As an Indian, I can tell you that I was humiliated in school countless times by people doing Apu impressions. I’ve been hearing “Thank you, come again” in my head nonstop since I was a boy. I have seen about 12 therapists and thought about killing myself many times, sir. The worst part about it is that I’m still often humiliated because I currently work at a gas station in order to pay my way through technical school. I will never be free all thanks to The Simpsons.

I remember seeing a clip I forget if it was from the trailer of this, where they were interviewing people about apus accent and indians were saying they sound nothing like him and that his accent is a stereotype and racist, while they sounded identical to apu, it was hilarious.
Sort of. The actual answer is that the problem was never Apu, it was just that there weren't a lot of Indians on American TV at the time. We've got a ton of Italians on TV for example, so the guido stereotypes don't actually influence how people see Italians in real life too much. But in the 90's a lot of Americans just plain didn't know much about India or Indian culture, so Apu was their main reference point. I can see how that would be kinda tough for an Indian kid growing up at the time.
But Apu as a character? No, there's nothing wrong with him. The main stereotype he embodies is "insanely hard working immigrant", he's a goofy, exaggerated character but not a negative one.
Look, I'm not an SJW or anything, but simply retiring the character of Apu is not enough to heal the decades long wounds wrought by the character and its brownface performer. Hank Azaria and Matt Groening and Fox have brought in millions of dollars based solely on the suffering on Indian American children. Not only should they be forced to give all of that money to the people who they victimized with their horrific racist iconography, they should be made to feel the suffering they inflicted.
It is my recommendation that Azaria et al. should be publicly humiliated in some form. I would suggest that they have to work at least 30 years (or whatever the length the Sneedsons has been on the air) at a 711 with people mocking them during this time. They must understand the pain they caused, and the only way to do that is to experience that same pain. Make no mistake, these people are colonizers and charlatans and wicked individuals. They cannot be allowed to prosper, it is an affront to God Himself.
