      >Chevalier de Saint-Georges (December 25, 1745 – June 10, 1799), was a French Creole virtuoso violinist, conductor of the leading symphony orchestra and classical composer in Paris. He was born in the then French colony of Guadeloupe as the son of Georges de Bologne Saint-Georges, a wealthy married planter, and an enslaved African woman.

    >Inspired by the incredible true story of composer Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges. The illegitimate son of an African slave and a French plantation owner, Bologne (Kelvin Harrison Jr. in a tour de force performance) rises to improbable heights in French society as a celebrated violinist-composer and fencer, complete with an ill-fated love affair and a falling out with Marie Antoinette (Lucy Boynton) and her court.

its not that weird, anon. look at cowboys. today they are romanced as some sort of mythological figure. in reality cowboy was the shittiest, lowest tier job and if you look at the records you see tons of chinese and black people in it...because it was like being a janitor, or a fastfood cashier. if you drew breath, you qualified, congratulations, the job is yours.
remember that movie about the "black women behind the moon launch"? also true. doing the menial maths so that scientists could do actual maths was a real profession.

honestly ive just been jumping between like 6 threads making trivially drawn out arguments for fun. your exactly right, the cowboy comparison dosent actually explain anything, its just an argument i made in bad faith in some other thread im reusing here because it seemed tangentially related, and it worked, kinda.

How Black was he actually? Is it possible his mother was mixed herself? She was a 16 year old servant of his father's wife. Regardless, what is the implication here? That Europeans mixing with Sub-Saharan Africans has no consequences (aside from the obvious erasure of the original genetic stock)?

My mom is a pianist and I remember her talking about this guy a few years ago. She said he was a curiosity for the time that didn't really have any lasting impact on the music scene and the only thing he is remembered by is being the only black classical musician. Only people interested in music history even know about him, and he isn't some forgotten genius, he was just ok. He was just a random composer that only people with a degree in music history know about.

      >why do white people treat mixed people as black?
I mostly see blacks doing this. Besides, it's north american thing. Nobody else cares that much about it.

It's sort of like being retarded.

      >why do white people treat mixed people as black?
Because they want to be treated as black. There's zero advantage to being white in western countries anymore. I'm 1/4 black but due to my genetics I look at least half black. If I put down "African American" on a grant for education or a corporate job application, I will get more consideration than other full on white people for those things. It's just a fact.

So tired of this shit. Basically the same thing as invisible women or whatever the blacks who worked for NASA as human computers. This guy was only famous for being black, his music wasn't groundbreaking yet this movie will portray him as the greatest composer of all time probably will have Mozart or someone who steals his ideas and how oppressed he was. Despite dude being a composer in France this movie will no doubt be full of modern American politics. Probably going to have a Donald Trump like antagonist.
