Because wouldn't it have been a good way to psychologically torment Zuko? That and doesn't Ozai have a "death is the only acceptable punishment for treason" rule after Zuko's treason?
And speaking of Ozai, how come he never ordered Azula to kill Mai and Ty Lee? Did he never find out about their betrayals and/or imprisonment?
Well no character is seen being executed for treason.
Maybe it isn't really policy
Azula claimed them as rape toys.
>Azula claimed them as rape toys.
So is that why they are looking over their shoulders after she escapes from the asylum? Because they fear getting turned into her rape toys again?
Azula is an evil b***h and a killer, but she did grow up with these girls and probably feels like they are family.
>Azula is an evil b***h and a killer, but she did grow up with these girls and probably feels like they are family.
So? They committed treason by either helping people connected to Team Avatar (who are seeking her and Ozai's downfalls) or helping the person who helped Team Avatar. Or in other words, they actively want her dead or would be indifferent to it. So why would she care?
>Azula is an evil b***h and a killer, but she did grow up with these girls and probably feels like they are family.
But they don't consider her family so why doesn't she try to kill them like she tries to kill Zuko after he betrays her?
Because it's a show for small children
Wouldn't say small children, It's for the 8-12 demo.
>Because it's a show for small children

So ATLA had Aang be the last survivor of the genocide of his people, have Katara be the last survivor of the cultural genocide of her people, and had Zuko literally burned by his father.
Like I am not asking for on-screen blood and gore but it doesn't make sense that Azula, who is already implied to torture people (Iroh would rather get captured by the EK than her) and kill Aang on screen, does kill Mai and Ty Lee after they essential told her they are fine with her death and/or would kill her themselves.
In general there's a lot of people throughout ATLA who should be dead by the time the show's over, but they aren't because it's a kids' cartoon.
Like, why the frick is Hakoda still alive? He was captured IN the Fire Nation capital DURING an attempted invasion and defeat of the Fire Nation. That fricker's head should be on a pike in front of the royal palace. Yet he's alive in "The Boiling Rock."

Plot armor plus show for small children
They probably want to break him and then send him back home when he is a shell of a man in decades.
Why would they kill him?
Stalin killed millions of people, he still imprisoned other in the gulags.
kids show bud
Plot
Because Azula genuinely cares for them. Azula isn't the monster everyone thinks she is and was hurt by their betrayal
>family hates you
>friends betrayed you
>entire world wants you dead
Man, can you imagine what it felt like?
