How come when I sometimes see a LGBT character in a DC/Marvel comic it feels like I am being slapped in the face with shitty pandering?
Its like they can't realize that you write LGBT characters the same way you'd write any other character. They just make their sexual preference the character's ENTIRE personality for no reason.
So fricking annoying.

I've read thousands of fanfics, hundreds of fics that take place specifically in DC /Marvel fandoms. They'll have LGBT characters and not once does it feel like some sort of moronic agenda is being pushed upon me, nor does it feel like cheap pandering that borders on insulting at times.

Why can fans writing stories for free as a hobby be more genuine than 'professional' writers paid to pump out official stuff?!

people can tell when things are inauthentic and it causes anger. its a common response. There are movies and shows woth black or female leads but the story or elements if the setting are cool so you really don't even care that they're gay black or female. Its when thats all they are and its being shoved down your throat that it becomes insulting and annoying. Love Blade, Alien was great with Ripley. Nowadays they would make sure you knew that them being minorities or whatever was all they were.
And thank God for fans who produce great fan fiction content and fanart.

common thing in media and abroad, new thing is in vogue and must be present, (gay, straight, black, white, disabled, Republican, Christian, Muslim, israeli, Atheist, etc), funding/backing depends/supports this currently
so take original/rehash of old story, select random/primary character, MAKE them black, gay, muslim, etc...
add pages and scenes to showcase their BLACKNESS< GAYNESS Religion, politics, gender, etc
create new characters just to allow a verbal punchline, good character model story, etc to go off/often using established characters in ways they never indicated they'd act
over-do it with the (insert here), don't actually make them act/react/exist as a (insert here), just as a old school reporter feed caricature of (insert here)
now remember to repeatedly insert jabs of them being (insert here), even if it would never occur like that naturally in explosive situations/slow days
also the ENTIRE personality being that they are (insert here) happens ALOT in modern society, gotta get those likes, feel good, victim hood, etc

Karen/Ken behavior seems to follow this trope, as well as the people purposefully baiting them to act out/pull a gun/try to defend themselves(and failing in the edits)

I think a lot of the problem, at least IMO, is that back then black/women/gay characters used to to have actual personalities and usually felt like people.
Meanwhile these days these same characters basically have zero personality beyond "I AM BLACK, I AM A WOMAN, I LIKE TAKING IT UP MY ASS."

The fact that one of his older stories was about his teammates mistakenly thinking he was gay and he actually wasn't, in what was meant to be a lesson to readers to not assume guys are gay if they're not stereotypically masculine enough, it makes "oh he was actually gay anyway" a really stupidly tone-deaf thing to have done.

        Anonymous

Thats the answer to your own question. Treating a passion project with love vs. getting paid to write characters you either don't care about or want to make into your own OC. Most of the time fan fic writers respect the characters and love them. They even mark OOC or crack when not writing the characters with their usual personalities. I even read a fic probably written by a gay person about a hero who realistically dealt with their feelings of 'homophobia' because they were straight but liked their friend of the same sex. It wasn't preachy it was a characters real struggle to reconcile their feelings of disgust with their feelings of deep care about the person they liked. They respect the source enough and try to make some compelling stories. Even shut is well written and characters driven kek

Because being gay is never relevant to any story outside of a single issue where they do the coming out of the closet fetish gays love so much.

Dunno but 2000's queer rep just hit different and felt more authentic and real than the current queer rep from the big two.

Having your queer couple start off as closeted best buddies with gay subtext then it actually evolves into a romantic thing was great for the characters than just "I'M OUT NOW, NO BUILD UP OR SERIOUS SELF REALIZATION, LETS MAKE OUT." And worst it's with some rando oc and not with another character they had a strong history with.

Literally just write them how you'd write any other character.

      >Dunno but 2000's queer rep just hit different and felt more authentic and real than the current queer rep from the big two.

The only difference is that you could maybe show them kiss and that was about as far as it could go. Otherwise you couldn't talk about it at all.

I.e. all this "it was better when I was twelve!" shit just boils to people being uncomfortable when PoC or LGBTQ+ people actually openly talk about themselves and are out and about, instead of it being kept to the margins (Wildstorm booke, Todd making small appearances in the background) and barely ever addressed because it wasn't that acceptable unless you were a third string D-list character that was safe to be a gay token character. It's also a case of waaaah it was better when I was too young to care about identity politics and could accept things as they are instead of what internet forums tell me to think purely due to political lines.

      >then it actually evolves into a romantic thing was great for the characters than just "I'M OUT NOW, NO BUILD UP OR SERIOUS SELF REALIZATION, LETS MAKE OUT."

Barely anyone was built up as gay and then it organically evolved in a romantic subplot that outed them. At best a writer could hint at someone being gay and that was it until a third party outs them on purpose. Remember when Northstar went I AM GAAAAAAAYYYYYY while beating up a bad guy, and iirc the plot involved a dumpster baby who had AIDS and who Northstar then adopted? Pinnacle of subtle writing.

        Anonymous

I don't know this Northstar character at all I think you're projecting your past homophobic life into me and my post. I've like comics and manga that have better fleshed out queers and I think that perhaps the climate at the time these stories where made help writers avoid pussy footing the reality of queer struggle in a predominantly cis hetro world. Current comics like to pretend that isn't the case at all, they seem like fantasy Twitter delusions that are overly leftist with zero grit or real idea of how people just are.

Because gays are self absorbent and will jack off to their egos every chance they get. They can't create anything unique and will destroy an established property so they can attempt to convince people they're just as normal as heterosexuals are. gays make up a bit below 2% of the world population and yet they're overrepresented in media because a investment group called Blackrock have enough funding to fund multiple hollywood movie projects but only if they shove gay shit in their movies like propaganda. Which is why we seen a rise (and the rise of the 50%) of troons deluding themselves into thinking they're special because a cartoon character told them they are.

TL;DR: gays and the entire lgbt homosexualry need to get the gas.

I think this is a spurious argument because a business has zero reason to market to an audience that they don't think will be profitable or that said marketing might cost them other customers. I don't hate current Jon because he's bi, I hate him because he's an adult. I want Kid Jon back. And Supersons sold better than anything with adult Jon has.

would unironically buy a gay Bruce and Clark comic where they have a comfy domestic life while crime fighting. will never happen though

the best youll get is hatefrick romance from bruce and the joker. bruce gets the children and joker bashes their brains in then they hate frick.

The correct gay ships would sell like crazy. Just take the most popular gay ships and canonize them. Because that way you already have a huge following.

I prefer several f/f ships and m/m ships I enjoy to remain non-canon because I think official works would just frick them up as opposed to fanfic/fanart.
