The law had some good ideas, but what's different is that it specifically gave parents the resources to take the school to court and have them investigated if the kid learns the word "gay" at school. All that long education hours do is burn kids out and prevent them from actually having life experience. In my job I've had to deal with kids fresh out of fricking COLLEGE and they're useless at the most basic life skills, like calling a business and having a professional conversation. It's clear to me that the focus on keeping kids locked up in schools 24/7 for 15+ years of their life does nothing but stunt their development in every aspect of life.
To be fair, school would still have to be fairly long in order to prep kids on whatever subjects they're learning. But with that said, there definitely needs to be a restructuring not only to what kids learn and when, but for how long, and of course things like more options for them to learn the shit that they're interested in. Most kids are able to figure out a vague idea of their future career by the time they're entering middle school, so as long as they've got the basic and maybe a few advance things learned by the end of elementary, then middle and high school should just be like pre-college situation where kids just focus on the shit that will be necessary to prep them for the stuff colleges will be throwing their way in relation to the chosen career.
No, that's also where the doctors and engineers come from too. Not to give too much credit to the shitty American public education system, even given that public education is a punishment zone for poorer families and misbehaving kids, it's still that all that time pouring the education that gives them a chance to be among the few who grow up to use 90% of what is taught. The better solution is to give high school kids the option to make senior year a sort of trade school year, but that would be expensive.
I'd say 10-12 would be the time to let kids focus on subjects necessary to get into a college and ready them for whatever career path they're looking for, as well as making sure they have the option to also start some kind of work experience. God knows it can be a b***h to land work after high school even when you go for some of the bottom of the barrel options, all because "you're not experienced enough", even though you're literally just starting out in the workforce and need to be given experience somewhere in order to have it for later

People could just stop living beyond their means. Everyone always looks back on the good old days of the 50's when a father could support a whole family, but they also spent less money on bullshit.

With the exception of healthcare and education, just about everything is actually cheaper now than it used to be, so then people buy more of it. Houses can be built cheaper than ever, the problem is they make them 2-4 times bigger which makes the price worse. Cars can be built cheaper than ever, so they're made bigger and stuffed full of electronics and pointless extra features to make them more expensive than ever, then people buy one for each driver in the household and replace them with upgraded models before even paying off the loan. People almost eat more meals from restaurants than they do at home these days, which makes food incredibly expensive.
You can still afford to raise a family on one income, you just have to stop consooming like a moron.

I live in a rust belt area and it's actually kind of fascinating how you can see the progression of house sizes over time just by looking at different neighborhoods. There are the neighborhoods close to downtown which were built in the 40s and 50s where the biggest houses are 2000 sq ft, then you get out to the ones from the 80s and 90s where 2000 sq ft becomes the average houses, then you go further out into the 21st century constructions where 2000 sq ft are the smallest houses if they even go that small at all.
The vast majority of people with families here live in houses, though, most people see apartment living as a poor investment and a bad way to raise kids. All the apartment buildings I've lived in have been mostly devoid of children.

It's just all the consooming piling up in a big snowball effect. It's not impossible to live cheaply, people just don't want to give up even a shred of convenience.
Kids spend too much time in school because it's loaded with too much bullshit and the lessons are designed to go too slowly. The concept of spending 6-8 hours at school every single day with homework on top of that is fricking absurd. School shouldn't be the entirety of a kid's life.

Yea, can't argue with that. While this could be a good sequel, there's no denying it'll still take away some of what made the original so special, especially since they can't exactly pull the same "how much of this is really happening?" like last time.
