Opie had plenty of moments where he was legitimately funny dude. He also played his part when it came to guests and the “shock jock” shit well enough.

The fact that no one on the show has even a fraction of the success outside of it is proof that it wasn’t as simple as “Opie is the problem.” Jim & Sam is unlistenable garbage and Anthony - appearing as one of the most talented broadcast entertainers of his generation - sounds like a homeless schizophrenic on his own show.

Anthony would have made it without Opie. Opie should suck Anthony's balls every night. Without him, he would be a nobody doing radio in fricking Alaska.

Jim and Sam suck balls. I agree. BUT Anthony's show with Gavin is fricking good. And with Artie, it was fricking amazing.

he was like 3/10 for jokes or conversation but he was actually pretty good at the hacky radio stunts that him and Ant always goofed on.
For instance one time they have some dumb pornstar bawd in the studio and he got the idea to have bobo, david, and patti play an improv game with her fat breasts. Which was the highlight of the segment considering I don't remember anything else from that show.

if you want to hear Opie at his worst, listen to the clip of Ant and Patrice making fun of Wesley Snipes in jail. Opie cuts them off at the end and says they need to move on, and Patrice goes "cmon man you can't just end it like that" and Opie says in a very sing songy, effeminate voice that the bit is over and that's all they should do on the topic.

At this point can’t we agree that they needed each other? Individually and even in pairs they’re all unlistenable but somehow they found lightning in a bottle with O&A. If Anthony and Jimmy had a show it might have worked. But Opie was just millionaire board operator.

      Anonymous

I certainly agree with that. What they didn't need was the celebrity guests. Sure, some were entertaining, but most were awfully boring. Nothing better than a cozy low-staff show where they talk on news stories or certain subject for a long time. Having some idiot come in to promote their shitty new movie or book broke up all the fun.

Ant needed other comedians who weren't politically motivated homosexuals in the room with him, but that doesn't mean he needed Opie.

      Anonymous

The problem Ant and Jim had was having the responsibility to structure their shows. Opie, and I think more importantly the shows crew, took care of that. Anthony and Jim were usually up front about not reading up for shit to talk about on the show or doing anything really until the On Air light came on.
Opie did it but someone else could have in his place. But Anthony being the boss of his own show left it no chance. None of his producers have any control or input.
J&S is better ran, it's just that they're so fricking boring.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Harry Hater. The humor is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical radio broadcasting most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Harry's simplistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterization - his personal philosophy draws heavily from Brother Wease sound drops, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realize that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Harry Hater truly ARE idiots - of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humor in Harry's facetious catchphrase "I Can't Get Enough Of My Sugary Drinks," which itself is a cryptic reference to Norton's comedic epic Monster Rain. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Gregg Hughes' genius unfolds itself on their computer screens. What fools... how I pity them. And yes by the way, I DO have a Harry Hater tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only - And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.

Opie was everything cringe about the show
    >taking listener calls
    >inviting strippers and pornstars to talk on the radio
    >hack radio "bits" that even if they worked visually would still have been total cringe and doesn't work on radio
    >making obviously fake drama between himself an other stations for no reason
    >constantly obsessing over yet another hack Howard Stern
    >always bringing up how long he's been in "radio" but only as a cringy hack shock jock that has fart sound buttons
    >very obviously autistic and didn't understand most of the jokes so would either make an irrelevant comment or over-explain it
    >would always kill a laughter session by trying to make his own jokes that bombed
    >thought he was some sort of god to the interns and treated people like shit for no reason
The only reason I listened to it was for Anthony bouncing off of a guest comedian. Jimmy wasn't funny either, his whole thing was that he was a deviant, degenerate waste of flesh.
