The further back you go the better magical and crafting ability they had. Like Gandalfs and Frodos sword from LOTR was forged thousands of years in the past and it's the best they can get because of the dwindling magic of the world
It is possible that they have given him a wife actually (or maybe he's courting somebody) zoom in here in you can see a woman standing next to him while the other elves are kneeling.

But if they make him have a wife then that asks the question why they never had children considering this show starts off during peacetime

Elves are immortal. They're in no hurry to sire children, and the act of birthing one is spiritually draining on the woman.
