Try to ignore it as best I can, hope they don't do anything permanent and irreversible, and try to remember the good times.

At least that's what I used to do when I had the free time
Now I just have a clear idea of to what I want the character to see as and if material is too off from my understanding of the character, I just stop reading it or re-imagine the story to suit my sensibilities.
With comic characters? not reading that crap and focusing on what you liked with that character. It's not like continuity matters and if it is at least a B lister, he is bound to reappear again down the line.

I stick to runs instead of following the characters that I like.
Aggressively supporting the writers of any media that depicting my favorite characters accurately or at least greatly written as complex character if they are OOC by commenting and highlighting it. Hopefully the writers or the fans got rallied for their good deeds
