They are not in the business of making art. They are in the business of making consumable content that should reach as many demographics as possible. They already fricking know they have us just because of the main character and our autistic nostalgia; so they throw in Lil Leia for the women and Darth Sheboon for the blacks. These shows are not made at all with long time fans in mind, they're made to check demographic shilling boxes which ironically leads to no one being happy.

I guarantee there's a 35 year old woman out there who watched Obi Wan and thought to herself "This Lil Leia stuff is so adorable, but I don't like the laser sword fighting or the smelly hobo man".

      ?t=469
Marker 7:49 if the link screws-up
Lightsaber battles should be about MORE than fighting when major characters are involved
No one thinks this way anymore
This is why Star Wars will continue to fail
      AND THEY KEEP DOING IT
(Like Vader can start the fire cubes but then can't put them out to get Obi-Wan, the only Jedi left he cares to find?)

I don't think it's a big deal to say the episode 4 duel sucks because the coreography is bad. It has great buildup, sure, but if the actual fight is bad then that is a mark against it. The return of the jedi fight, revenge of the sith anakin vs obi wan fight, and even the empire fight all found a good balance.

          Anonymous

          No no no
The problem is that there is no weight to the issues anymore
Star Wars: ANH 1977 has the first duel we see in which Obi-Wan and Vader talk about Luke and the darkside etc.
          The fighting duel is ancillary
The duel in ROTJ 1983 is Luke talking to Vader to remind him that there is still good in him whilst being jeered by the Emperor
Luke stops when he sees the "Double-Edged" nature of his hatred and how he could easily be swayed like his father Vader to the darkside
Luke then quits and tosses his lightsaber in an act of defiance
          >Kill me then
          That's all weighty stuff

The last episode of Obi-Wan TV show is blatant SHIT
          Just awful!!!
          The fight means nothing
          Obi-Wan easily escapes
It's like the writers forget that The Force is used across the Galaxy, then it can't be used 5-feet from the characters
          >Where'd he go? That Obi-Wan
Shit, FFS they had Rey and Chunderfrick boy using the Force to communicate through lightyears of distance
It's all so shit and bears no weight
The writers do it for fan service and damn the consequences

Mando is Jon Favreau's baby and calls the shots. The majority of Mando is written by Favreau. Unironically Deborah Chow has directed some Mando episodes but her work on Obi Wan is far inferior. Even Filoni's Mando stuff is pretty good. KK seems to be the variable where things go to shit. Mando is not the greatest thing ever but it's good honest fun and I respect that.

why isn’t he using 2 hands

      Anonymous

I vaguely recall reading some explanation that Vader's style is just one-handed battering, STR to the max.
I think this was backwritten in to explain why he does it in the originals, but I think that was just because he was easily dominating and outclassing Luke. But in standard 'it happened once so this singular example is how everything to do with that one event / person / race must always be' that's now how he is supposed to most commonly fight.
To be fair they show he winds up a force push with his other.

        Anonymous

Correct. Basically because he lost his limbs he lost alot of his agility so he had to adapt into a front-focused barrage of hacks and chops.

that anon is pointing out that its stupid and hacky and youre agreeing with him like youre both praising it. youre so clueless and up youre own ass im starting to believe you must be a "writer" on the show or something

Makes no sense at all. In the ot he was agile and had lots of finesse at times. Also, he would get the agility from the force

      >why isn’t he using 2 hands
he has powerful robot arms and he likes to emote his force-attacks using hand gesture(choke, push, etc)

      >why isn’t he using 2 hands
When has Vader not been a mainly one handed Lightsaber user? He rarely uses both hands when fighting. He doesn't need to, as he has insane physical strength from being a cyborg.

Most of the people on Cinemaphile don't care about Star Wars, know nothing about it, and basically just parrot popular Youtuber opinions on it. And "criticisms" like this and all of the morons whining about "women directing" or something basically prove it.

          >youre an idiot telling at clouds and your attitude is why star wars is shit and will always be shit for now on.
Yes, because not being constantly negative about Star Wars and shitting on the good and the bad, because you can't tell the difference, is totally a good thing. None of you homosexuals had a problem with Deborah Chow back when she made a lot of the more based episodes of The Mandalorian, you guys only hate on it now because your Youtube thought masters told you to be joyless contrarians. I bet you watch Star Trek Discovery, too.

Vader basically had to rearrange his skill and tool sets due to the limitations of his cybernetics. One example being Vader disarming and controlling the fight, similar to Dooku in Episode 2.

He also went with a quicker, more brutal fighting style, with lots of ambushes and telekinetic thrown in to overwhelm his opponent.

Vader definitely learnt from his mistakes as Anakin, making him into a much more dangerous opponent, which the Kenobi show fails to display.

              Anonymous

              >which the Kenobi show fails to display.
I disagree. He showed he was smarter in this show. He was being cautious when fighting Obi-Wan, because the last time he fought him, he ended up an asthmatic cripple by being a moron. So, he started out slowly, gauging his oppenent to see if he had gotten stronger or weaker, and then went on the attack. It was on par with OT Lightsaber fights, in terms of pacing.

i havent seen a single nu-wars related piece of media and have no fricking idea who ching chow is. you just sound like a ranting hysterical women who read a wiki page on vader and larp as a lore master. vader is a dumb non-consistent character and so is everything starwars related now. him using one hand was fine in the ot because he was gimped and a rageaholic and strong and just hammered shit and they hadnt thought up all these moronic space kungfu lightsaber forms of combat yet

vader using one hand after all the moronic seizure inducing fights in the prequels and cartoons and shit looks silly though to zoomies. especially after the yoda and shmee flipping and whatnot. it obviously begs the question. why can a ten armed 99% robot like grievous flip around and fight like a spastic monkey but vader cant?

anyway, its a dumb thing to nitpit about when literally everything is floating in an ocean of piss already

              >"Stop liking what I don't like!"
So, in other words, you are not, and never have been, an actual fan of Star Wars. Okay, that's good to know that I don't need to waste my time with an illiterate contrarian cuck.
              >vader using one hand after all the moronic seizure inducing fights in the prequels and cartoons and shit looks silly though to zoomies.
If you think it's moronic, why are you b***hing about it? Zoomies are morons who can't grasp the reasons for differences between the original and prequel trilogies, such as simple technological and funding differences.
              >especially after the yoda and shmee flipping and whatnot.

It was a moronic idea from the get go. The show should have been about Obi Wan surviving on tattooine and protecting the Lars family from some small time thread like a single inquisitor or a bounty hunter snooping around.

What annoys me the most is that this shit has the exact same feeling of The Witcher show, where the creators obviously had no desire to make an Obi Wan show, so they just forced all the gay shit they wanted in it while shoving the character people actually care about to the side.

        >when obi first sees him and has a face to face he then runs away to the side like a joke comedy sketch
They were trying to copy the horror aspect of Vader's appearance at the end of Rogue One. The running away, use of the camera, lightsaber-based lighting, darkness, Vader's ambush, etc. is all reminiscent of slasher films.

Its crazy how hard Vader has power creeped since Disney has taken over. They love to portray him as an unstoppable rage filled terminator when I just never viewed his power level as being that high in the prequels or OT.

            Anonymous

He's a beaten down old man by the OT. Only a villain in ANH and 100% on Luke's side in ESB.

Exactly, he got btfo by a lesbian in the Vader comics that people seem to praise about.

He's pretty fricking intimidating in Empire. Sure, Luke is basically untrained, but Vader manhandles the frick out of him with one hand and is toying with him the entire time. Then at the end when he gets serious he brutally disarms like within a couple of seconds.

The only good thing Disney has done since they took over. Always hated how in nearly half the stories he appeared in in the EU, Vader would get a limb or two chopped off. Even the jobber Maul was fricking him up.

It's really shit. A probe sees Obi Wan, then Vader goes down and investigates. They kind of run into each other out of nowhere and Kenobi runs away really quick (I literally thought this was a vision or something because of how bad it is). They fight briefly and Vader is the obvious victor. The fight is barely choreographed at all, it was really bad. Vader burns Obi Wan over some fiery coals for a bit until a brand new never heard of woman character shoots some explosive tank and she uses a droid to get Obi Wan away from Vader. This is the second time this episode that Obi Wan was a dead man if it weren't for Lucius Varenus's wife saving him

        >A probe sees Obi Wan
I hate this shit. Probe droids are long range reconnaissance assets for the military. Hunting Jedi would be a job for spies and agents on the ground. Throwing in a probe droid because there was one in Empire Strikes Back is a cheap attempt at 'membering.

        PTSD due to fire
I didn't read it that way
Also, unrelatedly, Vader lives on a FIRE planet with LIQUID MAGMA all the time

It's bad, entire episodes are contrived to get to their endings with strange characters and plots including this one to get to them to meet where they only clash blades for 15 seconds with obi wan running away the rest of the time. Not sith are hunting jedi and kenobi instead of vader because they writer's probably think too much vader is bad and he's like jaws or something. Their costumes also look ridiculous because they copied them from a cartoon.

There is nothing about the events of Kenobi so far that break the dialogue with Vader and Leia.

When Leia sends the message to Obi Wan in new hope, she is saying that she needs him to once again be a soldier as he was in the clone wars. She is guilt tripping him to action for the rebellion -- not only for Leia.

I agree that if ANH was made now, she'd prob say something about her rescue, but I don't think it's necessary for her to mention it.

Also, she might not even know her current rescuer is Obi Wan, she only knows him as Ben -- she might not realize that connection. Obi and Leia also never meet in ANH, so there's no direct way to tell if they've met before.

As for Vader, in ANH he says it's a feeling he's "not felt since...", That only means since last they met which could be any time.

Then later he says "when I left you I was but a learner, now I am the master" -- again, he doesn't say since we last met, he says since I left you, which is when he became Vader in the first place and says nothing on if they met in-between. It implies the relative growth over Obi Wan that he has achieved

I'm sure this isn't exactly what the writers originally intended, but the Kenobi series just changes how those lines hit. It does not make them inconsistent, in fact I think it deepens them perhaps

Because you're a moron and conveniently forgot the first half of the quote.
          >I've been waiting for you, Obi-Wan. We meet again, at last. The circle is now complete.

          Anonymous

"When I left you I was but the learner now I am the master." If he's meeting Obi wan for the first time since Mustafar it makes sense, he's pointing out to Obi wan the new dichotomy. If he's met him before (10 years after he became Vader) then the new dichotomy is already established and the line is redundant and weird when he sees him in episode 4.

Obi Wan is a jedi, so there is no way he would not use The Force for a decade and there is no way that he would be psychologically lost. He is not normal man. He is a warrior sage and a master of a philosophy of inner peace. He was one of the greatest among an entire order of gifted warrior sages and a true hero. You don't understand what a hero is.

and neither do the creatively bankrupt hacks who made this shit. obi-wan would have been communing with qui-gon and yoda thru the force, daily meditating, preparing for the day when the time to train Luke and fight the Empire finally comes. obi-wan would have found resolve through his intense introspective nature and his search for inner peace. this whole israelite notion that failure just utterly destroys people and leaves them waiting to die is absolute nonsense.

The writers at Disney are failing to see why the Mandalorian was succesful.
It took concepts fans wanted to see and expanded upon them, Obi Wan does nothing like that because we know how it's going to end and it takes place on a setting we already know too well.
