It's all so disappointingly boring and badly drawn. Every time I want to check young Hellboy the art makes me put it down.

Mignola has been too lazy to make comics a long time now. He checked out like two decades ago barring Hellboy in Hell. The extended universe stuff or the “franchising” for lack of a better word like it’s Batman SUCKS. In my ideal world Mignola would’ve done all the Hellboy stuff and Guy Davis would’ve done all the art for BPRD and also the ending of that not be rushed.

I understand your point, but Duncan Fegredo

Fredrego was the superior Hellboy artist, and it wasn't close.
Hellboy BPRD is the most disappointing ending to a comic run that I've ever experienced. It;s somehow even worse than Vagabond.

Fegredo never came off as anything but imitation Mignola. It was fine for spin offs but it wasn't amazing.

He's inferior in every way as a storyteller and cartoonist and lacks the sense of atmosphere and mood that Mignola has. He only able to imitate the heavy shadows and shapes of characters, he then just adds lots of extra rendering and details the cleaner and more iconic Mignola wouldn't. He's in every way a more generic and less interesting artist as shown by how much of his career is spend imitating a more successful man.

No. Like I said before, he's great and very technically skilled, but has little of what made Hellboy truly great like prime Mignola did.

I vastly prefer prime Mignola to Fegredo.
Don't get me wrong, Fegredo is a great artist, but he never captured the look Mignola had achieved.

Suit yourself, but it was nice to have an artist who could draw demons and monsters, AND actually draw stuff that wasn't demons and monsters.
And whether it was writing duties or what (he had no reall deadline), Mignola was prone to lazy art, where F gave 100%.

From what I understand the world(of men) did end but not in the way Ogdru Jahad wanted, Humanity may survive underground on Shambhala.

everything went according to the prophecy, Ogdru Hem had their time on Earth, Hellboy's Hand brought the Dragon to Earth, the world was burnt to cinder, and from the ashes a new race of men arose.

I think the idea is that this is a cycle of events that never end. The Ogdru Jahad cycle might not have even been the first. But it all starts again with the frogmen, who become the new "humans".

I'm half and half on it. It do like that Mignola ending up playing things straight. On the other hand, it really fricks with the entire point of Hellboy's character as denying his demon nature/prophecy/fate/etc.
Also, just rushing it because he got tired of Hellboy felt like shit. Doubly shit when not a week later the homosexual is all "actually, now I kinda want to do some world of frogmen stories teehee".

seems you fricking missed the point where his relentless denial of fate altered it to frick and back, allowing everything to come to semi-closure as much as the universe could allow. You expected him to pull a DBZ fight against Ogdru Jahad? Varvara tried and Johann did. But that was about as much as was possible in that setting, everything was fated to play out eventually. Hellboy changed most o the details though, denying Rasputin and - presumably - Ereshkigal their total annihilation of humanity and Vril.

Idk if those anons are missing the point so much as the appeal of Hellboy is contradicted by that ending. Sure he changed the details, but he succumbed to destiny still. The Death Card is just flat out a better ending for the character.

I didn't expect a big DBZ fight but I expected a proper rejection of destiny for the sake of humanity. Which was the whole point of the character. I don't have a better idea. I'm not a writer. But it still bites that it all ended up just being frogs. This is why Hellboy in Hell worked as a closure.
