It takes good directoring to get the actoring to an opulent prime.

This movie is a solid 9/10 all the way through, and then immediately becomes trash after the third chapter starts. A giant "frick you" to both the audience, the characters, and the real people the actors are portraying.
    >actually sweaty, not only was she misunderstood she was better at managing the estate than her patriarchal husband!
    >actually sweaty, the Boys Club has existed for existed for thousands of years and he wasn't mad that his wife was raped! He was only upset she was used without his permission
    Frick off.

sorry, the premise wasn't interesting to me. One case of infidelity and people are talking about it for 2.5h. Uh ok.

    OP is correct.
This is the only movie worth paying to see in cinemas in years.

It's very likely going to be remembered as the last good movie of the movie industry.
At this point the industry has fully decayed into streaming mediocrity

    Talent has been lost
costumes, stage/prop production, cinematography, extras, scope . This will be likely be one of the last movies to have these things.

It is the last of the pre-streaming services, pre-covid movie industry

And it isn't even that great a movie but it is miles better than other movies being made these days.

the script is horrible, the cinematography is bad, the pacing atrocious too, yes the battles are fine but that's it, it made 30M on a 100M budget, I think it was a wasted opportunity.

Exactly. It's just Roshomon but bad and dull and just had good battle sequences and fights that's it. The story is bad and simple plain ol' "the women were mistreated in ancient times blaaaah" and men controlled everything. And 2 PoVs of the event were the same so there was no conflict and it just became a simple good v bad movie. Fricking redditors treated it like Gladiator.

One thing that I hated about the script was the fact that the woman had her own chapter at all. On a base level, a husband believes his wife when she claims something as horrible as rape, in general throughout all of human history. Damon's character and Margarete should have been the same perspective, because he would have no reason to not believe her completely, especially considering the rapist in question is his main rival. Why does chapter 3 exist then? It only functions as a feminist brow-beating, scolding the audience for trying to decide between the men's stories, because ALL MEN are bad.

It's not 3 different stories, it's 3 different perspectives of the same thing.
The only difference is an unreliable narrator due to how each person percieved the events.

Wrong. It's two perspectives. Carrouge's side is his wife's side, since her and Le Gris were the only two people party to the incident. Margaret's side functions solely to assassinate Carrouge's character (and Le Gris to a lesser extent) for absolutely no reason other than to make a broad statement about le evil patriarchy.

And in the actual historical documents we have of this incident, there's no indication that Carrouge didn't believe his wife completely, and was willing to die to defend her honor.

Exactly mah man. I was thinking the same during the chapter and thought if they were gonna show a chapter 3 then maybe make it interesting by showing that no rape happened and instead she voluntarily did it ??? Or nothing happened and she is just saying it to gain some political advantage. But nope.

It would have been good if they had conflicting POVs instead of just confirming that the SA/rape happened.

Wasn't long enough. Needed a fourth chapter where damon tells his wife to say driver raped her so he can steal driver's lands
we could call the chapter "history"

I'm almost certain that she lied with the intention of either ridding herself of her husband or of regaining her childhood home, which we see her enjoying with her own child at the end. Either way, there's no way she didn't lie in order to set the men against each other. In fact, I'd be amazed if this wasn't made explicit in the original script before the producers got their hands on it.

She didn't lie, her testimony was proven true by the duel.

Looks like England passing for France. Toldya Adam Driver does the best "sex" scenes in terms of plot points. Nobody has his hulking dynamism.

my favorite part is that even in Le Gris's side of the story he still definitely raped her but it was just a little bit less forceful and violent

no in le gris side of the story she did obvious things to indicate that she wanted it and indicate that her protestations were not sincere.

I can't remember exactly but details like looking behind to check that le gris was coming after her and her verbal protestations being more coy.

Ladies in those days would verbally say "no" because that was expected of them as ladies even when they didn't mean it.
