probably even these 5 minutes were tough for him
val even had spoken lines and given his condition...

bro, he can barely utter words. what do you want him to do in the movie? It was a very nice gesture of Cruise to even bring him in the movie.

it seems like his cancer is in remission but his throat is permenantly fricked up from the surgery and treatment.

Val Kilmer got all fricked up from throat cancer

its more the making his character die in the movie from throat cancer instead of having it be in remission or something that i find strange

I know he made some documentary about his life now but I didn't watch it. Is he still symptomatic? Maybe that short scene is all he could handle and he knew it.

He begged them and is honest about in interviews. His presence is actually felt throughout the movie as a guardian angel with the power and influence to save Mavericks career on a weekly basis. His scene was also unbelievably kino and emotive as frick.

Both Maverick and Iceman were amazing examples of doing grown matured characters right. Very believable.

Him dying actually made the stakes for maverick higher and real, apparently he kept fricking up but iceman kept believing in him and kept him from becominga a wingless jobless loser. Him dying is the moment maverick actually realized that he can't continue fricking up aka running away and has to confront his past and let it go thus believing in rooster. His death makes this choice a lot stronger instead if iceman living because it was his dying wish for maverick to pull his shit together.

the Val Kilmer doc where he reflects on his life is kino. seeing that, you know he was absolutely fine with doing it and it was probably his idea.

The plot required Maverick to not have his protection anymore. Tom is the one who personally got him on the cast. He wouldn't have planned it that way without Val's approval.

I really like the idea that Iceman is a 4 star general and just having to keep Mav from getting court martialed every couple of months because he pulled his ass out of the fire in the 1st movie.

Why does he look so weird now, kind of like his face got fricked up the same way Ebert's did. But Ebert had jaw cancer or someshit and Val has throat cancer, so why is his face also affected?

        >he even had the ebert jacket/scarf combo in the movie

That's because he's had a permanent tracheotomy, people don't really like showing that off even before the nerve damage messes up their necks/face

Your face works because of a complicated network of nerves and muscles. If any of them get fricked you are now a creature.

Kilmer is surprisingly self-aware of his situation. You should watch the documentary ‘Val’, it provides insight into what would have convinced to return to his role this way (hell he may have asked for his character to be killed off).
