I heard that Jay in fact did all he could to halt their production and release, but Mike and Rich outvoted him. It nearly caused them to even separate if I remember correctly. There's clearly artistic differences between the crew, so I'm sure it's a matter of time before they split.

Wrong, newfag. Jay actually wrote the entire review for Episode I. Mike had given him a "blank cheque" on the review, saying he would read whatever he wrote, and Jay took him to task, spilling his real feelings onto the page.

I watched the Phanton Menace, The Clone Wars, and The Revenge of The Sith - and they were all gems. The worst you could say is that some of the dialogue was wooden but it didn't affect the world building. I remembered why so many great Star Wars content was directly inspired by the Prequels.

The shitty little side skits where he keeps people in his basement that go on and on are terrible but the analysis is still good. If they release a director’s cut with all that extraneous shit cut out, they’d gain tens of millies of views easy. It would be the easiest money they’ve ever made.

They never said that. I remember Mike/Plinkett saying nobody spoke up because they were afraid to and that George "got rid of anyone who questioned him long ago"
                >"Midiclorians are the Force"

Yes they gained a second wave of dedicated fans from BOTW, but there's no guarantee those videos would've taken off without the traction they already had from Plinkett and it's highly unlikely they would've been in a position where they think they could make a living off such videos to begin with.

It really is quite annoying how they managed to gaslight a generation into believing the prequels were bad. The prequels were generally warmly received on release, just look at reactions from moviegoers interviews after screenings. But then RedLetterMedia spread this viral meme that Reddit of course latched onto and spread. I'm glad the sequels allowed people to re-evaluate the prequels and finally gave them the praise they deserve.

Nigga I'm a core millennial, saw the rereleases in theaters and watched the originals (not 100% which versions tbh, it was a 3 VHS box set with vader, a stormtrooper, and an imperial guard on the boxes but they lacked the rerelease additional scenes) so much the tapes quit working. Star Wars was my favorite thing in the world, I was obsessed.

I was 9 years old when the phantom menace came out and I left the theater annoyed every time Anakin was on screen but thought the lightsaber fights and Darth Maul were cool.
At 12 years old I thought Attack of the Clones was bad with some cool stuff happening but I was much more invested in EU and video game stuff at that point.
At 15, RotS was the best-made but still fucking garbage and at that point I had a more coherent idea of what made a movie good or bad. I don't agree with every point the Plinkett reviews make but I do absolutely think they get at the essence of what doesn't work about the prequels.

The idea that a generation has been "gaslit" into believing the prequels were bad is just wrong. Zoomers saw the prequels when they were toddlers and liked the lights and sounds and it stuck as positive, and it's pure nostalgia there. The OT holds up as films in a way that the prequels dont.

And the Mouse sequels being dogshit in absolutely no way vindicate George or the Prequels.

The only part of the prequel reviews I think doesn't hold up is when Mike asks his friends to describe Star Wars characters. I don't think it's wrong necessarily, but of course your friends are gonna say what you want, and if they don't you'll just edit it.

anyone who i ever see defend the prequels nowadays simply grew up with them. every time. i mean it's fine if you have nostalgia for it so watching them just makes you feel comfortable, but don't try to spin this retarded narrative of them being misunderstood genius somehow. they fail as film on almost every level

JJ cant't direct films without altering the script to shape his 'mystery box' approach to storytelling. That's why he couldn't stand george lucas' documentary approach and pressured disney to kick him off the project asap.

But really, we're having a dishonest discussion here. Mike Stoklasa wanted JJ precisely because of his approach to storytelling. He wanted Star Wars to get simpler (i.e. dumber). And JJ had a proven track record of making things dumb by the time Mike was appealing for a new director.
