Yes. The Indian 7/11 clerk right by my apartment looks/sounds exactly like Apu.
The problem with Indians is they have the unfortunate mixture of black aggression and Asian awkwardness, which leads to them being incredibly thin skinned.
He's not over the top racist but he's the general posterchild of all indian stereotypes in the industry so it makes sense to go for him.
The fact is Apu is kind of a lame loser in the show even if he has some high accomplishments but that is like homer having been in space. Doesn't change the overall picture.
Indians are basically seen as the Milhouse of races
idk man remember the whole bachelor orphan bit, Apu is far from being a loser, he just has flaws life everyone else. I'll agree he was a stereotype, but almost every character on that show is a stereotype of some kind. At it's core Simpsons is just a show about stereotypes interacting with each other
I guess Homer is supposed to be cool, but he's a White boomer dad. He's a weak father and unhealthy. Disgusting loser. Look how many shows have those types of dads. Every White tv dad is a fricking loser. All this dude can see is Apu is a joke and not that everyone in the show is a joke.
>The fact is Apu is kind of a lame loser in the show
Aside from Apu being cheap, Apu is generally the voice of reason, is shown to be hardworking, and smart. If the show came out now, some /misc/ folks would be saying Apu is written as a DEI fantasy character.

Ok. Would you honestly and whole heartly say you envy apu as a person? Would you honestly say you would like to be like Apu? Not what he has just the way he is? Would you say that type of person is cool?
Im just saying. Go to an american and tell them theyre like homer. They will say hell yeah because homer is loveable and has some good traits. Go to a scot and tell them theyre like Willy theyll say hell yeah because despite everything he still has those qualities you can lowkey admire. Every race with the "drunk moron" stereotype is proud of it because they know its lowkey cooler than nothing.
Now go to an indian and tell them theyre like Apu. See where that gets ya

i don't know, where will that get me? are you a jeet? or have you talked to one and are speaking from experience? you still haven't pointed out in this entire thread what's so bad about apu

Apu is a much kinder depiction of indians than they deserve.

exactly, all the negative stereotypes of apu are true but none of the positive stereotypes are
This documentary is the epitome of the millennial generation. All their fricking whining and revolutionary role-playing and all they accomplish is demanding more minorities in mass media
It's because they're all fed romanticized bullshit from day 1 in school about the "heroes" of the past like the suffragettes and the allies and the civil rights movement and all that bollocks so when they grow up they want to live under some romantic fantasy of fighting the power themselves but they're also conditioned by their phones and media to be consoomers and narcissists so they can't comprehend actually fighting, literally fighting in real life, for a cause and their brain just lazily filters their idealistic impulses into doing shit for clicks and likes on screens they're permanently fixated on
>Apu as a character makes little sense he has a PhD in computer science but works in a 7/11
It makes a ton of sense. +90% of Indian university and advanced degrees are worthless - they're earned by cheating, fraud, etc. or are plain fakes.
I mean that was the joke, how he was ridiculously hardworking but the immigration in america is so dysfunctional he had to run a shitty kwik-e-mart.
Remember this was before HB1 visas etc
As an Indian, I can tell you that I was humiliated in school countless times by people doing Apu impressions. I’ve been hearing “Thank you, come again” in my head nonstop since I was a boy. I have seen about 12 therapists and thought about killing myself many times, sir. The worst part about it is that I’m still often humiliated because I currently work at a gas station in order to pay my way through technical school. I will never be free all thanks to The Simpsons.
>the problem with Apu
there IS no problem
oh boo hoo indian guy is not voiced by an indian guy
who cares?
is anyone upset that Bart is not voiced by a real life little boy? He's voiced by a woman, now that could be made sexist or transphobic if you really put some elbow grease into it! Characters are not their voice actors. Voices are just voices
Imagine some Scottish failed stand-up comedian making an entire documentary about Groundskeeper Willy where he seethes for two hours about how he got made fun of as a child.
It'd make him seem like a total pussy, wouldn't it?
>here’s a beloved tv Indian character, also a stereotype in every positive light >but he’s bad now mkay >suddenly Indian hate skyrockets
Fine by me. I was already a racist.
honestly indians were really on a roll early 2000's when the brits were making all the movies and films where they were charming and hardworking, and people were talking about going to india on spiritual journeys and shit.
But now they have the internet and we have to work with them so their reputation went to shit.
I remember seeing a clip I forget if it was from the trailer of this, where they were interviewing people about apus accent and indians were saying they sound nothing like him and that his accent is a stereotype and racist, while they sounded identical to apu, it was hilarious.
Sort of. The actual answer is that the problem was never Apu, it was just that there weren't a lot of Indians on American TV at the time. We've got a ton of Italians on TV for example, so the guido stereotypes don't actually influence how people see Italians in real life too much. But in the 90's a lot of Americans just plain didn't know much about India or Indian culture, so Apu was their main reference point. I can see how that would be kinda tough for an Indian kid growing up at the time.
But Apu as a character? No, there's nothing wrong with him. The main stereotype he embodies is "insanely hard working immigrant", he's a goofy, exaggerated character but not a negative one.
Look, I'm not an SJW or anything, but simply retiring the character of Apu is not enough to heal the decades long wounds wrought by the character and its brownface performer. Hank Azaria and Matt Groening and Fox have brought in millions of dollars based solely on the suffering on Indian American children. Not only should they be forced to give all of that money to the people who they victimized with their horrific racist iconography, they should be made to feel the suffering they inflicted.
It is my recommendation that Azaria et al. should be publicly humiliated in some form. I would suggest that they have to work at least 30 years (or whatever the length the Sneedsons has been on the air) at a 711 with people mocking them during this time. They must understand the pain they caused, and the only way to do that is to experience that same pain. Make no mistake, these people are colonizers and charlatans and wicked individuals. They cannot be allowed to prosper, it is an affront to God Himself.
This is a good start, but it doesn't go far enough. Hari Kondabolu still doesn't have his own show. He should be granted a showrunner job at the Simpsons and full creative control to ensure that it is funny and also ethically sound.
he was 'correct' but the stakes are so fricking minor that it doesn't matter whatsoever and he ruined the entire image of indians for no reason
now everybody knows they're disgusting smelly shiteaters and rightfully hate them for who they are, rather than a fun, quirky little character stereotype
congratulations, you made everybody racist
Reminder that his proposal for "fixing" Apu was to make Apu the richest man in Springfield and a rival to Mr. Burns. He didn't want realistic representation of a South Asian character, he wanted a weird power fantasy.
Fine you win. I will stop making fun of Indians for having funny accents. I will now make fun of them for being low IQ street shitting scammer rapists.
This one came out of left field for me. I'm like Apu? I just never really heard any one having an issue before this guy. An Indian guy running the store isn't offensive just because it's accurate. Using old hotdogs is haha cheap ass store owner to me vs anything to do with race. Yeah thank you come again to someone is probably annoying but that's kids in school stuff. A kid with glasses will be whatever nerdy character is out at the time regardless of the rest of their appearance. Just seems like a reach from some guy no one heard of vs the normal sjw mob. If the Simpsons just ignored this it'd probably would of just faded away.
So what's this guy up to now? Being known as the guy who took Apu away I'm sure has a bright future where employers and neighbors will welcome him with open arms.
Imagine your legacy being this, when your brother's legacy is making Combination Pizza Hut and Taco Bell.
Yes. The Indian 7/11 clerk right by my apartment looks/sounds exactly like Apu.
The problem with Indians is they have the unfortunate mixture of black aggression and Asian awkwardness, which leads to them being incredibly thin skinned.
No. They have a religious tradition. It's a question of how they adhere to it.
Angry rude Indians = Angry rude whites
Considerate spiritual Indians = Considerate spiritual whites
The vast majority of Indians aren't purohits
The majority of whites aren't Billy Graham. What are you saying.
Stereotypes are still valid even if a minority of said group being stereotyped don't fit the descriptor.
the real problem is english being a global language so i have to listen to poo in the loos whining about an american cartoon from the 90s.
Honestly I can understand where he is coming from but he's still wrong.
If I was indian I would be filled with nothing but moron rage too tho
There's nothing racist about Apu he's just a cooky indian guy
He's not over the top racist but he's the general posterchild of all indian stereotypes in the industry so it makes sense to go for him.
The fact is Apu is kind of a lame loser in the show even if he has some high accomplishments but that is like homer having been in space. Doesn't change the overall picture.

He is poo.
Apu is honestly pretty quaint.
Most people today see Indians as scammers, idiots, perverts, cheap slave labor, etc.
This documentary is the epitome of the millennial generation. All their fricking whining and revolutionary role-playing and all they accomplish is demanding more minorities in mass media
generations dont exist lil buddy
that's something a millennial would say
its funny how you people have no religion anymore so now you have to use marketing labels to identify with
It's because they're all fed romanticized bullshit from day 1 in school about the "heroes" of the past like the suffragettes and the allies and the civil rights movement and all that bollocks so when they grow up they want to live under some romantic fantasy of fighting the power themselves but they're also conditioned by their phones and media to be consoomers and narcissists so they can't comprehend actually fighting, literally fighting in real life, for a cause and their brain just lazily filters their idealistic impulses into doing shit for clicks and likes on screens they're permanently fixated on
Cool man, I’m a virgo!
>that thing that i dont like is also the other thing that i dont like!
Millenials literally grew up with the Simpsons. Why would they whine about it.
Apu in the lu
but a pajeet in the streets
He reeks of shit.
SAAR
Why are indians so hell bend on convincing us that their not street shitter insectoids? Indian males are so pathetic
Apu as a character makes little sense he has a PhD in computer science but works in a 7/11?
that's how the average immigrant ends up working
you see them flipping burgers for 2 cents while having 2 PhDs
owning a convenience store as an indian immigrant is fairly cushy because they get crazy tax benefits for it
>Apu as a character makes little sense he has a PhD in computer science but works in a 7/11
It makes a ton of sense. +90% of Indian university and advanced degrees are worthless - they're earned by cheating, fraud, etc. or are plain fakes.
A medical doctor from the UK could make more money managing a Walmart in Ohio than practicing back home
I mean that was the joke, how he was ridiculously hardworking but the immigration in america is so dysfunctional he had to run a shitty kwik-e-mart.
Remember this was before HB1 visas etc
If only you knew how bad things really are.
Poojeets are subhuman. If anything Apu is portrayed as too good
People actually liked Apu
Nobody likes real life jeets
Absolutely nailed it

Thank you, come again!
If you were in school nowadays you'd hear "DO NOT REDEEM MAAM"
>the problem with Apu
there IS no problem

How about a movie called Pajeet about reacting to /misc/ posts.
The problem with TFB
Jeets exist purely for our amusement. They are a lesser race designed to entertain us.
When a jeet gets uppity it must be put down. Sad, but we can't go letting them think they're people.
>designed to entertain us.
In an inadvertent sort of way, sure... I'm never touching Bollywood though
Imagine some Scottish failed stand-up comedian making an entire documentary about Groundskeeper Willy where he seethes for two hours about how he got made fun of as a child.

You already did this raid thread like 10 hours ago. No Ivan this doesn't agitate race violence either.

Honestly, this sounds like the only reasonable way to move forward. Hank Azaria must pay for his crimes.
This is a good start, but it doesn't go far enough. Hari Kondabolu still doesn't have his own show. He should be granted a showrunner job at the Simpsons and full creative control to ensure that it is funny and also ethically sound.
Yes.
We need a new internet with jeets and pakis
>Old Stereotype
>Small retail business owner
>Responsible, hardworking member of the community
>New Stereotype
>Violent sexual predators who relentlessly harass women online
>Also they shit in the street
Things haven't gone well.
>up to this point people marginally tolerated Poos
>after this documentary comes out everyone is openly racist towards Poos
Really back fired
It's the internet. Western female YouTubers will do more harm to Indians reputations by vlogging about their experiences in India than Apu.
Does anyone have a link to this video? It seems they deleted it off their channel. Also
>Go to check their channel for video
>Uploaded 2 hours ago
>We cancelled the wedding
>Mfw
Has a vlogger relationship ever lasted?
Argie here, that dude is a scammer
