i think it's the same brain worms that happens in fighting games where they have to like come up with a plot reason for the fights and for the match ups to be "fair" and not just letting it be a game.

Nothing wrong with reusing a working system. RNG in a strategic game feels like a bad mix. Hard to plan when your load out is random.
