue the revenge of his dead oneitis.
Because he either used the drug money to buy the resturant or he invested everything in it from money he owned loan sharks so he needed to be a respected drug lord to not be bullied around by the criminals
he did run a legit business, but meth production allowed him to make at least 10x more money than that legit business
he wouldnt have been able to get his revenge
Gus stayed in the game to get his revenge on Eladio and Salamanca for killing Max. It wasn't necessarily about the money for him
They literally already ran a fried chicken restaurant when they proposed selling meth through the cartel.
He's a psychopath
Revenge

Are you guys moronic? As a fast food manager you are making 100k at most. If you are the founder. Maybe bump that up to 500k a year.
Only CEOs of investment banks are taking in millions. As a drug dealer he was making tens of millions each year
Store managers make way less than 100k. Founder or owner makes bank though, definitely not just 500k for a decent chain restaurant
McDonald's owners make over a million dollars a month anon and he owned like 20 stores or whatever I don't remember I dropped this snooze fest of a show after season 3

He was a drug lord so American chuds could experience quality chicken. Surely the patriot of our times.
You can't get out of the cartel just like that.
Empire business
What the frick did he even spend any money on?
Revenge.
Just wait until we get his entire backstory in the next spin off prequel, "The Chicken Brothers"
No doubt vince will cash in on the gayshit. Total hack.
>he should've made 30x less money because uhh...he just should have
what did he need the money for? he didn't have a family
So was he just pretending he had a family when Walt came over?
Yes
moron
Black person
He could afford his soulless boring house and more with los pollos alone. Why did he want that much money anyway? He lived alone and didn't do much. He was a respected member of the community, friend of the cops, etc. Was it...his ego?
He was funding a village in mexico
>uhh...he just should have
Or because it got him killed. Are you moronic?
He did not seem to have a very luxurious life.
He lived in a medium sized house and never seemed to travel around.
My guess is the only reason he kept going was to get back at Hector
Because he'd still be alive kek
Would he? You can't just leave the cartel, y'know?

He ran an entire franchise
That's why you just pay some manager to run it for you.
reminds of that gang that sold drugs and used a pizzeria too launder the money. eventually the pizzeria became so profitable because they actually made good pizza that they just stopped selling drugs because selling pizza was just way better.

He planned to actually quit the drug business once he killed the cartel, but Walter fricked it up.
Ya that's why he built the lab. To quit the biz.
He was gonna concert it into a chicken slaughterhouse. Pay attention to the plot dumbass. He even told lalo
I thought it was to steal the drug trade away from the cartel. Make them lose funds and that that was why he went to such lengths to keep it a secret.
are you moronic?
He was frying a meat that is best served cold.... CHICKEN REVENGIES

He broke baddies
The nazis were so hamfisted tho cause otherwise Walt was a total romper stomper lol
Gus killed the entire cartel tbf. Walt just killed gus
And shortly after the market was flooded with poor quality shit as every low level player came in to fill the vacuum
a 40 year old Avon Barksdale, fresh from Prison, moved in.
now that's a crossover i would like to see.
It was all to get revenge for his gay lover
He just needed money but then they killed his partner and everything else his him planning revenge on salamanca. He swore he was going to kill every one of them

>she should just take her salary and not do insider trading
fried chieken isn't even that good, what's the appeal
It's Fring chicken
He could've shot shot Hector in the head and himself, but noooo, he HAD to take revenge like a goddamn cartoon villain

check out the S&P500 and get back to me
oh im sorry I forgot pimp.
He should have just accepted the job with full medical coverage no drugs shit
he probably wasn't even breaking even with chicken
Only because Mike kept insisting on military-grade solidity
Food service is unironically worse than dealing drugs, especially FRIED CHICKEN for obvious reasons.
DING DING DING DING DING
HAAAAAAAAAW
The chicken business was his laundering scheme. It may not have even been profitable without the drugs.
So /tv, which fast food restaurant do you think best matches the taste of what Los Pollo Hermanos would be like?
I only know of KFC
I don’t understand why Gus would be in the drug trade because he doesn’t look like he does anything with the money and still works as a manager at a fast food chain. why out yourself in a compromised legal and safety position for shits and gigs?
I WANT TO SEE DA BOSS
DA BOSS CAN CHUCK ME
He is what he is.
Because he was a prideful sociopath and the closest character to Walt in this regard.
He did nothing wrong btw
it's not about selling chicken, it's about sending a message
