Watchmen
Superman: Secret Identity
Green Lantern Rebirth (2004 Run, not the reboot)
Devilman Crybaby
Fire Punch
Chainsawman
Berserk
Shingeki no Kyojin (prior to the last arc)
Invincible
Gantz
I don't read a lot of comics, but these are the ones that stuck out to me.
>wasn't the 90s animated series good adaptation
Yes, but that's long form storytelling.
And Spawn's story is all about the long struggle. It's not about catching bank robbers or stopping Dr Doom's latest plan to ruin everyone's day. So it's harder to ship Spawn into a 90min movie than it is for most cape shit.
The comics have their ups and downs. The beginning is fairly mediocre, then they become good, then they become mid again and so on.
There's been a lot of people who have written on Spawn, including Neil Gaiman, Frank Miller and Alan Moore. But most of the better issues were made by comparatively lesser known writers.
Cinemaphile recommended me some miniseries from Spawn where the art is all foggy and dark, but I haven't read them yet
You're probably referring to Hellspawn by Ashley Wood. I did enjoy pic related and some of the Medieval Spawn stuff but it's more of a fantasy setting obviously. The HBO show did modern Spawn the best because it removes a lot of the filler from the books while also not being as censored as the book (it was primarily aimed at teen readers during the early years)
The traditional God in the Spawn universe is the Demiurge and the angels are just a different breed of buttholes similar to the demons. The real God steps in at some point and helps Al Simmons trap "God" and Satan in their own pocket dimension where they could fight forever.
fricking this.
even when I was too old to play with them, I still had to have mcfarlanes shit because there was just nothing on par with the quality of those figures.
the build quality was kinda meh but the price was reasonable and the detail was unmatched.
ANY movie can be made from ANY source material and end up being good. this is entirely 100% possible. the issues that often prevent this are usually the people in charge of production and money not wanting to take creative risks and chances. that doesn't mean if you have a project that is self-financed or have backers that will fully support a creative vision that it will end up being good either, because the ideas themselves have to be good on their own merit, and then you have worry about executing those ideas competently.
the first spawn was a pretty good film. obvious glaring flaws, but the end product was something that many people ended up enjoying and still do.
the characters are cool. the aesthetic is cool. the concept is cool. it has a black protog so that obviously means it would have no problem getting proper funding or run into woke problems. it's just an inherently violent and R-rated property so that makes it difficult to navigate in the current landscape
This might be a really stupid idea but I'm giving it a shot. You make a crime.horror, thriller from the criminals perspective with Spawn as the monster. It would be kind of like Abigail or Don't Breathe where they are clearly doing something wrong but get in over their heads. Through the course of the movie they (and the audience) learn the backstory of the monster attacking them while dying horrible deaths along the way.
Cast Michael Peñis as comedy relief and when Spawn goes to kill him make him say "Eiy jus wanna see my kee's mayng...". Then make that a key part of the trailer that gets repeated over and over in all promotional material.
As far as I know that's the approach McFarlane himself wants for the upcoming movie but it keeps getting delayed and has been in development hell for over 20 years now.
Last I checked, the script he wrote is being re-written by the guy who wrote the Joaquin Phoenix Joker script. COVID, the actors strike and Jeremy Renner (who is playing Twitch) getting his dick ran over didn't help speed up the process either.
>and Jeremy Renner (who is playing Twitch) getting his dick ran over
Didn't Jamie Foxx have a stroke too? This entire production is cursed, the universe simply doesn't want the movie to be made.
Spawn to me has always been a character with lots of potential but was continually fricked by ineptness and poor writing. People say the comics are fun and sure they are, but so are most comics. Even the other comics at image at the time were fun. But Spawn could have been so much more. His design and premise are unique, and the art of his early work is gorgeous. If a decent writer like Gaiman or even anyone else but Todd came on, he could have been as big as Spiderman. But alas, that was not to be, and now he's just a more remembered relic of his era. At least he is still remembered then Widcats,Youngblood, and Gen 13
Might be better as a big budget television show because it has a pretty drawn out origin story. That’s one of the things sort notable about that series. It’s not “bit by a radioactive spider…super powers!” It’s like live a complex and ultimately unethical life, go to Hell, get powers at a cost, break away from Hell, learn those powers which are complicated, encounter a bunch of mysterious factions, and on and on…A movie can’t do it justice. Give me 10 episodes and I could put it together.
I’m wondering the same for the comics
the comic is good, cope
name one comic better than spawn
Literally anything
Like?…
Preacher
The spawn movie and animated show was better than the show they made from that comic.

Bazooka Joe comic that comes with the gum.

The one with John Leguizamo was not that bad. But just enjoy the HBO series, you won't get a better movie than that.
Is there anything good with spawn other than the show?
Nope
Cinemaphile recommended me some miniseries from Spawn where the art is all foggy and dark, but I haven't read them yet

>medieval spawn
my homie
I'd love a movie or shown based on john of york but todd hasn't even made a proper spawn reboot for 20+ years
I heard the new Rat City spinoff is good but I haven't read it yet. It's supposed to be the Spawn equivalent of Batman Beyond/Spider-Man 2099.
He fights angels (normal human looking) that was cool
The traditional God in the Spawn universe is the Demiurge and the angels are just a different breed of buttholes similar to the demons. The real God steps in at some point and helps Al Simmons trap "God" and Satan in their own pocket dimension where they could fight forever.
The action figures. They were a big part of my childhood, I didn't even know there was a comic or show until I was much older
fricking this.
even when I was too old to play with them, I still had to have mcfarlanes shit because there was just nothing on par with the quality of those figures.

Curse of the Spawn is pretty good. It's written by the guy who wrote the Spawn movie and later Wrong Turn.
Director: Sam Raimi or Peter Jackson
I've got this spawn #1 stowed away somewhere.
What's it worth?
One, maybe two dollars
No, it’s extremely common
first scenes the director showed to producers were so good so they increased the budget, idk what happened after
Jamie Foxx got replaced with a demon

where is the helmet transformation of matt leblanc in lost in space? More webms especially of the redhead.
Base the movie on Jim Downing Spawn or Gun Slinger
The Spawn movie with Michael Jai White was based as hell, though.
Spawn should have been played by the guy who played blade.

Any other image characters from the 90s that could be made into a TV show or film?
That weird BDSM Wizard of Oz line could be a tv show.

I did not know it was so complicated
