>Finn and Dipper never got the girl.
The only real problem with this is not having them explicitly renounce simping after a oneitis. They both had other options. Finn has actually dated other girls and even became a manprostitute for a bit.

And then Flame Princess was born.
Have more male leads going on adventures. Show them as competent while also overcoming their own flaws, instead of making them their foils to your amazing female character. There is no need to make them overly masculine, but don't make them too effeminate either. Finally, keep Fujoshis, cucks and people who have it out for men out of the writers room.
But I bet even that's too hard for Westerners, especially Americans.
The problem isn't competency, the problem is that everyone treats a competent, emotionally resolute male as a matter of course and an incompetent male as a waste of space or even worse, a work in progress that a woman can 'fix'. Like Dipper is a great example, lets acknowledge that saving the world from Bill itself was a big team effort with a lot of cooperation and moving parts, Dipper *explicitly* allows the entire plan to happen by waking his sister and friends from Gideon's dream bubble *explicitly* because his feelings for those people, particularly Wendy, are genuine. More so than their feelings towards him if that's what ultimately allows one to resist the brainwashing.
This maturity is never mentioned or acknowledged, the opposite is true. He's ultimately berated both for having feelings for Wendy, or girls in general in the road trip episode, and for wanting to put some distance between himself and his sister to pursue an internship and take control of his life.
Leading men used to get rewarded with attraction from the girls they pined over for their competence. The resistance to that has overcorrected to the point where if a leading man simply decides to use his competence for his own reasons without considering the needs of others, particularly the women and girls in his life, he needs correcting. Since the leading man is one of if not the most competent person in the room by the end of the story, that correction comes in the form of emotional manipulation.

No. In fact, in one instance he even got his arm back.
Now back to the subject of autism a.k.a. the morbidly self-absorbed. Finn's dejection is irrelevant. He's the only one who can feel it. Rebounding, and finding a new relationship just to feel better, is terribly inconsiderate to the other person (or persons) in a relationship. Reducing people to a means of satisfaction. Be it emotional or mental, like OCD.
Sure, but its ultimately up to the writers to decide when Finn learns his lesson and that's who I'm criticizing. After a certain amount of written self-inflicted misery, you have to assume the writers are acting on something personal.
Provided this thread is serious there are two central problems with male characters that I've noticed that require fixing. The first is how STUPID male characters have become. I can't root for a male character whose personality is that he's fricking stupid. The lack of intellect is also a problem in anime and manga which sadly got popularized by shitty characters like Goku who is indeed stupid. He's stupid because of the head injury he received when he was a baby yes but it doesn't the reality that many male characters are inspired by Goku so they become stupid simply because they are are stupid period. That's the first big problem how stupid male characters have become in general.
The second problem that needs fixing is what purpose will a male character fulfill? Again Goku is a famous example in that despite his power he's a meandering jobless bum who does not provide for his family. And the big problem is a boy who never develops a skill is doomed. Look at Finn from Adventure Time as the series continued the writers removed his capability to the point you wonder what is he good for? Nothing. He's dumb and has no skills. He longs for his death because he misses his dog among everything else in the world. When was the last time a boy matured into a job? Dipper had an opportunity to mature into something like an educated scholar, but did Dipper capitalize on the opportunity? Nah he gave it up to be an idiot servant of his bratty shit sister. I think Ben from Ben 10 was the last time I saw a male character develop a skill set to get a damn job doing something in Ben's case a job similar to his grandfather who was an alien plumber.
To summarize, to fix male characters make them more intelligent and make them actually achieve learning a skill set so that they don't become stupid aimless failure bums.
And make them more masculine as well. No one likes emasculated lamers like Aang, Zuko, and Sokka from Avatar and shut up, Sokka is indeed a b***h boy. He's intimidated by his sister even before she learned water bending and got talked down to a lot by her. The lack of self respect and masculinity in the male characters is honestly revolting.
Give them wacky catchphrases to say during awkward situations.
Finn and Dipper never got the girl. Steven is a giant pussy. Marco and Lincoln are the only positive male role models.

Dipper's 12 he doesn't need to end the show with a love interest

Forget about me for a second. Did 100% of Finn's romantic pursuits ultimately hurt him over the course of 5 seasons or not?
They did.
No. In fact, in one instance he even got his arm back.

I like all these characters, but I also don't have this particular axe to grind.
It's simple. We kill the Batman.
