>good writer
There's the problem. He isn't a good writer and his changes suck.
His Superman run is so bad that you can't make an actual functioning reading order out of it.
I don't think the Bendis run is entirely shit. It honestly had some good ideas like getting rid of the Clark Kent secret identity but everything comes off as half baked. Like a writer changing to make as much change as possible with his new appointed position of power.
What is the point of the secret identity anymore like genuinely. He's been married to Lois for decades and lives nice life. He has no need for it anymore. It's not like he couldn't have Daily Planet adventures anymore either.
>What is the point of the secret identity anymore like genuinely.
Two main reasons:
1. In theory it's to protect his loved ones but that makes more sense for someone like Spider-Man who isn't at Superman's level. Superman could easily protect his people from anything no matter where he was.
2. To be able to lead a normal human life outside of being Superman, which is actually a good reason. Remember he's a man first and Superman second, he doesn't want to be this icon all the time.
>It's not like he couldn't have Daily Planet adventures anymore either.
There's no way Superman could be a normal reporter and couldn't just hang around the Daily Planet without causing a constant commotion.
Superman needs to be Clark to be able to live the normal life he wants.
>What is the point of the secret identity anymore like genuinely
It makes the character far more interesting. Audiences love secret identities, because they allow you to juxtapose the high-flying heroics with compelling and relatable personal drama. Superman having a clear delineation between his Superman life and his Clark life makes it possible to have scenes where people are just talking to Clark Kent, not Superman, and that's a great thing for keeping the character grounded and relatable.
Even if you want to look at things from a more classic Golden/Silver Age POV where Superman is the core personality and Clark is basically just a disguise, it makes the stories more fun because you can do a lot of comedy or ironic drama with the secret identity.
Only problem is suspension of disbelief is to much and these characters going off unbelievable excuses why they aren't figured out easily is tiring at best. Plus for Superman, Clark acts like the alien godman when he lives like a normal man with all his sense primed for optimal effect without resorting to being a casual person that might miss a movie or date and of course the fact Clark is capable of handling everything as a plot device at once while characters like Peter Parker and Bruce Wayne struggle constantly. Time has moved on from being amused by a 6 ft tall muscle man that looks dorky but can hide himself for fun. That's why the secret identity is basically done with most superheroes.

Yes as Clark. Not Superman

Clark Kent and Superboy died the day the Kents did. Yes Clark and Kal-El are his names but Superman is who he really is. There's no need for a disguise anymore after he gets married to Lois because then it just adds more dumb complications like Lois having to cover for him at work.

Clark Kent is the disguise moron. He pretends to be more feeble and pathetic. He only uses it so he could retain some form of human connection/ get scoops on crimes. If he's married to Lois and is existing alongside the JL there's zero reason for him to need it anymore. He has that perfect life he's wanted since he was a kid.

No he want's a life where he doesn't have to feel isolated from the world anymore. Yes there is stress from being a superhero but it's not like he doesn't enjoy helping people. He doesn't need a secret identity to have a connection to other people. He has friends and family now who understand him on a deeper level more then anyone else ever will by keeping up the bumbling Clark Kent disguise.

It marks his transitions from boy to man. He's now completely alienated from the world both as the orphaned Kal-El and the orphaned Clark Kent. I beg you to actually read some pre crisis Superman stuff.
>honestly had some good ideas like getting rid of the Clark Kent secret identity
You do realize they had done EXACTLY this to Superbro right in the last two years of the New 52? They even depowered him, which also wasn't a new idea.
Good ideas tend to be ideas which are (a) either NEW or unique, or (b) aren't necessarily new but are well executed or uniquely executed.
None of the latter is applicable to this entire run.
He forgets the timeline of the comics that he's writing and constantly has both comics go through lengthy arcs with zero breakpoints that are supposed to be taking place at the same time.

That's like the one thing DC decided to walk back on, because turns out a major part of the Daily Planet drama and cast hinge on the fact that not everyone knows that Clark is Superman.

>Hey everyone, sure is great to not have to worry about a secret identity anymore! How's it going? Want to go out and do some adventures?
>Hey Clark, yeah, sorry, I really need to finish this story draft before 3 o'clock and then we have some meetings to get through and then I gotta do some revisions before we send to the printer. I could meet you around 8:30 I guess?
>Oh...uh...sure, sure, that's fine. I'll see you then, guess I'll just go out on patrol for a while...
When was he a good writer?
i remember him being pretty good in the late 90's early 2000's
it does feel like he's a completely different writer now
>i remember him being pretty good in the late 90's early 2000's
You remember bologna. Even at his BEST he was a plodding decompressed hack.
nope

Not any time in the last 20 years is this true
even that's generous

This is why you're a midwit
You're the fricking midtwit who can't comprehend the idea of a change that makes sense.

You're too far gone. I'm afraid that there's no helping you.

Genuinely humanity.
Different character. There's zero point to Clark keeping up the secret identity thing because he's already at his happiest when he's with Lois.
but he still likes living a normal life

Almost no one on nuCinemaphile is old enough to remember when Bendis was good so you're going to get a lot of dumb zoomy replies.
OP is implying he was still a good writer when DC hired him, which he wasn't
>muh nostalgia glasses means this hack was actually a good writer at some point
Can’t believe he ruined my goat
>Beyonder is just a silly inhuman
This was such a bizarre retcon
Wait, what? Is this pre-Hickman Secret Wars?
LONG before, this is pre-Civil War
well thats weird they decided to make beyonder inhuman because i thought it was during inhuman push to change him into "mutant" for the MCU era
>they
it was just Bendis doing whatever random bullshit that crossed his mind because no one was telling him "no" at the time
Lmfao, I cant think of a book or change that he made there that actually had any sort of positive reception.
Even his OC donut steel Naomi flopped.
He really showed up to DC. Fricked up everything, lowered sales, took a million dollar paycheck then left.
Say what you will about Bendis but that is some legendary shit.
he didnt. he was always shit and people just finally started noticing.
I thought that said Benoit is coming.
Bendis is an idea man. He should never be allowed to write those ideas out by himself.
How does Bendis get away by releasing such dogshit
he didn't Geoff Johns fricked up DC Continuity around him
Bendis has proven time and again that he is pretty decent at street level and noir stuff and completely incompetent at teams or high powered heroes.
No he hasn’t his daredevil was fricking terrible. Never understood this meme
I'm starting to think that since the 00s there's people trying to shill for Bendis
Bendis is a CIA op who ruins capekino for his deep state masters
That's Tom king tho
>benis
>good anything
