The slow camera zoom as Michael is explaining his plan of how he's going to shoot Sollozzo and the cop is one of the best directed and acted scenes in cinema history.

Yeah I'm not even the biggest Godfather fan but holy shit Al Pacino's performance (in 1 and 2) might be the greatest bit of acting in anything ever

The part where Sonny just asked a question to Sollozzo and it led to all those series of bad decisions (sending in Luca Brasi to investigate, the hit on the Don) felt so overblown. It never made sense to try and assassinate the head guy if you want the family's compliance, since the fact is they already had all the politicians and such in their pockets so it was more a curiosity about Sollozzo's details instead of a real need to do business that was being refrained from.

Also didn't make sense to send Luca Brasi on a suicide mission.

Sonny doesn’t have the same connections as Vito and would’ve been completely isolated. So either he could’ve taken revenge or kept quiet, take the deal, and allow the family to make some more dough as they gradually lose power instead of getting wiped out all at once. The books go more into detail on this. Vito goes to great lengths to ensure all his contacts are passed onto Michael and the family stays strong.

The Turk wasn't going to take no for an answer. He needed all those politicians that the Don carried around in his pocket like so many nickels and dimes. Sonny tipped their hand during the meeting and showed that he was hot for the deal. Once the Don is out of the picture, Sonny, the hot head though he is, would either have to take the deal or continue going to the mattresses (remember The Turk isn't going to take no for an amswer) and likely wind up dead himself (which he did, but on Barzini's orders), giving the other five families access to the politicians. Either scenario The Turk emerges victorious. Where The Turk slipped up is trusting that Michael is just a civilian and wouldn't be motivated by revenge ("It's not personal, Sonny. It's strictly business" delivered intentionally to come across as insincere), not just because they tried to take out the old man but also because McCluskey absolutely fricks Michael's shit up when he punches him outside the hospital (this is expanded on in the book but iirc he needed multiple surgeries to repair the damage to his face and it took months to recover). He also shouldn't have set the meet in the Bronx, which was either Clemenza's or Tessio's turf, can't remember.

I should add on to this, The Turk was correct, the Don was indeed slippin'. His consigliere and heir apparent both advised him that narcotics is the thing of the future and there's a lot of money in that white powder. A lot of bloodshed could have been avoided if he had ceded political protection in the east, which he ended up doing anyway only after being shot, losing one son, a daughter-in-law he didn't even know about, and his other son lamming it in Sicily for two years.

Notice how after she reveals herself Michael immediately makes and maintains eye contact, signifying that he is in love and not merely lustful
