HOLLANDBROS...

>The industry hasn’t fostered the kind of next-gen male movie star who could follow in the footsteps of Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Cruise, but Timothée Chalamet and Glen Powell of “Anyone but You” have emerged as the two actors who could fill that chasm. Though Tom Holland’s asking price has leaped considerably after the undeniable smash of 2021’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” the 27-year-old has yet to consistently prove himself as a draw outside of playing Peter Parker.

Considering that they’re ignoring many of Chalamet’s other movies (like Bones and All, for instance), this definitely feels like spin.
Everyone loves Willy Wonka as a property and Dune had an all-star cast beyond Chalamet

Too early to say. He's too millennial for boomers, and too boomer-ish for zoomers ("corny", likes Americana when zooms are wannabe globalists.) The problem isn't just Hollywood dying, but America itself is being forced to change drastically/die.

I wasn't going to read this thread, but the mention of Glen Powell made me enter it because he's weirdly charismatic. I've seen him in smaller parts in 3 things, some of them shitty, and every time he's been a standout for no apparent reason, which I think is charisma.

I've apparently seen Austin Butler in 3 things (not Elvis) but only remembered him from Dune2.

What makes a "star" and what charisma is are really ephemeral concepts, but I feel like Butler is forgettable and therefore won't be a star.

        Anonymous

Glen Powell is quite literally too handsome. He's too distracting to ever be the kind of actor that melts into serious roles, he's gonna do a bunch of rom-coms for womens spank bait and fade out.
The goose has a better broad appeal, better talent and range.

          Anonymous

Goose is from an earlier generation, the question is who is going to replace him not who is better: obviously Goose is a bigger star, obviously he's charismatic.

I haven't seen Powell in anything where he wasn't meant to look like some all-american giga chad.
Half of that is makeup, half of it is literally camera work, ie. he's subject to the homosexual gaze or something, so I think he could be roughed up.

            Anonymous

His facial symmetry and teeth are so perfect he's only suited to gigachad hearthrob roles.
Take Christian Bale in something like Ford V Ferrari, there's a guy you can rough up or he can be a gigachad like in American Psycho.
Butler is probably the only promising one from the younger generation.

Pratt is on the wrong team, he's a vocal Christian, that means you're fricked in hollyweird. He was a billion dollar draw when the machine was rolling with the Guardians stuff and the bleed over appeal to Jurrasic crap, but that's gonna dry up now and you're not going to see much of him.
Also he's not a serious actor with any range.

To be fair Hollywood just constantly throws people out like they are meant to be the new "IT" person. I remember when Shaileen Woodley was the new IT person, she was going to be Mary Jane in Amazing Spider-Man movies but had all her scenes cut in 2 and then that series died. And the Divergent YA series she was in died a death too.

They push someone for a while to try and make them stick but ultimately they need to actually be in good roles. The problem is culture is so fricking bizarre that some random kid on youtube is drawing a bigger presence than any of these people ever will.

      https://www.boxofficemojo.com/year/world/?ref_=bo_nb_hm_tab

Replying to myself, because there's nobody on this site that isn't an NPC.
Watching a movie (and paying money) is voting with your wallet, so Hollywood will look at what movies make money, and then deduce an actor's popularity from those numbers. They don't actually care what the goyim have to say, when they can look at numbers.
Another number to look at besides box office, would be something like mentions on Twitter. You can figure out an actor's popularity like that too.
