I love Hideo, even if he's become a narcissist after buying into his own hype. He's such a sincere artist and his love of things feel pure.

He has very simplistic tastes it basically boils down to movies with ghosts or movies where the director does something they aren't known for

Yeah honestly for a guy who presumably watches movie all the time i don't know why he picked such basic movies. And basic movies from his own country.
It's not like Criterion has to many non-mainstream classic Japanese movies but still

imo people that have seen thousands of films tend to have sentimental favorites, not elite ones

To be fair most of these picks videos from other people are as equally basic.

Lol I watched that a week ago. I enjoyed the cinematography and aesthetic but the plot was stupid

High and Low is literally a movie about rival shoemakers trying to kill each other. It was so boring

He plays it pretty safe with these picks but I do like how enthusiastic he is.

this. You can tell that Kojima genuinely loves cinema and isnt just picking the most pseud picks he can. Also supported by the fact that all of his picks are japanese. The guy has an infectious enthusiasm, its easy to see why he is a good project manager/game designer.

Okay let's hear it. What would YOUR closet picks be?

I don't even understand the question. Don't they already have a list in mind and the whole video is staged?

Yes, and they probably already own all the movies they pick. That's not the point. The point is to show people movies you think deserve attention.

Kojima will always be based for making a version of Blade Runner that doesn't suck ass

A very pedestrian selection. There's no individuality on display here, which I guess is expected from a man who has only ever made "homage" works.
