It balanced funny and lore the best out of any loreshit. Amphibia couldn't into lore to save its life, Owl House couldn't into funny to save its life.

the loreshit was for the most part planned from the beginning, so it was cohesive and meshed well with the whole series

with shows like adventure time and star vs its clear the series intended to start out as just fun silly adventures and at some point the writers went "ok we need to make this more serious....."

yeah Gravity Falls' whole premise is built around the characters unraveling a deeper mystery, these elements were not just suddenly tacked on in season three

Star Vs. plot is pretty cohesive up until Toffee's death, I feel like the series was planned up to that point and after that it went freeform
some aspects were teased early on like Ms. Heinous secretly being a royal, but I'm not so sure they had a hard set plan for her other than that

You know weirdly enough Heinous's entire arc from the 1st 3 seasons of Star Vs is completely unintentionally well written and to this day I am still convinced that was never the intention

If you look at the story of Heinous being driven to madness by the Royal Authority and her wanting to absorb the souls of all the other princesses of Mewnii as a means of revenge for being told to rot and die at St Olga, the very institution she took over after being forced to stay there by her foster father its actually a really sad story

Its made even sadder when once her plan fails she is left with no other option then to embrace her monster form and use it as a means of proving Star's family right that not every monster is worthy of being seen in a positive light despite Eclipsa bending over the magical realm backwards wanting to promote equality to the point of it just being moronic

Heinous hit the lowest point of her life to where she stopped thinking rationally. She wanted power but underneath that plan was just her screaming at anyone who can hear her just to tell the world how she's unhappy and how did Eclipsa respond to this? By killing her.

Then reincarnating her with no memory of all her pain. Its the most fricked up thing i've ever watched.

yeah the biggest part that makes me feel like Heinous/Meteora's arc wasn't planned was the fact that she somehow had never pieced together that she was a royal
that she never noticed that the queen and princess have the same kind of markings as her, that feels like too much of an oversight

it would make way more sense if it was something she was aware of but was intentionally hiding

I wanna believe that Shastacan knew his position as king of Mewnii would be in jeopardy if it was revealed that the actual king of Mewnii was Globgor who didnt even want the position and optically would look bad for the kingdom since up until Eclipsa was about to get her turn everyone in Star's extended family was extremely racist towards monsters...which is stupid because Star's kingdom isnt the other kingdom in Mewnii and a lot of the Kingdom's adjacent to it have creatures that can be classified as monsters because what is the difference between Pony Head and Toffee. They're magical non humanoids

Which creates even more stupid problems because The Mewniians are half insect people which would mean THEYRE MONSTERS TOO

I think it's hilarious that they revealed the mewmans were actually the invaders who usurped the monsters' land
at first you think oh it's a european colonizer thing, except no, the civilization they supplanted was superior. this is an immigrants-invading-first-world-countries thing. probably not intentionally, but in hindsight it's inescapable.

didn't keep up with the show in ages, the monster kingdom was superior ?

Star vs's first season was just funny episodic stuff like the comic Nefcy based it on

well that, plus they never knew how much more the network was gonna give them. no point in planning out ahead of that, and writers kept leaving over time, so plans couldn't be long-term.

I know people shit on the back half of season 2. I didn’t like it either, but as a complete series it’s still a great hit to miss ratio. The post-show ARG, though a complete shitshow, was so fun it kind of washed the bad taste of the finale out of my mouth too. Compared to what came after it, it’s odd to treat it as anything other than one of the most ambitious kid cartoons.

As much as it pissed people off, two seasons constrains you enough to where you have to figure out how to land the ending without getting too navelgazey or getting overloaded with ideas and concepts you want to do but can't fit in naturally. SVTFOE, for example, fumbled after its second season

I was honestly content with Eclipsa just vaporizing her daughter to ashes and then needing to live with the fact how she committed infanticide. This witch who was called a horrible person by everyone in the Kingdom of Mewnii doing the 1st objectively awful thing in her life and she has every right to be sad and outraged about it because it involved killing her daughter

Then S4 goes and omits ALL of that. If they just ended it there it would have been fine because Mina, while having her fans, not the time to be doing a story like this right now. My opinions of Mina showing up at the same as when Kuriva shows up at the end of S3

Mother fricker Korra is in a damn Wheel Chair and most of the Red Lotus are dead. We need to reflect.
