I was there too. Don't get me wrong the fandom was moronic but that wasn't itself the downfall of the show.

youre right but for a time I was naively hopeful

It WAS a good show that pissed things down its leg. Don't get me started on the goddamned timeskip ending designed to make sure you can't go imagining things turned out better. I don't think that was a reaction to shipping, just a stupid choice by people who should have known better.

              >time skip ending
Funny thing is there was a time skip when they first jumped in and out of tear in space. Even if Allura did come back after magic soduko you could argue it wouldn't be till years later.

The lions fricking off was moronic though

Maybe it was always mediocre and shipping was the only thing propping it up in the first place.

When they got the gig the writers planned out as far as Lotor's arc, figuring they could "wing it" after that.
Oddly enough the show turned to shit after Lotor's arc.

      Honest thought: Plans are good.

I remain amused at the segment of Cinemaphile that thinks the show's fandom evaporated overnight because "the wrong ship happened" and not because the writers fricked up literally every aspect of the ending right down to shitty "Years later" epilogues everyone hated and ignoring the "teamwork" themes in favor of having Allura display greater-than-God-level powers out of nowhere to rebuild a multiverse and promptly die.

Somehow you looked at an absolute Masterpiece of bad writing and concluded people only hated it for shipping reasons. Amazing.

the show runners and the studios heads want to do different things and go in opposite directions, this produced mixed results

Lots of potential thrown in the trash because the showrunners not only misremembered the show they watched as children but wanted to subvert expectations by rewriting core elements. There was also definitely some executive fiddling which we've never known the full extent off. Lots of rumors about what was going in the writing room.

French dubbing studio thought the ending was so bad they leaked it prematurely

    >pic
He was so hot and I'll never forgive them for crapping up such an easy story line

Nope. Dude should have been relegated to a B plot with the colony and stayed there instead of the long overdrawn clone bullshit we got. Clone never even became sentient of himself before dying and being a host for the OG Shiro's spirits (who was trapped in a lion all along somehow unbeknownst to Keith?)

    >For literal decades WEP has been trying to make Voltron relevant again
    >Movie in development hell
    >Third Dimension and Force cancelled within a season, Dracotron's toys not even coming out and Force's line being scrapped entirely
    >Devil's Due comics were actually pretty decent but died early
    >Dynamite comic is one of the most incomprehensible edgefest messes known to man with its sole saving grace being Alex Ross covers
    >Make a Voltron series that develops a large enough fanbase to silence any complaining boomers
    >The show fricks up its last remaining seasons to the point where everyone just left and the show ends on a whimper
    >The Lion Forge comics based on this new universe are somehow equally as lame as the show
    >Universal and DreamWorks let the license expire for a movie
    >WEP is now trying to find a new partner to get the project off the ground (again)
    >Social Media and Website got rebranded and only promote the 80's show and ignoring the Dreamworks show, since Comcast lose the license
    >Voltron is back to square one

This and RWBY are the best examples of what happens when you listen to fans too much.

      This

The line between acknowledging your fanbase and kotowing to them is a bad one to cross, because you either spin your wheels going nowhere trying to impress a core group that's not gonna get any bigger like RWBY or you just end with a wet fart like Korra or you somehow manage both like Supernatural

Show unironically fell and broke it's neck post season 1 the fact that the writers were terminally online homosexuals who didn't understand good pacing and hating them forming Voltron was a problem even before the shipgays blackmailed the show and caused massive rewrites and production problems.

Started out promising, but lost potential as time passed.
That and a lot of other needless bullshit and a horrible pacing.
Should've had more episodes per season to flesh out stuff...and removed some stupid needless bullshit.
