in the opening he is trying to get her to run and she KEEPS stopping because of the kid and that is what causes her to be trapped in the room with the infected inbetween her and her husband.
the husband is NOT a superhero, he's not muscular or a trained fighter, and the infected will literally beat you so hard that you die, he has NO CHANCE of saving her in that situation, so he either dies there with her and some random kid who caused all of this, or he tries to survive so that he might find his actual children
