If you know the Wesker character you'd know it isn't ridiculous at all. Yes the skin color is wrong but he's exactly the kind of actor who can pull of the kind of presence Wesker has in the games.

Looks nothing like Wesker. They are trying to play the "blind casting" angle but we all know they would never dare cast a white man as a black character. Wesker is the bad guy too so it's really puzzling why they didn't go with a white person.
Wesker is universally considered to be one of the coolest bad guys in game history, so it's alright.

There's never been a good screen adaptation of the RE franchise so I will just ignore it.
That said I'm looking for more films that have that "survival horror" feel to them like the old games used to. I just watch The Void (2016) recently and really enjoyed that. Anyone got more recs along those lines?

Whether we wanted it or not, we've stepped into a war with S.T.A.R.S. in Racoon City. So let's get to taking out their command, one by one. Chris Redfield. From what I can gather he commands S.T.A.R.S. from a helicopter outside of the Spencer Mansion. He's well protected, but with the right team, we can punch through those defenses, take this beast out, and break their grip on Umbrella.
The movie has nothing to do with the games. Albert Wesker is like 80% his looks 20% what he actually does.
Why not just make a new character?
Resident evil has never been successfully translated from the game to a movie or show and it never will be. The first game unironically has a great story and great potential for translation, but good filmmakers snub video games as a valid storytelling medium.
The entire resident evil series from 1-6 makes a lot of sense but there was too much time between releases. it progresses from a survival horror game at ground zero to a shooter/war game during the global viral outbreak. It actually gets hate for that.
