There was no orgy scene and he was just hallucinating because he breathed in the drug. That means whatever happened during those scenes didn't matter to the story.

      Update:
      It's now Rambo IV.
I'm not entirely sure what the point of the film was, but it was an impressive panorama of splatter and death by the end. The ending feels like a proper close to the character, and I have heard the fifth film is junk, so I will be leaving it here. First Blood is obviously by far the best of the films, but the others are entertaining for what they are.

Watched it because someone on here said it wasn't as bad as people said, and I thought the girl in it was cute. Turns out it is as bad as people say. Terrible performances, terrible casting, bad pacing and script, often mediocre CGI. The only praise I can give it is on style and art design (aliens, ships, uniforms); made me want to read the source material comic because its probably better than the movie.

I can tell that's horrible from the casting and it's sad that you can't. That's not even an actress and it's a model.

Because when he almost shoots him the daughter says something along the lines of "its funny how if you pull that trigger, we all die".
Also even if I'm wrong about that, I don't see how killing him would stop whatever he's cursed them with.

I don't care what some dumb b***h has to say. I'll shoot him and if it doesn't work then I'll shoot myself and maybe that'll work but I wouldn't shoot one of my kids. You still haven't said what you would do so I'm guessing you'd kill your entire family even without being cursed.

I'd shoot myself is what I'd do, but I'm not in a Yorgos Lanthimos movie. People don't act like real people in his movies.

There's obviously some deeper meaning then. I was thinking about that as soon as you mentioned the movie. I wanted to say that it's almost biblical; As if God asked a man to sacrifice one of his family and that's why he had to do it. That's about the only thing I can think of that makes sense.

                Anonymous

The story is inspired by the Greek myth of Iphigenia. But in that myth a man is told to kill his daughter, not forced to choose between the rest of his family

                Anonymous

I'm reading about it and it's very interesting. A goddess demands that you kill your daughter because you killed a "sacred stag". What a horrible goddess that is - to value an animal over a person. I'd just find a way to kill the goddess because imagine listening to a woman.

Touch of Evil. It was good, but I thought far more impressive for the technical filmmaking aspects than any particular performance or the essential drama. Then again, maybe I'm just used to that kind of bitter noir and I'm underrating it for something from 1958.

      Anonymous

no, you're absolutely right even though it's an unpopular opinion

it's generally overrated. there's a weird, small group of films that are old, very good-but-not-great, but nevertheless critical opinion of them suggests that they are near the top of the best films of all time

I'm sure I'll catch shit for it, but another very notable example of this is Night of the Hunter.

Before anyone goes and accuses me of being a zoomer or disliking old movies, I will say that two of my favorites are The Third Man (1949) and The Big Sleep (1946), and in fact 1946 was one of the best years for film of all time, if not the absolute best. Consider that all of these were released that year:

A Matter of Life and Death
      Caesar and Cleopatra
      Deception
      Gilda
      Great Expectations
      It’s a Wonderful Life
      My Darling Clementine
      Notorious
The Best Years of Our Lives
      The Big Sleep
      The Jolson Story
      The Killers
      The Postman Always Rings Twice
      The Seventh Veil

it's kind of unreal that 1946 mogs the last 5, 7, maybe even 10 years of films

    The Last Temptation of Christ
I liked it. Wasn’t really what I expected, I found myself going, “What the frick?” throughout, but I think it was a pretty good representation of what it would be like to be the son of God. I read the wiki and apparently there’s a bunch of controversy surrounding it, I didn’t think it was that offensive, but I’m not really a Christian. Overall felt like a very spiritual movie, I actually felt emotions while watching it, which is more than I can say about a lot of other movies.

      Anonymous

I think the controversy stems from "humanizing" Jesus and making him fallible, which, while incredibly interesting from a secular standpoint, it blasphemous to basically any Christian denomination since Christ was / is part of God as "God the Son" and is not fallible based on scriptures or whatever. He knew what he was meant for on earth and carried out his purpose, perhaps suffering when he was being tortured and crucified, but never being tempted away from his mission like Last Temptation explores.

I think De Palma makes my favorite kind of movies. Highly technical, stylized but not overstated, and nothing fancy pants. There's something fascinating about them even though on the surface they're conventional genre films. Great flick. Classic. Underdog racing against the clock. God damn I miss the chemistry that men and women used to have on screen. Movies now are so asexual it's pathetic. I don't even think there's any sex in this movie, but like all De Palma films it feels like sex has to do with everything.

Also what a breath of fresh air to have villains that are just plain evil (based big jack) or an unstoppable primal force (the wolf).

Foxcatcher was good. Stand out performance from Steve Carell, I'd only seen in him the office before so I was impressed with him in a serious role. Channing Tatum was good too, don't think hes the most versatile actor but the role suited him well and he did a good job. The story itself is weird, the fact that its true is crazy.

The last one i sat to fully watch was Amsterdam. It actually made me cry at the end where Bale briefly imagines himself runnung carefree with his 2 friends. The movie itself felt odd at rimes, especially in the final part. But all the scenes of the three enjoying life carelessly were really nice.

Batman The Doom That Came To Gotham
Really neat concept of a Lovecraftian Batman; mediocre but not terrible execution. Better than most of the crap they put out these days, so at least it was something novel to watch.
Of course they had to make some of the mainstay characters brown, but the context actually made it work better than the typical shoehoring since none of the characters were quite themselves anyway.

Wick 4. Hadn't watched any of the other ones.
Surprisingly good dumb action flick for being the current year with scenery that actually looks high-budget. Usually when I see something that had millions to work with recently it looks like a school production but not this.
There were a few groans and laughs, you pretty much have to turn off your brain and accept that it's working on videogame or capeshit logic in the fights and Keanu can't act for shit in the first half hour but evens out later on.
It feels a bit like an older movie simply because the closest to woke-pandering it got was having a token black guy who adds nothing.
Scott Adkins in a fatsuit doing perfect roundhouse kicks with all that fat is probably the best villain i've seen on-screen in ages. Dude could easily mog the whole film if it was about him instead of Skarsgard. (not that the latter was bad he was actually above average)

It was awful. The villains were moronic and about as much CGI was used on Lucy Liu as the wood dragon, Shazam family was straight up incompetent most of the time, I think they fumble away the mcguffin like 3 times making the enemy just pick it up. The main character is so stupid he acts like a 10 year old despite the fact that he's supposed to be 17. And the cringe levels are off the charts.

The meta humor I get is part of the franchise and is okay. But not a single one of the main cast died despite being stabbed repeatedly. Only throw away side characters at the intro and the lesbian love interest who never talked got killed. EVERYONE survived, in a fricking slasher movie. What the actual frick.

Also the survival instinct was fricking where?
    >knock killer over

I think like most people I went in to it assuming that I would be on Toby's side 100% of the way, but like any good story it reminded me that nobody is a true saint and that even horrible mistakes/actions can be understandable and forgiven. Its also one of the few times that Portman didn't feel like she was sucking the energy out of every scene she's in, her and Mila Kunis have a habit of doing that.

last night i watched “My Neighbor Totoro” and it was good. not as good as “Kiki’s Delivery Service” or “Spirited Away” but i’d give it a solid 7.5/10

Checked off The Man With the Golden Gun last movie. It gets more stuff wrong then previous Bond films (especially Live and Let Die), but the highs are high enough to float this one above the average.
    Pros:
    >Christopher Lee carries this movie hard
    >Brilliant villain lair (funhouse is indeed pretty fun)
    >Nick Nack is a great henchman
    Cons:
    >No one cares about the solar power plot
    >butthole Bond doesn't work for Roger Moore, just makes it look like he has a stick up his ass for no reason
    >The whole karate sequence is moronic

The last movie I watched was Jackass Forever. I enjoyed it the way I enjoyed the original series way back then but the original crew didn't do enough of the stunts.

Glory. And it's a legit good movie, that reinforces what American culture is truly centered around.

For a membaberry crossover film, they actually did a pretty good job of having a point and purpose to the story and character usage, and giving a farewell to the previous versions. The ending was also surprisingly grim for Marvel.

    Shattering Glass

    >Based on a true story
    >Stephen Glass is a young and very successful journalist
    >He writes for the New Republic, very prestigious
    >His stories and scoops are amazing
    >A journo working for Forbes discovers some inconsistencies in one of Stephens stories about a teenager hacking into a multi billion dollar company and getting hired by the same company for it
    >Forbes journo starts to dig a little
    >Turns Stephen made the whole thing up
    >As a matter of fact, he made most of his stories up

Was a great watch, Hayden Christiensen is very underrated as an actor

    The Virgin Suicides
Probably the best depiction of Teenage Angst this side of Neon Genesis Evangelion

I watched Scream (1996) last night. It was just as good, if not better, than the last dozen times I watched it. The editing in that movie is pure music.

Notorious; Hitchwiener was the man. Cool seeing Cary Grant play a less likeable character, sort of like Henry Fonda in Fort Apache (leaving aside OUATITW) was pretty interesting. Gorgeous looking film, and Hitchwiener was more brilliant at either making a romance film that you don't even realize is a romance because of the thriller aspects of it and making the romance the most exciting part of a thriller/action/suspense movie than any director since.

The Witch: Part One is free on Prime.

It's literally John Wick meets dragonball but the sheep here won't watch it because it hasn't been shilled to them yet by israelites. This is a fact.
Years from now when it is adapted for western audiences people on this board will lie and say they watched this movie before it was cool.

John Wick 4. It was garbage. I only watched it because I went out with a bunch of mates from high school and they love those kinds of movies. Can't understand what's so interesting about 2hr30min of non stop fighting again and again and again - most of it is the same moves anyway.

At least when I was watching stuff like fast and furious I could laugh at how over the top moronic it is - this was just boring.

Red Dawn Remake. did they edit a lot of the movie out? it ends really abruptly.

The remake originally had Chinese invading instead of Russians. Then mid production they changed it to North Koreans invading and had to edit huge amounts.
